Anquan Boldin looking forward to chance to say goodbye to Ravens fans

Chris Harris, Anquan Boldin AP

For starters and established players, the first week of preseason football is usually about little more than reacquainting yourself with the gameday routine before heading to the sideline to serve as a spectator after 10 or so snaps.

49ers wide receiver Anquan Boldin is planning to do a bit more than that. He’s back in Baltimore for the first time since the Ravens traded him to the 49ers and he’s looking forward to saying thanks and goodbye to Ravens fans after not getting the chance last year because he was out of the country when the trade went through.

“It’ll be a chance to say goodbye to the fans in a proper way,” Boldin said, via the San Jose Mercury News. “I wasn’t afforded that opportunity. I got traded while I was away.”

Boldin’s three-year run in Baltimore saw him catch 181 passes and ended with a Super Bowl title, which likely made it a bit easier for Ravens fans to watch Boldin catch 85 passes for 1,179 yards for San Francisco last season while Baltimore’s offense was scuffling along. It should also make for a nice ovation at some point on Thursday evening.

The Ravens weren’t winning the SB last year with or without Boldin, but I think about what a Ravens team with Anquan Boldin, Steve Smith Sr. And Torrey Smith would look like. Even with Joes 120mil, it could have been possible.

One of the toughest and most underrated receivers in the game today. Huge factor in winning the Super Bowl.

Wishes the Steelers signed him instead of the Ravens, but doesn’t matter now.

One of the toughest and most overrated receivers in the game today. Big factor in winning the Super Bowl but given too much credit, and was invisible for much of the regular season.

Also Boldin is all class. It’ll be good to see him in Baltimore over the next few days.

From a Patriots fan, tough and classy… I’ve liked AB’s game from the beginning of his career. Great player and a difference maker on the field.

The best receiver in the NFL is Calvin Johnson.

In two years, it will be Cordarrelle Patterson.

Compared to the current roster of criminals you may be correct in your assumption. Without him baling out JumpBallJoe that would be no Lombardi.

Boldin has character … not like Steve Smith, who is all about ‘me’.

Well there’s a good chance they may trade Anquan back to the Ravens for a vending machine or some other worthless item.

I think it’s safe to say that Q misses the ravens as much as they miss him. At least in bmore he has a fighting chance to get another ring…

Report comment. Let me finish that for….another ring around the toilet bowl. Don’t forget you still have JumpBallJoe and no Q to bail him out.

i love how people give all the superbowl credit to boldin while conveniently forgetting he was the reason we weren’t there 2 seasons ago

flacco hit him in the freaking chest in the end zone and he straight dropped it when it would have put us up 4 with less then 2 mins to play @Pitt.

im sorry but good man 2 man coverage shuts him down, he doesn’t have the speed to get open on a consistent basis

and despite what people says, he does drop a lot of easy passes

A RayRay dance topped off with a moon shot would be sweet.
