Kenny Vaccaro: Jimmy Graham is faster than last year

Jimmy Graham AP

Saints tight end Jimmy Graham didn’t take part in the team’s offseason work this year because of his contract situation, but one of the teammates tasked with stopping him in practice says that the time away from the team didn’t slow the tight end down.

In fact, the opposite appears to be true. Safety Kenny Vaccaro is finding it even harder to match up with Graham this summer than it was while Graham was on his way to 86 catches, 1,215 yards and 16 touchdowns last season.

“The dude’s flying. He’s faster than last year, he seems stronger,” Vaccaro said, via ESPN.com.

Graham didn’t need to get any faster or stronger in order to pile up huge numbers in the New Orleans offense and last year’s production came despite a nagging foot injury that limited him at points last season. Vaccaro’s take suggests that isn’t an issue for Graham any longer, leaving one to wonder what kind of performance he’ll put up if the rest of the league’s defenders find it as hard to stay with Graham as Vaccaro has found it this summer.

Or maybe Kenny’s a little slower coming off that busted stick he ended last year with.

  2. floratiotime says: Aug 7, 2014 11:28 AM

Sure he is. People always get faster as they get older. Who makes this stuff up ?

  3. pantfan89 says: Aug 7, 2014 11:30 AM

Maybe your broken leg just made you slower, a thought to ponder Kenny.

  4. buhbay1c says: Aug 7, 2014 11:31 AM

Guy has obviously been working hard, yet the Saints still tried to low ball him.

  5. thepftpoet says: Aug 7, 2014 11:35 AM

    Kenny Vaccaro is very overrated.

Harrison Smith is the best Safety in the NFL

Give the Minnesota Vikings our deserved Lombardi Trophy in 2009.

He can be as fast as a jet the cheater Saints ain’t going no where unless they plan to set another bounty again. No one fears the cheaters.

Graham is big, physical, fast receiver not a tight end. He doesn’t block and teams had a lot more success with him when they matched a big corner or faster safety who excelled in coverage. That is where defenses are headed because there will be more Graham’s coming into the NFL.

    Poor mans Kyle Rudolph

  13. ilovefoolsball says: Aug 7, 2014 11:50 AM

The player is going to decimate defenses this season. This can be said with 100% certainty.

  14. bigbenh8tr says: Aug 7, 2014 11:54 AM

Never heard of Harrison Smith and I have Sunday ticket. Then again I can only name 5 Vikings starters and Vaccaro is the only guy on defense bc I wish my team drafted him

Yet still a soft, non blocking tight end; total team player.

All the lil’ shehawk fans are coming out to play and talk smack. Enjoy your time in the sun because it will end soon. hawks are very lucky they don’t play us this year but maybe we’ll see you in the Dome in the playoffs-if you make it that far.

  18. boisestatewhodat says: Aug 7, 2014 12:03 PM

‘Why do you even ponder passing’!

Don’t they use a CB to cover wide-receivers in practice?

  26. RegisHawk says: Aug 7, 2014 12:17 PM

He set a record running off the field when the play called for a blocking Tight End

  27. sb44champs says: Aug 7, 2014 12:29 PM

No PI or PEDs this year Hawks…. How will they win?

  28. flannlv says: Aug 7, 2014 12:31 PM

Keep chirping. Graham played most of the season with a Plantar Fascia injury, you know the same injury that sidelines every other player. There is little doubt JG is faster than last year. That’s why all the criticism is funny, you’re all climbing over each other trying to draft him in your fantasy leagues.

  29. floratiotime says: Aug 7, 2014 12:33 PM

I don’t recall all these Seahawks fans being around a couple years ago.

  30. 49erfan44 says: Aug 7, 2014 12:35 PM

That should really improve his weakness, speed is so big in blocking.

  31. calhounlambeau says: Aug 7, 2014 12:38 PM

Of course he’s been chasing money all off-season.

  32. willnit says: Aug 7, 2014 12:41 PM

Its not Lynch anymore, its Marshawn Lunch cause Junior Galette is gonna eat that up all day. That is if y’all even make it that far. Seattle=One Hit Wonders who got gift wrapped a NFC Title victory against San Fran by the refs.

  37. saints12013 says: Aug 7, 2014 1:37 PM

Wowww there’s more Seahawk fans commenting on a Saints story than Saints fans. Looks like there are a lot of frightened Seattle fans out there. They know they won’t represent the NFC this season.

  38. surfinbird1 says: Aug 7, 2014 1:46 PM

If he has to face Talib again, he’s gonna soil himself.

  39. chalkruz1989 says: Aug 7, 2014 1:50 PM

Defenses should be watching the tape when Aqib Talib went one-on-one with Jimmy Graham.

  40. sb44champs says: Aug 7, 2014 2:02 PM

Yep, all these posters making fun of Jimmy will be the first ones drafting him in fantasy leagues lol

  41. sb44champs says: Aug 7, 2014 2:09 PM

I just wish the Saints actually played the Hawks at home in the dome but the Hawks will probably not make the playoffs as the NFL is cracking down on cheating..

  42. sb44champs says: Aug 7, 2014 2:13 PM

Thats right, Talib kept hitting Graham before the ball arrived but the refs let it slide so their golden boy Brady could win the game at the last second with their OTackle having our DE in a headlock….

Saints are going to win the Super Bowl this season boyz and girlz! So shall it be written, so shall it be done! Geaux Saints!

  45. saints12013 says: Aug 7, 2014 2:33 PM

AMEN to that, I was at that Patriots game and we got robbed especially on the Malcolm Jenkins hit which resulted in a fine that got rescinded cause the NFL knew they got that one wrong. Same thing happened against the Shehawks when Bush knocked Percy out, another fine that got rescinded.

  46. chad504boy says: Aug 7, 2014 2:47 PM

Was harder to block And run w his foot injury last year. Jimmy will be in monster form again with Cooks killing it all over as well

  47. RegisHawk says: Aug 7, 2014 2:54 PM

I just wish the Saints were playing the Seahawks this year, but the Saints aren’t likely to make the playoffs, so there’s no chance of that.

  48. antalicus says: Aug 7, 2014 3:14 PM

Graham was gimp last year… of course he would be faster this year.

  49. 12dat says: Aug 7, 2014 4:01 PM

Where were all these Seahawk fans 2 years ago? We’ve been here. Check out our streak of home sellouts, making the playoffs 7 of the last 10 years, etc etc. I mean, Saints fans HAVE to remember Beast Quake from 2010, right?

  50. BigAlHeBDMan says: Aug 7, 2014 4:07 PM

Oh yes, and the vikes also forgot about the big rematch at the beginning of the 2010 season. That one also was won by The New Orleans Saints.

  51. madddogg365 says: Aug 7, 2014 5:25 PM

Saints will surprise Vikings & Seahawk fans. Vikings…no surprise there. lol

  52. jpspear says: Aug 7, 2014 10:28 PM

We remember Lynch’s run. The stench of losing to the worst garbage to ever make the playoffs will be a blot on the franchise for years.

He didn’t get there buy being soft and overrated, he got there his hard work and determination. He doesn’t wast his time with haters. Watch all of ya eat those words next season.

  56. madddogg365 says: Aug 8, 2014 3:37 PM

The Seahawks have a less likely chance to make the playoffs than the Saints. Seahawks lost 6 key players, maybe 8. Saints have lost but made upgrades. We will see if Sherman get’s away w/his defensive holding like last season. Check the game films.
