Marvin Lewis talks up first-round pick Darqueze Dennard

darquezelewis AP

The Bengals are listing rookie cornerback Darqueze Dennard as a third-stringer on their depth chart, but make no mistake: Coach Marvin Lewis is expecting big things from Dennard this season.

In fact, Lewis says he’s never seen a cornerback look so good, so soon, as Dennard has looked in training camp.

The best rookie corner I’ve seen,” Lewis told Dan Hoard, the Bengals’ radio voice.

The Bengals have good depth at cornerback with veterans Leon Hall, Terence Newman, Adam Jones and Dre Kirkpatrick, but if Dennard is as good as Lewis says he is, he’ll be a starter as a rookie. No matter what the current depth chart says.

Lewis knows how to draft. Now Mike Brown is out of the draft room its been good.

CINN defense could be #1 in AFC if everyone is healthy – a big “IF” in the Not For Long league.
Still, I wouldn’t want to go up against them.

Lol @ a depth chart before even the first pre season game

I was shocked that he landed with the Bengals. Teams ahead of them should be reprimanded for allowing Cincinnati to pick the best conerback in the draft. Chicago’s GM needs to be held accountable for their huge mistake in passing him. Unbelievable.

I am hesitantly excited about Darqueze Dennard.

The increased vigilance by NFL referees against physical cornerbacks… and… Dennard having the reputation of being physical concerns me.

THAT SAID… I would much rather have physical cornerbacks than weaklings DBs who allow opponent’s wide receivers to run past and control them.

REMEMBER: The 2013 Cincinnati Bengals had the 5th ranked PASS Defense in the NFL WITHOUT All-Pro Leon Hall (injured in Week 5)

How does an NFL Head coach keep his job after not winning a single playoff game in 11 seasons? #firemarvinlewis

Reminds me a lot of when Socrates discovered gravity. When that apple fell on his head, everybody knew the universe was round. Even Plato.

Dennard is a lot like that.

Still find it hard to believe the Detroit Lions passed on him for another offensive weapon. I understand the Ebron pick; however, I see more value in trading down a couple of spots, gaining more draft picks and selecting Dennard.

The fact that he’s talking him before he’s played an official NFL down tells you all you need to know. Just trying to pick up the kid’s confidence.

crawfish2001,Lewis keeps his job because before he got to Bengals, they had not been in playoff for 12 years. Now that he is here, they go every year.he will win one this year.Bengals have been the best at drsaft for last several years since Lewis was allowed more control over personnel.
