Tyrann Mathieu hopes to practice in a few weeks

Cardinals safety Tyrann Mathieu was hoping to be back for the opener.

But even if the Cardinals don’t always share his optimism, Mathieu said he’s getting closer to coming back from last year’s torn ACL.

I expect to be at practice the next two to three weeks,” Mathieu said, via Darren Urban of the team’s official website. “Hopefully we can stick to that timetable.”

Asked if coach Bruce Arians was on board with that timetable, Mathieu said: “I shared it with him. I don’t think he takes me too seriously.”

Mathieu remains on the physically unable to perform list, and it’s unclear if the Cardinals want to move him off there or shelve him for the first six weeks of the season.

Mathieu said he wants to prove himself ready to contribute, and the Cardinals might be willing to wait for a full-speed Honey Badger.

Hoping for a full recovery for you as soon as possible, TM7. You have done a great job of representing yourself and the Cardinal nation since you joined the team. Best of luck.

Love watching this kid. Usually the smallest guy on the field at any given time but plays with more tenacity and heart than anybody else out there.

But will he pass the drug test?

I hope he doesn’t rush back too soon and make the situation worse or more permanent. Like this guys game and appreciate how hard he works.

He’s been better on and off the field than anyone would have thought a year or so ago.

Living in Phoenix we all buy Fritz’s jersey. Tyrann has come so far, both on and off the field, to show we support him I’m buying his jersey this week.

Love how this kid overcame a drug addiction. Hoping he can fully overcome this injury as well.

He’s over estimated every step of his recovery so far. As a guy who’s followed him and the cards a ton bet the house he’s on the pup list to start the season.

Yes. I like Honey Badger stories. We need more.

Too many Manziel and Bon Jovi stories lately.

In all seriousness though, I love watching Mathieu play and I hope for a speedy recovery.

Wish we had him on the Raiders.

As football fans we should all hope Honey Badger makes a full comeback – he’s super fun to watch and guys like this are rare.
