Canucks owner considered buying Bills

Terry Pegula isn’t the only NHL owner that considered buying the NFL’s Buffalo Bills.  According to Tim Graham of the Buffalo News, Vancouver Canucks chairman Francesco Aquilini explored the process.

Sufficiently intrigued by the opportunity to agree to the non-disclosure agreement inked by all potential bidders, Aquilini ultimately opted to pass on the possible purchase.

“I’m always exploring potential business opportunities, and I’m passionate about sports. So this is something that interested me,” Aquilini said in a statement issued to the Buffalo News.  “However, we are not planning to pursue the opportunity further.”

No specific reason has been given for the decision to not make a bid on the Bills.

Because he wouldn’t be allowed to move the team to Canada? Maybe that’s why? Just a shot in the dark there’

Given the way he’s run the Canucks, the Bills dodged a real bullet here.

No Canadian will ever own the Bills.

Owners of teams in another pro league aren’t allowed to own NFL teams that aren’t in the same market. How’s this different from Jeremy Jacobs?

If you’re concerned about the track record of an Owner’s NHL team you have a real winner in Pegula. Actually, you may be better off with Aquilini – 2 years of winning the Presidents Trophy and a Stanley Cup finalist.

Just get it done and take this horrible team away.

    I’ll pay the shipping.

He saw the town of Buffalo and ran, can’t say I blame him.

I considered buying the Bills also. I was a little short of cash.

Yeah, but there’s no accounting for your taste.

Perhaps his business partner, Joe Toronto, couldn’t come up with his share of the cash.

How about this idea, just let us know when someone buys the Bills. No one cares about constant updates about who may have wanted to buy them, is going to buy them, who doesnt bid enough to buy them.

I mean this is getting old.

  12. ecnc30 says: Aug 9, 2014 10:17 AM

Nobody outside of rust-belt Boofalo cares about this pathetic team…no updates until some idiot overpays for these jerks, and please God someone who will move them far, far away….anybody in London interested…? How about Iraq…yeah, let’s put them there.

No, when he came to Buffalo he decided he couldn’t stand the Canadian stench coming from Lake Ontario.

Guy is a total slimeball and is well known around Van as being just that. His interference with the team has cost them in recent seasons

For example, he blocked the trade of a strong asset in Ryan Kesler at the deadline last year because he wanted to try and take an ineffective team into a final playoff position for the revenue. Team missed out (and wasn’t close) and they had to take a much worse deal in the offseason when Kesler forced their hand and used a no trade clause to limit the trade options to one team.

He wouldn’t have the cash anyway.

Buffalo deserves a good owner. I hope they stay in Buffalo. I think Wellington Mara would agree – Giants fan

Doesn’t he know that the Bills fans don’t want anything to do with Canada??

The Canadian resistance has been so strong I’m not sure if they would want Niagara Falls involved.

Go away! American football has no business in Canada

  19. iloveagoodnap says: Aug 9, 2014 1:14 PM

Pretty obvious isn’t it? The NDA cited that the team couldn’t be moved and he wanted them in Vancouver or somewhere else in Canada.

It’s no coincidence that the JBJ group drastically changed their tune about the teams future as soon as the NDA wasn’t sent out

American football is just a small piece of the American pie that being sold off all around the world.

You had it, you lost it.

    It’s over baby.
