Chad Johnson’s play draws scrutiny in Montreal

In his first five games with the CFL’s Montreal Alouettes, receiver Chad Johnson caught four passes, eighth-best on the club. Save for a long TD catch early in the season, his first Canadian campaign has been lacking in highlights for 1-4 Montreal, whose offense has sputtered.

In a Thursday press conference, Alouettes coach Tom Higgins said time is of the essence for Johnson to start playing better.

“We’re getting closer to the end than we are the beginning if we don’t start having better output,” said Higgins.

While Higgins made it clear the entire offense has had issues, the Als’ coach said the club has “put a little pressure” on Johnson to pick it up.

Higgins’ remarks alone are attention-getting. And then there’s this: In a story published Tuesday by the Montreal Gazette, an anonymous Alouettes player reportedly alleged Johnson wasn’t working hard enough.

On the other hand, Alouettes wide receivers coach Erik Campbell went on the record to tell the Gazette that Johnson’s work habits weren’t a problem.

“He works well in the classroom and on the field,” Campbell told the publication.

The Alouettes host the Edmonton Eskimos on Friday night at 7 p.m. Eastern. According to the Edmonton Journal, Johnson indicated he will speak after the game after declining interviews Thursday.

Well serves them right for cutting my favorite UDFA Robert Godhigh. I’m sure their other RBs are just fine, but I wanted to see some Godhigh highlights more than anything and they halted those chances too early, boo!!

Man, I remember when this clown was wearing HOF jacket on Cincinnati sideline. What a Buffon…

I would say that Johnson felt that he could coast through the “lesser” CFL (his perception, not mine) while waiting for a phone call from the NFL.

He also plays the toughest spot on the field. Wide field WR in CFL doesn’t see as much passes, and the QB play in Montreal is atrocious.

I knew he would never be great once he put on the yellow jacket with the tape sign asking “future HOF’er?”

Who? Seriously nobody cares. Just go away chad. You were a one trick pony whose career has been put out to pasture. Guy has not been relevant in 6 years.

Keep that homemade HOF jacket. It’s the only one you will ever see.

I, too, would have retired (like Carson Palmer) if I was forced to continue playing with lazy, undisciplined locker room diva chad ochojohnson cinco.

Bengals owner mike brown should have chopped or traded the low character distraction instead of enabling him.

chad ochojohnsoncinco was a good teammate and player while demanding Hue Jackson held his feet to the flames. After Hue left… the carnival began.

What? Over-the-hill dumb guy who used to be pretty good years ago is struggling in Canada?
    No way!!! Shocker!!!

    Hey Chad:

Michael Irvin has turned his drug-induced-part-time-preacher act into a full time, barely entertaining, barely coherent position on TV. FULL time. PAID!

You cannot tell me that you cannot do that.. in triplicate.

    Quit lying to yourself.

    What are you doing?.. Eh?

Chad Johnson can’t catch the ball because there’s no one on the Als who can THROW THE BALL.
