Dolphins, Falcons trade touchdowns with starting offenses

Philbin

The best news for both the Dolphins and Falcons is that the starting offenses emerged from the first quarter of the first preseason game with no apparent injuries. The second-best news is that both starting offenses scored touchdowns on their opening drives.

The Dolphins, with third-year quarterback Ryan Tannehill running coordinator Bill Lazor’s new offense, led the Dolphins 73 yards in 10 plays. Tannehill completed six of six passes for 62 yards, and a six-yard touchdown pass to Brandon Gibson.

For Atlanta, Matt Ryan completed all seven attempts in leading the Falcons on a 15-play, 77-yard march. Running back Jacquizz Rodgers capped the drive with a two-yard score.

Both Tannehill and Ryan exited after one series.

Receiver Julio Jones and running back Steven Jackson aren’t playing for the Falcons, as expected.
