We’ve covered center Khaled Holmes’s ankle injury already on Friday, but he wasn’t the only member of the Colts offensive line to leave Thursday night’s preseason opener with an injury.

Rookie tackle Ulrick John, a seventh-round pick, left the game with an ankle injury. Stephen Holder of the Indianapolis Star reports that it is a broken ankle, an injury that will keep John out of the lineup for quite some time and eats away at their depth.

The same may be true of Xavier Nixon’s absence. Nixon has been held out of practice because of a knee injury and tweeted Friday that he was having surgery. Nixon started one game at guard for the Colts last season and can also play tackle, so his absence would squeeze them at a pair of positions.

The Colts may need to add some bodies on the line to get them through the preseason even if Holmes is given a clean bill of health. If the MRI goes the other way, they won’t have much choice.
