One of the oldest football cliches is that if you have two quarterbacks, you have none.
So how many do the Vikings actually have?
None of the triumvirate of Matt Cassel, Teddy Bridgewater or Christian Ponder did much to stand out, which only serves to bolster Adrian Peterson’s MVP candidacy before he takes his first snap of the year.
Bridgewater was a just-OK 6-of-13 for 49 yards, as the Vikings and Raiders played a genuine preseason football game.
Bridgewater looked poised and competent at times, which is kind of what we expected. But he took a few sacks, one in the red zone that he can’t take if he’s playing for real.
There wasn’t much to see on either side of a sloppy game.
Raiders rookie quarterback Derek Carr completed 10-of-16 passes but threw an interception, hardly the kind of performance that will put any heat on starter Matt Schaub.
But if this kind of play holds up over the course of the season, both teams should be in position to draft a quarterback high next year.
