Cardinals linebacker John Abraham released a statement a little over a week ago apologizing for his DUI arrest in June and saying that he was “taking the necessary steps to handle my personal business.”

Abraham closed the statement by saying that he was “looking forward” to joining his teammates at camp in the near future. There’s been no further public update from Abraham, but the Cardinals may have a better idea of his plans.

Cardinals coach Bruce Arians said Monday that the team is “hoping” that Abraham reports to camp this week. If he does, he’ll have more than three weeks to prepare for the regular season opener, which helps explain why the team has said they aren’t concerned about the veteran’s absence from camp thus far.

Abraham has a previous arrest for DWI and could face league discipline, although his case may not work its way through the legal system for some time.
