Dolphins not signing Grossman (or Tebow)

Yes, free-agent quarterback Rex Grossman had a workout with the Dolphins on Monday, reportedly along with Brady Quinn and John Skelton.  A league source tells PFT that Grossman won’t be signing with the Dolphins.

But that’s not the end of the line for Grossman.  He’s got another workout lined up with team whose identity is not yet known.

It’s a surprise that the Browns didn’t sign Grossman already, since he knows the Kyle Shanahan offense inside and out and can teach it to guys who don’t know it.

A first-round pick of the Bears in 2003, Grossman helped Chicago get to Super Bowl XLI in 2006, the only season of his career in which Grossman started every game.  He spent a year in Houston and started 13 games for Washington in 2011.

He also hasn’t played in a regular-season game since 2011.

The Dolphins also won’t be signing Tim Tebow, who took the Broncos to the playoffs in 2011.  Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald, who reports that Skelton also won’t be signed, made the case for Tebow at least getting a workout on Monday’s PFT Live.

    What is Ray Lucas doing?

I wouldn’t be surprised if the Niners were the other team he is going to work out for. Still wondering why we gave up a pick for Gabbert. He’s horrible. Makes me cringe.

Grossman >>>>>>> Tebow. Not even close!

Grossman should be in Tampa, mentoring Mike Glennon. Doesn’t Lovie remember who got him to the Super Bowl?

I don’t get it, Grossman started an entire season and lead his team to the Superbowl and he can’t even find work as a backup? Hell, he’s better than any of the 3 Qb’s on the Vikings right now, granted that is exactly setting the bar that high but still, he should be a back up some where if not outright starting for the Vikings.

Remember when Tebow led his team to a playoff victory? The steeler organization along with their fans should still be emberassed. Atleast the yinzers can remind us of those 6 tainted SB’s.

Tebow has a better win% and playoff success than MIA has had in years! Shame on the Jesus and Tebow hating NFL!

  12. destructicus says: Aug 11, 2014 3:08 PM

Ronnie Brown is available. He’d be a better backup QB than Tebow.

So is Miami getting Quinn? At long last their 10 year plan, starting with drafting Ginn and his family, is starting to come together.

No need to panic Dolphins, Jeff Garcia is still available and willing to give it a go haha.

Tebow = Western Civilization, have some pride in Western Civilization, people!

Grossman to bucs, Tebow to chicago

“The Miami NFL Franchise” has a long road ahead of them this year, especially with that O-Line. They made need a few good back-ups in queue.

Jeez… is Brock Jenson really this bad? We only need a temporary 4th QB to get through the week. Who cares if lose in Pre-Season, but the 2nd and 3rd Teamer’s are going to suffer and not get a fair evaluation. Sign Quinn, Seneca Wallace, Brett Smith or even Kyle Orton (doubt he would do this for bread crumbs and no shot at making the team at anything higher than 3rd string).

The only reason Grossman even went to a Super Bowl was because of the defense and Devin Hester. Had any other quarterback played that game, the Bears would have easily defeated the Colts.

I would rather have the Fins borrow Scott Mitchell from the biggest loser to be a backup than Tebow.

    Uh.. Defense?

  22. doggeatdogg says: Aug 11, 2014 6:04 PM

Don’t know about Tannehill and all the backups are banged up apparently. So yeah, why not try everybody. What I would like to know is why is it that teams don’t go to undrafted QB’s at this point in the season instead of resorting to worn out tire threads.

Run with what you got!!! Philbin & Ross… MORE CRAPPY DECISIONS!!! Work some trade magic!!!

  24. winninaintsinnin says: Aug 11, 2014 6:13 PM

    Not signing Tebow?

Don’t they want to beat Pittsburgh?

  25. jaypace says: Aug 12, 2014 7:24 AM

People always try to down play Rex. He three 23 Tds the year the bears went to the Super Bowl and pulled out a huge win in the playoffs. Rex did mix in the occasional stinker but people really do act like he had nothing to do with the bears making the Super Bowl. And still people try to pin that loss on him two. Never mind that the defense got run over.

  26. sactogary says: Aug 12, 2014 11:47 AM

There is no point for any team to sign Tebow as a backup. You can’t just plug him in as a replacement. Denver made a half-hearted attempt to let him run some option plays, and they went 7-4 after starting 1-4. Fox and Elway never really bought in, and couldn’t wait to get rid of him.

Receivers, backs and linemen who would excel in the option game can be had cheaply, but no one wants to take the chance. If you’re the Bucs, the Jags, or any of the other teams that are going to suck anyway, why not?
