Romo will play on Saturday

Romo AP

He may be 100 percent.  He may not be 100 percent.  Either way, Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo will play on Saturday night against the Ravens.

“You’re not guaranteed anything, so it’s special just to play football,” Romo said Tuesday, via Todd Archer of ESPNDallas.com.  “It’s special to play for the team I get to play for, and it’s special to get out there and put the helmet on.  For me, I don’t take that for granted.  I know that it’s a great feeling when you do get out there.”

Romo needs experience in an offense that features a new play caller, Scott Linehan.

“I think you have to play in the preseason,” Romo said.  “Obviously, some people can’t, but I do know from my perspective, this game is not just something where you can show up and think that you can do it.  I think it’s been proven far too many times that if you take too long of a break or don’t get reps under you that you will be exposed in certain areas.  I’m a firm believer that you have to play football to get better at football.  Football’s a way of life.  It’s not just [a] sometimes thing.  It’s an all-the-time thing if you’re going to be a great player, and I think if you have the opportunity to play, you’ve got to play.”

Romo didn’t play last week against the Chargers, and questions remain regarding the consistency of his deep passes following a second back surgery in two years.  He’ll begin to answer some of those questions against Baltimore on Saturday.

Including whether he can avoid further back problems.

The Saints are the most popular team in Houston, soon they shall be most popular team in Dallas. Who could belive that the #WhoDatNation would expand to encompass all of Texas? And who could believe that JerryJones would let Sean Payton walk out the door? #incompetence

“Romo will play, providing that Ray Rice doesn’t play on defense”, said Jerrah in a follow-up interview. “Keep that animal away from my girls”.

Wish he would have played against my Chargers last week so that both teams could accurately judge their aptitude.

Can’t blow a 4th quarter lead when you never have one. Good luck this year Cowboys.

He threw ALOT of underneath stuff in the Raiders scrimmage today.. (Day 1).

Aikman, Staubach, Joe Montana could be back there at QB playing against the 1976 Buccanneers…with that pathetic defense, it doesn’t matter. They would still lose.

Could this be weedens big break if romo falters? We might be witnessing NFL history. This will be the first time in which the qb of the future is older than the current qb.

My commiserations to Cowboys fans everywhere.

One series. At most. Don’t lose your 100mil QB to a preseason game.

  22. bucsorbust says: Aug 13, 2014 5:26 AM

What exactly is meant by “will play?” We heard this all of last year too. More correct to say Romo will be “on the field” or “throwing the ball.”

  23. giants1080 says: Aug 13, 2014 5:30 AM

He Still don’t got a back bone.. Big game tony will choke again and again……..

  24. dallascowboysdishingthereal says: Aug 13, 2014 5:44 AM

Reports are that Romo looked much better last Saturday on throwing deep passes. It’s a good idea to get some plays in a preseason game so he has more confidence in his back come week 1.

  25. gammynomnom says: Aug 13, 2014 5:57 AM

Practicing with the raiders and playing against the Ravens.. Is the NFL secretly training the Cowboys to fight crime?

  26. gammynomnom says: Aug 13, 2014 5:59 AM

And let me see, everything the guy he said was humble, no false Bravado or predictions or trash talk. Naturally haters in one… two….

  27. giants1080 says: Aug 13, 2014 6:45 AM

Guy still don’t have a backbone so he will never be 100%. Big game tony will always choke that’s 100%…..

  28. vaughnjoe says: Aug 13, 2014 6:51 AM

Its looking bleak for Americas Team. Jerry give it a rest, you lost the magic. Manziel is looking good right now.

  29. 88xfactor says: Aug 13, 2014 7:42 AM

Can’t wait to see my boy get loose and hook up with Dez for a bomb down field. I think he’s ready. We’ll see.

  30. starfan79 says: Aug 13, 2014 8:20 AM

well they hardly threw the ball deep anyway… But I think he just wants to get behind the offensive line and see how much time he can get.

  31. cowboyfan66 says: Aug 13, 2014 9:13 AM

If I had a dollar for every time I screamed “where’s the deep pass?” the last 3 seasons, I’d be rich!!! So why is the deep ball an issue now?

  32. poshous4life says: Aug 13, 2014 9:41 AM

You can question Romos ability to win playoff games (sort of) but you can not question the dudes commitment to his team and to play the game!

  33. dirtydrynn27 says: Aug 13, 2014 9:56 AM

Room is not the issue…..the defense is!!!!!!

  34. babygaga19 says: Aug 13, 2014 10:10 AM

I really dont need to read about Romo’s preseason schedule. Who cares? He is an average qb at best, big time choker, married a pretty wife………………snore. Wake me when Dallas gets a real qb. You know, a winner.

  35. jints10 says: Aug 13, 2014 10:30 AM

Room won’t make it past the first Giants game…The Giants D is better than its been in years!!! They are gunna slaughter lil Tony!!!

  37. cueghost says: Aug 13, 2014 11:17 AM

The Dallas Cowboys are going to upset the 49ers in Week 1… Book it.

  38. crownofthehelmet says: Aug 13, 2014 1:53 PM

I’m sure he’s looking forward to loosening up against a high-school caliber defense.
