Raiders believe tight end Nick Kasa tore his ACL

The Raiders are looking a little thin at tight end right now.

David Ausberry has been out since early August after having a procedure on his knee and coach Dennis Allen announced the loss of another player at the position on Wednesday. Allen said that preliminary tests show that Nick Kasa tore his ACL during Tuesday’s joint practice with the Cowboys. The injuries leave the Raiders with Mychal Rivera and not much else at tight end, which may necessitate a roster move.

“That’s something we have to look at, ┬áto see if we can add someone to the roster,” Allen said via Scott Bair of CSNBayArea.com.

Kasa played all 16 games for the Raiders last season, though much of his work came on special teams. He had one catch for 14 yards and a touchdown, but is probably best known for being asked if he liked girls before the 2013 combine.

There’s been no timetable laid out by the team for Ausberry’s return, but Bair reports that he isn’t expected to be out for the long term if his recovery goes well.

The Raiders are looking a little thin at tight end right now.

And at the end of the season they will look a lot thin in the win column as usual.

Tough break. I really like Kasa. Meanwhile, even more pressure on Rivera. Probably going to need a free agent.

The Raiders thin and terrible receiving corps just got more thin and terrible.

Damn. Its looking like they might give Finley a look now. Although I want Rivera to start because he showed some good things last year with 400 yards and 4 TDs in just 3 starts in his rookie year.

Tough luck for the kid and wish him a speedy recovery. It just keeps getting worse for the No. 32 Raiders.

While they may be thin at TE, don’t overlook the potential Leonhardt has. He had a decent chance of making the roster, injuries or not. Rivera has the makings of a future star (better rookie receiving numbers than the likes of Graham, Gonzalez and Witten), so they really only need one more guy. Pettigrew could use a new start for a 7th rounder, no?

Finley’s asking for too much and his neck injury makes him suspect. The Raiders should wait for the cutdown to 75 players and scan TE free agent list.

Good thing Rivera is turning into a solid pass catcher.
They’ll definitely need some depth, though.
