Marshawn Lynch fully cleared, police say Lynch “was not involved in any way”

The Seattle Seahawks called claims that running back Marshawn Lynch was involved in an alleged assault an incident of personal property damage “bogus.”

The Bellevue Police Department now completely agrees with that assessment.

Public Information Officer Seth Tyler released a statement Wednesday night clearing Lynch of any wrongdoing in the matter.

“The Bellevue Police Department has determined that Marshawn Lynch was not involved in this incident in any way. This case remains an open and active investigation. We appreciate the cooperation we have received from Mr. Lynch and the Seahawks organization during this investigation.”

A female victim accused Lynch of assault and personal property damage stemming from an alleged incident that occurred at 2:30 a.m. Sunday morning. Bellevue Police issued a statement Monday that they were investigating Lynch to determine whether he was involved in the incident.

The Seahawks released a statement Tuesday backing Lynch that stated: “While we maintain the utmost respect for the investigative process, after speaking with Marshawn, we are comfortable these accusations are bogus.”

The Bellevue Police said Tuesday they had made significant progress in investigating the matter and were “committed to bringing this investigation to a quick resolution.”

Now the Seahawks and Lynch can focus their full attention back to the field, where Lynch could see his first action this preseason Friday night against the San Diego Chargers.

  7. christoten says: Aug 14, 2014 12:28 AM

Marshawn is rough around the edges but he is actually a good dude once you get to know him. He’s just a private guy and kind introverted with the public. This coming from a teammate in Seattle back in 2010.

  9. slugbaitspace says: Aug 14, 2014 12:29 AM

Hmmm…I wonder if “This case remains an open and active investigation” translates to “There will be charges made for filing a false police report”.

Followed closely by a potential lawsuit for defamation of character, perhaps…

So, where are all the haters that have been running their mouths the last couple days? I guess beast mode must have ate all the trolls like a they were a bag of skittles.

Well, that would’ve been fun for us niner fans but never seemed to hold much water. Glad the Bellevue PD got the truth out quickly, unlike the Miami PD with Kaepernick.

Whew!! I worried for a few days that this might be another Ray Rice type incident and a 2 game suspension for Lynch.

This means a repeat is well within the range of possibilities since there will not be any major missing piece!!

    Go Seahawks!

So what is the recourse for this broad dragging his name through the mud in the first place? “Victims” do actual victims an injustice by crying wolf. Makes me real suspicious of any victim of a star that doesn’t have a smoking gun. That’s not cool for them but what else should we do?

Not a fan of either team, but Seattle has the lynch crap, and San Fran has the Kap crap, both completely false! World is full of leeches who try to take advantage of successful people. Happy that both got off in in their respective cases. NFL is better with both of them on the field.

  42. loslonelyman says: Aug 14, 2014 5:11 AM

Skittles crushed into her carpets all through the house…Large athletic man seen fleeing….Totally could not be him…

  43. achillesofwooters says: Aug 14, 2014 5:48 AM

So the Bellevue PD makes Lynch a national headline with the words “assault” & “property damage” attached before even talking to Lynch & asking for his alibi, much less taking a few minutes to find out whether it was iron-clad or not (it was). Irresponsible police work considering the fact that people tend to assume anyone under investigation must be guilty of something.

  44. jdog5428 says: Aug 14, 2014 6:01 AM

When are people going to realize that football players are not violent people? OJ proved that point when he was found not-guilty.

The LEO’s need to start jailing people who file false reports trying to get a “legal” payday on athletes. Tired of seeing athletes used as banking systems for the unethical.

  50. brownsmakemecrazy says: Aug 14, 2014 7:15 AM

Good for Marshawn and the Seahawks. Figured if the Seahawks made the statement they made, they had strong information he wasnt involved. They are a smart organization

  51. heyguru69 says: Aug 14, 2014 7:22 AM

Of course it’s his life to make personal decisions, but nothing positive comes from being at “clubs” at 2:30am when you’re in training camp. Headlines are reserved for bad things. Period.

  52. dfwhawkguy says: Aug 14, 2014 7:24 AM

Must be weird for Santa Clara 49’er fans to see an NFL player cleared of wrong-doing by actual law enforcement. They just hear the same tired, “I didn’t do it” after ever felonious act by virtually every member of their roster.

The Shermanesque march to yet another Lombardi continues! #gohawks

  53. ctiggs says: Aug 14, 2014 7:36 AM

  54. jimmyt says: Aug 14, 2014 7:45 AM

  62. scoobaj says: Aug 14, 2014 9:04 AM

  63. whysomanylosers says: Aug 14, 2014 9:39 AM

Seachickens used “bogus:” in their official statement?

Guess I should not be surprised from a bogus organization, with a bogus coach, a track record for bogus PED use, and a bogus fan base.

  64. realitycheckbaby says: Aug 14, 2014 9:49 AM

    Different than Kap or Smith.

Beast was literally not part of it. Word is some guy was telling women he was Lynch and she fell for it.

    Smith is guilty.

    Kap was involved.

  65. jayniner says: Aug 14, 2014 10:42 AM

Even us 49ers fan knew not to jump to conclusions on Lynch until the facts came out, considering the Kaepernick incident in Miami.

  66. ayyyjayyy says: Aug 14, 2014 11:15 AM

Yup luxury seats involved here folks.

  67. spohawk says: Aug 14, 2014 11:22 AM

The Hawks knew it was bogus, because they had done a bed check and have security officers in the halls at he team hotel.

  68. granadafan says: Aug 14, 2014 11:23 AM

One has to wonder if the Seahawks created these fake charges and set Lynch up. He wants a new contract, they played hardball with him, and he reluctantly shows up to camp. Then this fake assault charge magically appears. Follow the money trail of the person accusing Lynch.

  69. kgb108 says: Aug 15, 2014 6:09 PM

Goddell logics says he must now impose a 4 game suspension seeing as how the same thing happened to Big Ben.

  70. RegisHawk says: Aug 25, 2014 12:01 PM

Turns out it was Big Ben in a wig who made the false claim.
