Nick Fairley not slated to start at Oakland

Nick Fairley’s fourth NFL season isn’t off to the smoothest of starts.

Fairley, who’s in a contract year, will not start Friday’s exhibition game at Oakland, according to Tim Twentyman of Instead, C.J. Mosley will get the call next to Ndamukong Suh in the middle of the defensive line.

The 26-year-old Fairley started all 15 regular season games in which he played in 2013, recording a career-best six sacks. However, his weight reportedly has not been to the club’s liking, and he’s been playing as a backup of late.

According to Twentyman, star Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson won’t play at all at Oakland, with defensive end Ezekiel Ansah also getting the night off.

So who did the Ravens get in this trade, which seems to have gone under the radar?

Good call… Fairley’s been a fairly clear flop so far.

Career best… in a couple seasons that is.

Dude gets blocked by full backs and leaves double teams on Suh. C’mon man, put up Nick.

C.J. Mosley will get the call next to Suh in the middle of the line??? Last time I checked, Mosley was a LB. Why would he get the call to play DL?

If you had spent the 10 seconds required to look up the Lions’ roster, as opposed to the time spent coming up with a snarky comment, you would realize that Mike Wilkening is talking about the C.J. Mosley that has spent nine years playing defensive tackle in the NFL. Not the the C.J. Mosley who has yet to play a regular season game.

It’s true, more than one person can share the same name.

At this point of an NFL player’s career, or at any point for that matter, should it be necessary to demote them to send a message that they need to work hard and stay in shape?
