Andy Dalton’s lighting up the Jets (yet again)

A.J. Green, Andy Dalton AP

If Andy Dalton could always play the Jets, there wouldn’t be any question whether he deserved a big new contract.

Dalton was sharp during his start against New York tonight, a clean 8-of-8 passing for 144 yards and a touchdown before handing the game off to Matt Scott.

He threw for 325 yards and five touchdown against the Jets last October, in a 49-9 win.

Now if he could just arrange for the Jets to meet him in the playoffs, he could put a lot of the other talk to rest, as well.

Just remember kids, rex said he doesnt need good corners- he can lose without them.

  2. jetsfan67 says: Aug 16, 2014 8:23 PM

If you think 133 yards passing in 2 quarters is lighting it up, you should cover another sport.

  3. jetsfan67 says: Aug 16, 2014 8:27 PM

    Lol, just kidding.

  4. nehxas says: Aug 16, 2014 8:29 PM

Good, no context as to why. Just make sure the world knows the jets suck!

  5. bengalskuta82 says: Aug 16, 2014 8:30 PM

That red hair got caught on fire

  6. voiceofreasonsays says: Aug 16, 2014 8:31 PM

The New York Football Team of the AFC will go 2-14 this year. Their name also offends me.

  7. markcarroll85 says: Aug 16, 2014 8:35 PM

More like 133 yards passing in a quarter and a couple of plays. Believe me it could have gotten a lot worse jetsfan67. And yes your D was lit up .

  8. jmblosser82 says: Aug 16, 2014 8:35 PM

Well it isn’t prime time so he will have decent stats.

  9. redandgoldhitman52 says: Aug 16, 2014 8:37 PM

”andy dalton is lighting it up”
too bad we’ll never here those words in the playoffs

  10. slick50ks says: Aug 16, 2014 8:40 PM

There’s very little likelihood that the jests fly anywhere near the playoffs this year.

    Poor Andy.

  11. jetsfan67 says: Aug 16, 2014 8:43 PM

@ voiceofreasonsays, your name offends everyone.

  12. paulbrownlives says: Aug 16, 2014 8:47 PM

The name Jets should be changed it is offensive to sharks everywhere.

  13. nehxas says: Aug 16, 2014 8:49 PM

The D that put out their safety and 4th string CB as the starting corners got lit up, I’m real impressed.

  14. phlockar says: Aug 16, 2014 8:51 PM

Preseason or not, Dalton seems to be producing so far. A couple nice looking deep passes and quick intermediate strikes.

  15. bonniebengal says: Aug 16, 2014 9:10 PM

What I’ve noticed is the play calling is much better since Hue Jackson took over.

  16. nyjalleffingday says: Aug 16, 2014 9:20 PM

Woah!!!! You mean to tell me an experienced QB with a great stable of offensive talent around him was able to throw on a defense missing it’s top 2 corners and isn’t gameplanning against them? Impressive!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  17. realfootballfan says: Aug 16, 2014 9:29 PM

This just in, Hue Jackson’s pretty good. Andy Dalton looks like a different QB this preseason. He, dare I say, looks kind of elite. Gulp, lol.

  18. bengalsbilly says: Aug 16, 2014 9:38 PM

Well, he did the same thing against the starting corners last year…

  19. slobberknocker says: Aug 16, 2014 9:47 PM

Don’t get too excited Bengal fans: I could have gone 8 for 8 against the Jets however I would have thrown for over 500 yards.

  20. drewzducks says: Aug 16, 2014 10:17 PM

It’s a statistical impossibility for Dalton and the Bengals to face the Jets in the Playoffs. Regular season, sure.

  21. taintedsaints2009 says: Aug 16, 2014 10:28 PM

Durrrrrr we should be feared by any team that plays us durrrrrrrrr

  22. dtr3e says: Aug 16, 2014 10:43 PM

lol, calm down everyone it’s only pre-season.

  23. laxer37 says: Aug 16, 2014 10:53 PM

No one has ever questioned Dalton’s ability to shine in games that aren’t important.

  24. denver1983 says: Aug 16, 2014 11:04 PM

Who’s a bigger joke? Giants or Jets?? Lol

  25. youpeopleareallthesame says: Aug 16, 2014 11:15 PM

Thanks, Andy! You’re making my decision to buy your jersey a few years back look smart.

  26. VenerableAxiom says: Aug 16, 2014 11:23 PM

Jets D is overrated. Decent against the run, terrible against the pass. Not a good thing in passing league.

  27. jkampel20 says: Aug 16, 2014 11:42 PM

These Jets fans trying to act like there’s no reason for concern is laughable.

Dalton and co. shredded you last year and picked up right where he left off tonight.

    Own it.

  28. dlk47823 says: Aug 17, 2014 2:15 AM

    jets won the game

  29. nobreak1269 says: Aug 17, 2014 7:15 AM

What are you talking about. The Jets beat Cincy in the playoffs 5 years ago-IN CINCY.

  30. jetsareajoke says: Aug 17, 2014 7:21 AM

Gotta admit it. Rex Ryan is a genius because with all the talk about what a GREAT defense the jests have, he is really keeping it hidden so far in preseason. Guess he doesn’t want to show his hand before the real games begin.

  31. bonniebengal says: Aug 17, 2014 7:39 AM

We didn’t have all our starters either. Marvin Jones, who scored four touchdowns against the Jets the last time we played them, did not play. Geno Atkins, our pro bowl D Lineman, did not play.

  32. sellout1983 says: Aug 17, 2014 8:01 AM

Man, he looked great last night. Nice to see him hitting guys in stride. Sanu looked good too.

  33. handsofsteelhartofstone says: Aug 17, 2014 8:19 AM

Talk to me in week 18

  34. thumbsmcd says: Aug 17, 2014 8:34 AM

Pretty sure Dalton has faced Jets in the playoffs before lol…..when you’re 0 and whatever in the playoffs, I don’t think it matters who you play, you’re still likely to lose

  35. hornbuckle says: Aug 17, 2014 9:04 AM

Vick is going to have to start.

  36. jetfanfolife says: Aug 17, 2014 10:07 AM

    Ahem!
    …Stats in pre-season are worthless

  37. jxt2521 says: Aug 17, 2014 10:21 AM

The real story was all the personal fouls and cheap shots by the jets.

  38. dagator8888 says: Aug 17, 2014 11:03 AM

I was at the game. The Jets were totally dominated by the Bengals on both sides of the ball until the Bengals pulled their starters. Rex left his starters in to show what a great team he has….against street urchins that wont make the roster. It was hilarious. Combine their ineptitude with the fact they think cheap personal fouls somehow give them points….you have the recipe for a coach in his last year.

    JETS:
    Just
    End
    The
    Season

  39. harrisonhits2 says: Aug 17, 2014 11:54 AM

Typical highly disciplined Rex Ryan team.

One thing they’ll be great at this year is leading the league in personal fouls.

Hey if you can’t play well you might as well cheat with cheap shots.

  40. tiggerblood says: Aug 17, 2014 5:02 PM

Let’s hope the injury bug stops biting now. When are 1st and second round picks left the game I was worried the ghost of seasons past had reared its ugly head again. Not having Marvin Jones for the first few weeks of the season sucks but it opens up first team reps for other recievers in practice. Hopefully Sanu or Hamilton emerge as a number 2 so when Jones returns he can man the slot which fits his skill set very well.

  41. jetnation007 says: Aug 17, 2014 11:19 PM

Bengal fans make me laugh, really. They r overreaction to a meaningless game. I was watching the jets d line, and they were showing no attempt to even disrupt dalton, and if thy did, 8-8 looks more like 5-8. Lol the bengals couldn’t even sell out a home playoff game, idk if it was cuz they have one if the worst fan bases in the nfl, or cuz everyone that’s a bengals fan knew the Super chargers were gona win.

  42. bengal4life says: Aug 18, 2014 9:00 AM

Everyone keeps bashing the Bengals for losing in the playoffs in the past. News flash new season. We dwell on the present and future not a five year old playoff loss to the Jets. lol. I see you have nothing else to talk about than past playoff losses. Sounds like a thread of Steeler fans.

  43. guitarkevin says: Aug 18, 2014 11:11 AM

The Bengals are forbidden to talk smack about anything football related until they win a playoff game.

    Signed,
    AFC North

  44. dynaco says: Aug 18, 2014 5:43 PM

Marino used to shred the Jets D as well, but also in a losing fashion.

  45. crownofthehelmet says: Aug 18, 2014 7:04 PM

Just caught the post-game interview by Dalton. I don’t think even he believes they’ll win a playoff game this year. He’s already talking about the playoff monkey he has to shake, and that he’s playing more loose and with more confidence, because of the new O coordinator. He has no idea what to change from previous years, and it’s apparent it is officially in his head. Hope one of the offseason acquisitions was a team psychiatrist.
