Raiders QB Derek Carr sustains concussion

Raiders rookie quarterback Derek Carr, who was knocked from Friday’s preseason matchup vs. Detroit, has sustained a concussion, coach Dennis Allen said after the game, according to multiple media outlets.

Carr was hit hard by Lions defensive end Larry Webster on a fourth quarter scramble, with Webster’s weight landing on Carr’s upper back. Carr also has rib soreness, Allen said, according to ESPN’s Paul Gutierrez.

Austin Murphy of Sports Illustrated reported Carr told a team doctor he “heard a crunch” as he was hit.

In about two quarters of action, Carr showed some potential, completing 9-of-16 passes for 109 yards and a touchdown. The second-round pick from Fresno State was relieved by Matt McGloin, who threw a 16-yard TD pass to Brice Butler with six seconds left to give Oakland a 27-26 victory.

Carr will have to go through NFL-mandated concussion testing to be cleared to return to action. The Raiders’ next preseason game is Friday, August 22 in Green Bay.

This year will simply be yet another year with a committed to an excrement product. McKenzie is the Ruben Amaro of the NFL. Totally clueless and incompetent.

I find Davis’s bluff to San Antonio hilarious. He will never get the votes. Quite honestly he won’t get the votes to move anywhere but to Field of Jeans.

If the NFL was smart they would attempt to force Davis to sell by a death of 1,000 cuts. As soon as he sells move the team to LA with a massive relocation fee that gets split 31 ways.

Even with a concussion Carr is better than any QB on the choker’s roster.

its never a good thing to get your QB hurt but we may have found a gem in McGloin…what a diffrance between last season and this season Mcgloin looked sharp out there and he led the team on couple nice drives late in game…RAIDERS BABY

Good game. Stafford proved tough. Go RAIDERS!

As a Vikings fan, I hope Carr is OK and is a legit QB. Both Oakland, and Minnesota need to catch a break as far as QB’s go…

I liked the Carr draft pick and think he’s a good long-term prospect who should have the time to be groomed.

The brain is a fragile organ and I hope that he’s thoroughly checked on to ensure that there’s no lasting damage.

Better that Webster fell on him than Suh. Suh would have been suspended for life.

Why is your “future” franchise QB playing late in the 4th quarter with a scrub O line????

Doesn’t seem like a smart thing to do….

Sustained a concussion? What, the football judge didn’t agree with the prosecution? Is there an overruled concussion too?

The brothers Carr….short lives in the nfl because their teams didn’t bother to get good protection for them.

Raiders should have developed Pryor he showed potential. Concussions can happen to anyone hopefully Carr is OK.

Raider hate is right up there with death and taxes… something that can always be counted on. There is no greater sign of relevance than the constant resistance of a foe or foes. So, whether or not the Raiders are relevant in the post-season is yet to be determined, but the face of the matter is the Raiders are relevant in your heads. Love it! Raider mystique rolls on even in the hard times.

He’ll be ok. He’s showing some promise too. Entertaining game to watch even though the refs for that game had to be some of the worst ever. Latavius gets is helmet ripped off, no penalty. At the end that TE gets speared in the head from the side, helmet goes flying, no penalty. He was obviously concussed as well on that play.

Wish the kid a quick recovery. The No. 32 Raiders are going to need him.

  22. beatdown15 says: Aug 16, 2014 11:41 AM

Dennis Allen is a special kind of stupid keeping him in with a 3rd string line…

  23. isphet71 says: Aug 16, 2014 11:53 AM

It seemed like a mistake for the Raiders to try so hard to win a preseason game. They left their 1′s and then 2′s in there for a little too long I thought.

Re-inserting some 1′s into the game at the end was completely jumping the shark.

I guess you were to busy watching the raiders win, rather than watching your “Choo Choo” Super Bowl Express getting pooped on by a bunch of birds..41-14, and besides ex Cal Bear, and Raider fan Keenan Allen ,you had no positives to take away from this train ride pal….Had to love seeing terrelle pryor bust one for 44 yards and a td against your #1 chargers

What game were you watching????? Oh, you are a Lions fan….understood….it’s ok….it’s only the pre-season. No need for excuses….game does not matter

Once again, McGloin proves to be the best QB on the roster.

  27. oneilistheone says: Aug 16, 2014 1:01 PM

We drafted to Carr to be the QB of the Future?
Traded for Slobb to be a Veteran leadership presence?
McGloin is the Past or passed over?

The Beauty of having McGloin is, If Slob does stink it up? then the coaches still dont have to just throw Carr into the fire. If they dont think he has full command of the playbook then I think it is safe to say that they have a little confidence in Matt? But if Carr does have it then, let it be.

Remember the future is not some far distant time,it is always litterally your next breath! because it is unknown to you if it will in fact be your last. Future Present and “Passed”.

  28. simplesimon1 says: Aug 16, 2014 1:07 PM

As a Lions fan, I’d be starting McGloin. And not just because of last night. Because he is the most poised QB on the roster. Schaub is not good and Carr could be, but he’d not there yet.

That being said, I think your coach is insane. Honestly, at the end throwing starters back into a meaningless game against guys that won’t even be on the Lions practice roster was fine to get a win, but a huge risk as well. Preseason doesn’t matter. Here’s my case in point….the year the Lions went 0-16 in 2008, they went 4-0 in the preseason.

I love the Raiders. They’re my second favorite team actually. But to barely pull it out against practice roster guys when reinserting starters both on defense and offense was a bit stupid. I hope the Raiders have a great year, but I’m getting more and more skeptical by the hour after watching what it took to beat practice squad guys last night. Here’s hoping for the best Raider Nation.

It is amazing how perpetually the Raiders are always messed up. The Davis family are total idiots. Reminds me of the Adams Family. Good luck with your up and coming 3-13 season.

Gem? He was putting up numbers against guys that will be out of work, coaching high school football in two weeks.

This franchise is a disaster in every way. Poor talent. Poor coaching. Poor front office. Poor ownership. Terrible City.

All this talk about relocation, who would want this mess?

    0-16

That’s two weeks in a row Webster has flatten a QB. Last week it was Manziel that had the weak legs after getting laid out by Webster. Now if he can do that to That QB in Green Bay ans Chicago the Lions will be showins.

    Hahahahahaha!!!

And a pick-6 from Schlub proves for a 2nd week in a row, that McLovin is STILL your best QB!!

All that money for Schlub and Carr, and your best QB was right under your nose!!!

    LOSERS!!!
    —————-
Schaub threw into tight coverage. The pass hit the receiver’s hands, but the DB got a piece of it and and the safety picked it off. But he didn’t score on the play, so it’s not a pick-6. Take notes, loser.

My boys don’t look so good.
I know it’s the pre season, but you’d like to see the starters looking like a competent squad.
They don’t. They look like a bad football team.
Not what I expected with all the roster moves.
Maybe it’s just as well. Another season of crappy football will lessen the sting of another move.
And the secondary needs a new coach. Stat ….. They look like a poorly coached unit.
