Julius Thomas scores first touchdown at Levi’s Stadium

Trivia completists waiting to find out the first player to score a touchdown at Levi’s Stadium have their answer.

It was Broncos tight end Julius Thomas on a 17-yard pass from Peyton Manning with 11:45 left to play in the second quarter of the first game at the new home of the 49ers. Thomas’ touchdown and the ensuing extra point made it 10-0 Broncos after a pair of efficient drives down the field for the Denver starters.

Manning completed 12-of-14 passes for 102 yards and the touchdown to Thomas on the first two Denver possessions, with the only real blemish coming at the end of the first drive when an awkward Manning scramble and incompletion forced them to settle for a field goal in the red zone. Otherwise, it was a very easy and very familiar 127 yards on 21 plays for the defending AFC champs.

The 49ers also moved the ball on their first two possessions, picking up five first downs, but both drives stalled before they got deep into Broncos territory. Colin Kaepernick left the game having completed 5-of-9 passes for 39 yards in a performance that saw Kaepernick check down to second or third options after finding nothing open down the field.

But it would still be good to know who scores the first regular season TD, because if the question isn’t specific enough then your answer should be both names and with distinction.

Couple drops hurt the drives too, but watching Gabbert hurts a helluva a lot more. At least Vance Mcdonald seems to have worked hard at his catching concentration. That could be one of the most positive things for the offense going forward as much as the TE’s are used.

That 5 wide look is something I hope they do a lot of this year. Secondary needs work though…and please for the love of GOD cut Gabbert!

I must be watching a different game. I thought I saw Kap just miss Lloyd in the endzone on a deep pass and two missed field goals by Dawson.

But seriously, what’s with the design of the stands and boxes? Looks like a 40 year old facility already. Very strangely done Niner owner.

Odd, when the Broncos beat Seattle in the first preseason, by 5, when Seattle dropped the winning pass, in Denver and after being tied when it was 1s vs 1s despite missing 18 of our two deeps…

It’s preseason, who cares? I’m glad to see individual performances by the bottom half of the roster as they try to make the team, glad to see the first team offense looking like they did for the majority of the year last year and the defense looking good.

It’s too bad that two Broncos (Barrow and Robinson) look like they might have suffered serious injuries, and frankly avoiding injuries is the only result that matters during these games.

Of course Manning’s one TD had two first downs on penalties.

And you were mossing TWO players? Well why didn’t you say so? We were only missing 18 of our two deeps including every lineman but one. Beast, all starting LBs and Chancellor. But, hey, you were missing two players.

Pretty sure that was the 2013 season, the past is the past. Look at the Broncos roster for 2014 season compared to what the roster looked like in the Super Bowl. Everyone is healthy and they added a lot of great players, the Broncos are A LOT tougher and funny thing is people don’t realize it because they look at the past to much.

Actually think we’ll be much better.

Injuries are the key just as they are for everyone.

The defense may or may not be as good, but Harvin>>>Tate, and our speed will be way better than last year.

Defenses won’t be able to stack the box and Lynch and co. will have a big year.

Reality Check infant – I understand why Hawk fans are so classless about winning a SB – ESPECIALLY against their biggest dominators, the Denver Broncos. No other team has beaten the Squawks as many times as the Broncos have. They’ve played 52 games head-to-head and the Squawks have only won 18 of those encounters against their dominators. In fact, over the years, no other team has scored more points on the SeaChickens than the mighty Broncos – 1,222 to be precise. So maybe saying you guys are classless SB winners is unfair, maybe it’s just that you are sore losers?

    I know.

But what’s our records in Superbowl games?

What’s our record with Manning as QB?

    What’s our record THIS DECADE???

I bet you were really cool in high school. Too bad it had to end and the real world had to start

You got LUCKY. The other AFC West teams too got LUCKY, we were saddled from 1988 to 1996 by a bad carpetbagging SF-area owner, Ken Behring. Your team FEASTED on us with a bunch of cheap easy wins during that time. I suppose you gloat about that.

Your precious Horseface Elway didn’t have it so easy against us when the Nordstroms were the owners or when Chuck Knox was our coach. That Super Bowl THUMPING you experienced was well-deserved retribution for all those cheap Behring-era wins you ran up on us, and I’m happy that Horseface got to see it live now that we’re under better ownership :)

Wow! That Santa Clara team is off to a rough start!! Another piece of trivia…How many points did the Santa Clara 49ers score in their first game ever?! Umm, that answer is 0! Goose egg! Nada!! BAAhaaahaaaa!!!!

Denver is overrated just like they were overrated before getting blown out in SB48.

As a Niner fan that was embarrassing. ..pre season yes but please score a touchdown….Seahawk fans…in all honesty I think you guys comment more on Niners articles then your own…No true Niner fan takes your team or your po dunk lame town seriously. .I know its hard being in our shadow but our rivals are the Cowboys and the Packers not you lame turds from a lame city..Your quest to be relevent is obvious to everyone..One SB in 50 years congrats guys now run off to camping world theres a huge sale on flannels and hiking boots..Even when we lose we move the needle more then you..I know its tough being the fan of a second class team in a second class city…but hey it is what it is..Are you just mad cause Santa Clara is just another city 99% of Americans would rather live in than podunk Seattle……???? Keep trying posers

I know that this may not make financial sense but I think it would be alot more special if the new stadiums didn’t play preseason games and the first real time we see it is during the regular season.

Sure, it is preseason and premature. But the Broncs have just beat the two best teams of the NFC!

Your record is Super Bowls? Your record is still 1-1. That means in 40 years….you’ve been there twice. No wonder you guys can’t act like you’ve been there before, you haven’t.

  99. broncostevenp says: Aug 18, 2014 7:04 AM

Reality…..You are counting on Percy Harvin? Really? REALLY? That’s funny man, you need a dose of your own name. The Reality is Harvin is bi-polar. Notice you never hear anything about his migraines? Why is that? You should feel blessed if he plays 5 games this year.

You may discount the final result because it’s preseason, but everyone in Santa Clara should be concerned about the team’s lack of ability to score points. You have one FG to show for 2 games.

Scrimmages stats don’t go into the record books.

The difference in the history between the Seahawks and say The Detroit lions?

    One game.

  103. Dogsweat says: Aug 18, 2014 1:40 PM

Raider fans cant wait to destroy the new stadium in Santa Clara.

43 – 8 = The ratio of Seahacks fans to hometowners in any given football chat forum.

  105. thirtyrackdash says: Aug 18, 2014 5:25 PM

Still no touchdowns for the 49ers huh? They’ll get one against the Chargers maybe. And then a 49 will have the 5th TD ever in Pants Town.
