Falcons make the move, set their tackle rotation

As they begin to ponder a season without another injured starter, the Falcons have made the expected move.

According to D. Orlando Ledbetter of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, they’re moving rookie tackle Jake Matthews to the left, and putting Lamar Holmes back on the right.

Holmes started 15 games last year for the Falcons, and Matthews was a natural left tackle in college, so there’s nothing surprising about the decision.

But it does deplete an area the Falcons have tried to build this offseason, and creates long-term questions about Sam Baker’s future.

With a pair of seasons lost to knee injuries and a big contract, Matthews playing well this year could make him expendable, such that using the sixth overall pick on a blocker didn’t already.

The Falcons are about to find out the hard way that Jake Matthews isn’t all he’s cracked up to be. His name got him drafted higher than he should have. He was nowhere near dominant at Texas A&M.

Falcons are a joke. Just fold the franchise.

I’ve been reading this site and comments section for a long time. I truly don’t understand the venomous reactions. My closest friends are Saints fans and we’ve stayed friends for close to 36 years. Some of you Falcons and Saints fans need some home training.

    Falcons are irrelevant. As usual.

That stinks for Sam Baker but in all honesty, he had no business being a starting NFL LT even before he got hurt. His whole career with the Falcons has pretty much been a desperate attempt to justify way overdrafting him. If there is any silver lining for Falcons fans, it is that it forced management’s hand into making personnel changes that should have been done last year already.

LAMAR HOLMES, hahaha…exactly what every other team in the NFC South was hoping for. That guy last season played like Matt Ryan hit on his wife.
