As they begin to ponder a season without another injured starter, the Falcons have made the expected move.

According to D. Orlando Ledbetter of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, they’re moving rookie tackle Jake Matthews to the left, and putting Lamar Holmes back on the right.

Holmes started 15 games last year for the Falcons, and Matthews was a natural left tackle in college, so there’s nothing surprising about the decision.

But it does deplete an area the Falcons have tried to build this offseason, and creates long-term questions about Sam Baker’s future.

With a pair of seasons lost to knee injuries and a big contract, Matthews playing well this year could make him expendable, such that using the sixth overall pick on a blocker didn’t already.
