Falcons sign veteran tackle Pat McQuistan

The Falcons had to make some moves to account for the loss of left tackle Sam Baker, and they needed to make some roster moves as well.

Per the league’s transaction wire, the Falcons have signed veteran tackle Pat McQuistan to fill the spot created by putting Baker on injured reserve.

McQuistan originally entered the league with the Cowboys, their seventh-rounder in 2006. He’s also spent time with the Dolphins, Titans, Saints, Cardinals and Jaguars.

He’s solid enough for depth, part of the reason he did two stints with the Cowboys and Titans.

As much as they hate losing Baker, they should be able to recover. Matthews is a natural left tackle, and new right tackle Lamar Holmes is a bigger body for the right side, who will benefit from playing next Jon Asamoah.

He looks like Terry Bradshaw. Especially the hair.

Someone clearly has no idea how badly Lamar Holmes played on the O-line last year. Nothing on this Earth is going to benefit that human turnstile.

If you’re signing ‘This McQuistan”, you are officially desparate.

Holmes was thrown into the fire last year b/c of Mike Johnson’s injury whom was the projected starter. He definitely was not ready. I think with that experience + Mike Tice he will be much improved this season.

You mean the same Mike Tice responsible for some of the worst Bears O-Lines in a generation? OK, keep thinking that.

Well, in Tice’s defense, he was dealt a hand that included J’Marcus Webb, Gabe Carimi, Chris Williams, etc. Not sure any OL coach could’ve succeeded with those washouts.

“In Holmes’ defense,” “in Mike Tice’s defense,” LOL…always love it when other teams in the defense have players and coaches with that immediately preceding their history.

A defense for Tice when he was with the Bears? That’s easy: Mike Martz was the offensive coordinator.

As for Holmes, he looked good this pre-season.

No one benefits by playing next to Jon Asamoah. He’s a complete stiff. That’s why he lost his job last year to a journeyman like Jeff Schwartz.

That’s actually the same Mike Tice that gave the Vikings one of the best OLs in late half of the 90′s.

Holmes may do better this year. Mainly because he won’t have to protect Ryan’s blindside. Or should I say Ryan will do better this year. Because Holmes isn’t protecting his blindside.
