Rob Gronkowski participates in 11-on-11 work for first time

AP

While several injured players were making their return to Patriots practice on Monday, tight end Rob Gronkowski was taking another step forward in his own return from a torn ACL.

Gronkowski participated in 11-on-11 drills for the first time since training camp opened last month. Mike Reiss of ESPNBoston.com reports that a lot of balls were thrown Gronkowski’s way during that period of practice.

Recent reports out of New England are that Gronkowski is anything but a lock to play in the team’s first regular season game. Given the amount of time Gronkowski missed the last two seasons and the impact his absence had on the team, it would be no surprise to see them exercise plenty of caution before signing off on a spot on the gameday roster.

Still, 11-on-11 work is as close to game action as Gronkowski will get this offseason so it’s an important step closer to to his and the Patriots’ goal.

  1. Even an unfit Gronk is better than most TEs a top 5 TE when healthy no question the gold standard of TEs check his 1st 2 out of 4 seasons last 2 seasons have been injury riddled though gotta stay healthy

  2. Gronk had a spark when he started but now he’s just garbage. He’ll be out for the season by week 4. Games missed over the last two season…Gronkowski 16. JImmy Graham 1

  3. Can you imagine what a healthy Gronk is going to do to the AFC in the playoffs?

I sure can — rupture another body part halfway through the first quarter.

No… nobody can. Because he’ll be hurt by then.

  5. Wow, an inordinate amount of hate in this NE Pats post … is it mostly trolls or just hate.

IMO it’s mostly envy … when healthy Gronk is the top complete TE in the NFL.

Fear … if he stays healthy this season, it will impact felt throughout the NFL

Remember don’t hate, just appreciate the performance of these elite athletes while you can.

    Cheers

  6. Man this guy has had some bad luck but he does play the game hard.

I have to say that Pats articles are trolled even harder than Steeler articles. Jealousy is the purest form of flattery I guess.

  7. To the jets fan in the room. Jace Amaro is only a recieving TE. He couldnt block to save his life. That means he wont be on the field in running formations. Gronk could play half a season and have more impact than a 1 dimensional player like Amaro.

    Crawfish,

You do realize Gronk has more touch downs than Graham.

  9. I got Gronked last year… not a good thing. Now he’s “anything but a lock” for Week 1??? No thanks this year at his current ADP.

That said, this guy is every bit as valuable, or more, than Jimmy Graham when he’s healthy. I’d sure like to see a full 16 games out of him this year – his numbers would be INSANE!

  10. There is no such thing as “A healthy Gronk”
Gronk will continue to suffer assorted injuries.
The juice catches up to everybody.

  11. YOU: “Gronk is garbage. Hes a fragile, and he is on the decline. The Patriots can keep him because hes going to suck this year”

Sportscenter breaking news in back ground: “This just in Rob Gronkowski has been traded to YOUR team”

    YOU: “SUPERBOWL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”

  12. The Patriots haters who must constantly stalk this site for any mention of the Patriots are hilarious

They get even funnier when they assert that the Patriots violation of a new, obscure 2006 rule in 2007 invalidates all previous Super Bowls because Belichick (and other coaches) violated a rule that didn’t even exist then

They are at their funniest when they assert that if the Patriots were cheating they’d have won every Super Bowl since 2007 – and that the Patriots, with the best record in football since 2007 including the first 16-0 season “can’t win without cheating”

I guess that’s as good as it gets for you as a fan when you’re a fan of a pathetic team like the Vikings, Jets, etc.

  13. Hey what does Vegas have as the Over/Under on when this China Doll will get hurt? I’m not sure he’ll make it out of preseason, but I want to know what the betting pros say…

The Patriots are basically last year’s Steelers. They’re old, fat, and slow. And they won’t make the playoffs.

    Lame

Glad to see him playing 11 on 11 drills.

That means pretty soon it will be 10 on 11 drills.

And pretty soon, ray rice will knock his wife out again.

The Jets are basically last years Jets. And last year’s Jets were the same as the year before, and so on and so on all the way back to 1969. They still suck.

  17. I really hope he can put a full season together.

I love watching him drag 3 guys 10 yards downfield.

It’s that giant size, I believe, that contributes to being injury prone. It’s unnatural.

This guy is so fragile. Jace Amaro >>> Rob “2 games and down” Gronk

    ———

Here’s what Jace Amaro has done:

  19. Here’s what Gronk has done the last two yrs:

    18 gms/1400 yrds/15Tds. While being a good blocker. That’s a career for ave TEs.

Meanwhile the jets are transitioning from Amaro looking like a bust to hoping he can play in the league.

  20. Open letter to all Pats haters, and I know you are many:

The fact that you are out in such profusion with 2 weeks to go until the season starts indicates that

    1) you are probably nervous about the upcoming season – you should be.

    2) Mom and dad have kicked you out of the basement for a week so they can clean up the mess you’ve made. (You’re too busy to help)

MEANWHILE – we Pats lovers are stocking up on our wine and cheese for the upcoming festivities, while you are stocking up on your whine. (get it?)

I certainly would not want you to think that we don’t appreciate the witticisms you throw our way, and we fully intend to be as arrogant and obnoxious this season as in the past – we don’t want to let you down.

I close as always, with a request that will be 98% ignored – when you come on line to take a shot at us or our team, let us know what team you root for, so we can exchange pleasantries.

  21. Can Gronk videotape from the sidelines?

    —-

    I hope he can.

A sideline video would be a fantastic perspective for us fans to have the privilege of watching the soon to be Super Bowl 49 champion New England patriots, with the greatest QB and coach in the history of the sport working their craft. What a treat that would be.

Wow! What a PRIVILEGE to witness greatness that is the New England Patriots, the rulers of the NFL in this century and already winners of more SB titles in the last 20 years than any other NFL team, and about to win another this year. You all should feel lucky we are all here to witness this greatness.

Now GET ON YOUR KNEES punks and BOW down to the Patriots. You WILL give the rulers of the NFL this century and King Belichick the respect that they deserve.
