NFL did not fine Tharold Simon after ejection

tharoldsimon AP

Seahawks cornerback Tharold Simon was ejected from the team’s preseason opener for punching Broncos tight end Gerell Robinson, but Simon got off without any punishment from the league office.

The NFL confirmed to PFT that Simon was not fined for the punch.

The league office doesn’t offer explanations when players aren’t fined, but this is a surprise: The officials were right on top of it and ejected Simon immediately, and ordinarily that would result in a fine as well. And although players aren’t paid their base salaries during the preseason, the NFL rules on fines are the same for the preseason as for the regular season.

Apparently the league decided that Simon’s hit to Robinson’s facemask wasn’t serious enough to merit any further punishment. Simon got off easy.

Maybe it was soft like the Packers defense?

Tharold? Is that a cross between Thad and Harold? Probably didn’t fine because of his name.

This guy’s a desciple of Sherman. So his actions and lack of disciplinary action from the league come as no surprise to anyone.

That from a guy whose team gave up a league worst 30pts a game last year and could only best the Cowboys in yards allowed?

    Funny.

They don’t have to say anything, we can just infer what the message is.

Maybe they didn’t fine him because he received a push to the chest first, so perhaps there is now leeway to allow one financially-free punch if somebody else starts it first. I think the rules will be more clear after we see what happens with future punching accidents if there happens to be more.

interceptions called TDs. Allowed to hold and PI an entire season. PED’s running through the locker room like pain pills. no fines for being ejected form a game for punching. It’s confirmed, Pete the Cheat has naked pictures of Goodell.

yes of course!. He’s a relatively new Seahawk so he *must* be using Adderrall. #yawn

The end of 2013 is a good place to start because that was the year of Seattle’s Superbowl run.

  17. ytrappin504 says: Aug 19, 2014 6:53 PM

Jimmy graham got fined 33,000 dollars for dunking twice while this moron attacked another player and got nothing? NFL is treading on dangerous water by playing favorites when it comes to disciplinary actions. Image how many people would of lost interest by now if there were no such thing as fantasy football.

Just googled it, found a great close-up pic and replay sequence, and yeah…it was a fully open-handed shove, not a punch.

He certainly could have still been fined, but I assume there were extenuating circumstances that the league took into consideration…what those circumstances were, we may never know.

But I’m guessing Robinson said a particular something that could have gotten him one of those “point of emphasis” flags.

Like a couple guys previously stated, it’s VERY convenient that you chose to begin with just THIS offseason till week 2 of Preseason..Haha why don’t you give those “Haters” the Breakdown since, let’s say 2011? Or may be Start that list the year Pete came into town(idk what yr that was,for all I know it very well could be”11?) but just give an “UpDated List” of that breakdown….Very serious, I found that post Comical how you started 2013-knowing the Seahawks past problems. BTW I’m not a Seattle “Hater”, or a Fan.

You do realize that the Cowboys don’t play in Dallas, the Bills don’t play in Buffalo, the Jets/Giants don’t play in NYC, the Redskins don’t play in D.C right?

Oh that’s right, the 2012th man just started watching football and are the most obnoxious bandwagoners the League has ever seen.

  28. crownofthehelmet says: Aug 19, 2014 9:12 PM

Too bad Jeramy Stevens didn’t put up as much of a fight in the SB. Then maybe the Steelers wouldn’t have embarrassed them.

  29. kneeryan says: Aug 19, 2014 9:13 PM

Perhaps the league is calling it even after they took away a 105 yard pick six on a terrible call. It is just the preseason but when a guy is trying to make his way up the depth chart things like that hurt players. Call it even.

  30. kneeryan says: Aug 19, 2014 9:15 PM

Do you all realize the Giants and Broncos have more PED suspensions than the Hawks since the Hawks had their issues? They have cleaned their problems up.

“Oh that’s right, the 2012th man just started watching football and are the most obnoxious bandwagoners the League has ever seen.”

I can see you’re bitter. It’s understandable. It must really suck that your every enemy is smarter than you, and all you’ve got are desperate, spurious narratives that you copped from one of your brethren half-wits.

Winning the Super Bowl was awesome for Seahawks fans. But the relentless anguish and pain crudely expressed by the Niner faithful day after day comes in a close second.

Teams which I will enjoy watching lose this season:

    1 Denver. 10-6
    2 Jets. 4 – 12
    3 Seattle. 12-4
    4 Washington. 6 – 10
    5 Texans. 3 – 13
    6 San Francisco. 9 – 7
    7 ravens 9 -7
    8 Jets. 3 – 13
    9 Jets 2 – 14

    Dunk the football = fine
    Punch another player = nothing

There you go… Seattle now has a 13th man and it’s called Goodell! Hahaha.

Seattle is the biggest joke in the league. One and Done!

  36. thisorganicmoment says: Aug 20, 2014 2:59 AM

Not including the 2014 Players, since Carroll has became a coach in 2010, he’s had what research puts him at 170 different players on his 53 Man Rosters/I.R. or Players Under Team Control.

This does not include PS players.

5 ped suspension out of 170 players = 3% of players under Carroll.

Allen Barbe is no longer with the team, I don’t hear you detractors calling the Eagles cheaters for signing him.

John Moffitt is no longer with the team, I don’t hear you detractors calling the Broncos cheaters for trading for him.

Brandon Browner is no longer with team, I don’t hear you detractors calling the Patriots cheaters for signing him.

Winston Guy is no longer with team, I don’t hear you detractors calling the Jaguars cheaters for claiming him.

So that leaves Bruce Irvin, who was suspended in May 2013, which probably meant he failed his drug test in February. So by the time he was cleared to play at the end of October, Bruce Irvin had to pass at least 70 drug tests, by the time, he played in the Superbowl it was well over 100.

Being that Browner didn’t play the last 7 games of the season, those using the PED narrative and trying to paint the Seahawks Champion as cheaters, just look like a bunch of sore losers.

And I see a couple of Broncos fans joining in, I think you guys need to check the mirror before you accuse another team of cheating with PED use.

Man, this place has the most unintelligent fans on the planet.

    !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Obviously Pete Carroll has some damaging video on Roger Goodell.

Either that, or Roger is getting soft in his old age and now realizes that fining and suspending players is hitting his owners in the wallet as well.

  39. broncostevenp says: Aug 20, 2014 11:02 AM

Interesting that you leave off Sherman from that list. Just because of a technicality. Dude has his suspension OVERTURNED, but he was facing a suspension. He just had great lawyers, and Josh Gordon thanks him for that.

As smart and observant Pete Carroll obviously is, I find it curious that he didn’t know that Reggie Bush and family were cheating, and that his entire secondary was using Adderall.

  40. salutethis says: Aug 21, 2014 11:40 AM

Just got done watching another preseason game. Thanks Seattle… That mentality of hold on every play, don’t worry, they won’t call every penalty thing may have gotten you a Super Bowl… But the whole league is dealing with the result of your cheating mindset. Talk all you want, but without holding you never get to the big game. If this defense is really as good as you’ve been crowing all off season then let’s see this happen again WITHOUT breaking rules for a edge!
