Steelers bring back Brett Keisel after he snubs Arizona

Keisel AP

Well, now we know why longtime Steelers defensive end Brett Keisel turned down the Cardinals’ generous offer to come out for a visit.

Because he’s a Steeler again.

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, Keisel has agreed to return to the Steelers for a 13th season.

The move is a win-win, as Keisel lends some stability to a defensive line that lost some parts this offseason, and the timing kept him from having to go to training camp.

Any veteran will welcome that, and now the Steelers are welcoming Keisel home, and it only took using the Cardinals for a little leverage to get it done.

The Steelers are becoming a nursing home for aging players.

The Cardinals will need to sign Bill Leavy to attract aging Steelers.

Glad to see him back in the black and gold. Welcome home diesel. Look forward to another year of you wreaking havoc and seeing the awesome beard

Kiesel can still play and they need a veteran like him on the defensive line. He can also mentor the young guys.

  6. jmblosser82 says: Aug 19, 2014 6:19 PM

aceakking, not a starter. The average offense age is 26 and the defense is 27.

  7. laxcoach37 says: Aug 19, 2014 6:20 PM

Not a Steelers Fan, but who doesn’t love this guy! We should all be so lucky to have had a long productive career and to be able to hide food in our beards for when we are hungry. (Trading Places movie reference).

  8. In Teddy We Trust says: Aug 19, 2014 6:21 PM

Sounds like they had a little agreement behind the scenes that Kiesel could skip training camp. Sounds like another Brett I used to know.

I am a steelers fan. sometimes i write to criticize personnel moves that i disagree with. However, I AM VERY HAPPY to have Brett Keisel back!! He’s good

The aging Steelers? I think they only have 4 starters over the age of 30. Ben, Troy, Ike, Kiesel

Brett will be in camp as soon as he is able to finalize travel arrangements from Mt. Olympus to Pittsburgh. He was told “Head downhill, as far as you can go…”.

How many times has this guy said he was going to retire?

  17. gsteelers74 says: Aug 19, 2014 6:26 PM

Good signing he will be a good mentor for the youngsters on the DL and add good depth… Let’s Go Steelers… Lol…

  18. rohinaz says: Aug 19, 2014 6:27 PM

LOL cards arent going anywhere? You must be lost in the steeler glory days. Other than linebackers, cardinals are better than steelers at every position.

  19. aceakking says: Aug 19, 2014 6:30 PM

Brett Dude, is that a pop corn or is that a mouse in your beard?

  20. cheffyglenn says: Aug 19, 2014 6:32 PM

I’m very Happy having DeBeard back!! Brett will be a great teammate for Tuitt and McClendon to learn from. We might be a little older now, but were also a lot more wiseable. Couldn’t be happier! Well only if the Silverback James Harrison gets signed to help give the line backers some knowledge and attitude.

  21. bigswifty74 says: Aug 19, 2014 6:33 PM

As a Browns fan, (and I know I’m going to regret saying this), but this is a smart move. A good veteran presence who, in my opinion, only came back to lay a few hits on JFF!

  22. ericbleedspurple says: Aug 19, 2014 6:34 PM

Steelers are bums. They’ll be insignificant in the AFC North this season.

Haters gonna hate but the Diesel will make them pay.

The only downside is having a young player lose a spot on the roster because of his signing.

  27. tolan04 says: Aug 19, 2014 6:40 PM

Weren’t steelers fans just attacking him in the previous article?

Report comment. Judging from your comments here and on other threads your trip to success is much longer than the Steelers and Brett. Also he has some hardware you got in Madden but his is a ring made of metal yours is plastic from a CrackerJack box. Ravens last year the Hawks now….Justin Beiber is next?

  31. jmblosser82 says: Aug 19, 2014 6:47 PM

rohinaz, Palmer is worse, your RBs are worse, the WR corp is probably even. The defense took major hits. The Steelers look to be in better position.

  32. bestinafcnorth says: Aug 19, 2014 6:49 PM

You idiots that keep playing the old age jokes are in for a big surprise. Only 2 starters over 30. GO STEELERS.

  33. steelcurtainn says: Aug 19, 2014 6:52 PM

Great last minute signing. The “Diesel” knows the deal. Stay with the Real Pittsburgh Team not the one aka the cardinals (P-West). He will be valuable in teaching these young DL(Tuitt) the tricks of his trade. Time to “FEAR THE Beard” again people.

I’m glad to see him back. I hate it when Steeler greats have to go end their career someplace else. The worst was when we dumped Rod Woodson, HOF and Joey Porter. I imagine the marketing value of both #99 & #43 offset a good chunk of their pay.

yep aging steelers. 3 guys on defense over 30 , 2 starters 3 guys on offense, 2 starters. this being old crap is old. sounds like warren sapp garbage. he will play around 15-20 snaps a game and hopefully break flaccos leg.

He’s old, slow and just not that good anymore. I’m sure glad the Card’s weren’t dumb enough to sign that Caveman!

  48. jackericsson says: Aug 19, 2014 8:41 PM

I knew they would sign him. But thought it would happen after week one to avoid the guaranteed contract. Love the signing but that eliminates mauro. And for those repeating old and slow- you must be smoking the same stuff warren does. The team is getting younger, even with the beard added back in.

  49. rajbais says: Aug 19, 2014 9:00 PM

Yay!!! Now it’s time to bring back James Harrison!!!

Dump chris Carter!!! Sean Spence seems like a good dude, but his career may
Not even launch with his injury history.

  57. holeinone09 says: Aug 20, 2014 8:18 AM

VERY happy about Brett coming back! He was playing pretty well at the end of last year. In this preseason, the Steelers run defense has been weak. The entire defense has become very young, and having a grizzly veteran or two (or three) will only help. Like Brett, Troy and Ike. They can mentor folks like Ryan who looks like a beast in the making. Brett should retire as a Steeler.

Can we please just start the season??!!

  58. enoughofthatalready says: Aug 20, 2014 8:49 AM

I am happy to see Keisel back but if the Steelers have to rely on him to start, there should be some concern about the other guys. My thinking is that Cam Thomas is still adjusting to the new scheme and that Truitt needs more time and Keisel was signed to help in their development. McClendon looks to be the starting NT, McCullers looks lost and there is nobody else really after that besides maybe Nick Williams. Harrison will not be signed back. The Steelers have way too many linebackers right now.

  59. enoughofthatalready says: Aug 20, 2014 8:52 AM

Rod Woodson was indicted into the Hall of Fame as a Steeler and I believe that Joey Porter technically retired as a Steeler before taking a coaching job. The worst was when Franco Harris played for the Seahawks.
