Bell didn’t make trip to Philly with Steelers

Bell AP

Early Wednesday afternoon, Steelers running backs Le’Veon Bell and LeGarrette Blount had a brush with the law that resulted in an allegation of marijuana possession for both of them, and a DUI charge for Bell.

Later in the day, the Steelers left for a preseason game in Philadelphia.  According to Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Bell didn’t make the trip.

A second-round pick in 2013, Bell is expected to be the starting tailback this year.  Other players will get opportunities to carry the ball in Bell’s absence.

  3. tedmurph says: Aug 20, 2014 9:29 PM

Pats would probably trade Steven Ridley to the steelers, except I don’t think there’s anyone on the steeler’s roster the Pats would want.

  6. realityonetwo says: Aug 20, 2014 9:39 PM

They should make Bell play well into the fourth quarter against the scrubs, like Pettine did to Josh Gordon.

  7. thegreatgabbert says: Aug 20, 2014 9:40 PM

Oh well, no Bell tolls crossing the bridge, at least.

  8. jxt2521 says: Aug 20, 2014 9:45 PM

In my day the steelers did steroids and coke but they never got caught they just got cheap Super Bowl wins.

  9. rgiiiandxiii says: Aug 20, 2014 9:46 PM

Bell was still higher than the team plane.

I’ll never understand professional athletes smoking and drinking in public or riding dirty.

  12. juanweiner says: Aug 20, 2014 10:00 PM

Thats because he is an IDIOT and should be left in the locker room all season! Geeze!!!

  13. tebowbrokesteelers says: Aug 20, 2014 10:03 PM

Tebowed out of the playoffs years ago the steelers have o winning seasons and o playoff appearances. The steelers were high on their RBs this year no pun intended!

  14. Eutaw's Finest says: Aug 20, 2014 10:04 PM

Steelers have seen Pouncey charged with assault from a night club incident and now these two knuckle heads. 3 players to the Ravens 4. Somebody’s playing catch up…

  15. Wineshard says: Aug 20, 2014 10:09 PM

This sucks. Just when it looked like the Steelers running game might come out of the sewer this happens.

I guess more facts will come to light, but it is not good. Geez.

  16. clashpoint says: Aug 20, 2014 10:12 PM

    Ah crap. Well this sucks.
Time to see the running back depth I guess.

  18. punterturnedpiratelouieaguiarrr says: Aug 20, 2014 10:15 PM

Brilliant move by Blount to get the starter in big trouble so he could grab more carries. Well played, Mr. Blount, well played.

  21. officialgame says: Aug 20, 2014 10:58 PM

    He got blunted by Blount.

  22. laxer37 says: Aug 20, 2014 11:05 PM

Jason LaCaforna is reporting that Blount was not arrested. That is why he made the trip and Bell did not.

The bigger story is that the two were on their way to catch the team plane to Philly. Would Bell really be that stupid to be high on the team plane in front of coaches, ownership, and front office personnel? Amazing.

  23. nickinneohio says: Aug 20, 2014 11:12 PM

But Blount did? He must have the weed.

  24. dadplumberawesome says: Aug 20, 2014 11:12 PM

I’m a regular dude with a house, family, job and I manage to not get DUI’s and busted smoking dope. But if I was in NFL I’m pretty sure the first thing I’d do is F it up.

  25. couchpotatodad says: Aug 20, 2014 11:17 PM

Tough punishment… Bell has to sit out a preseason game, half of which he would have been sitting out anyhow. Way to go, Coach!

  26. f1restarter says: Aug 20, 2014 11:23 PM

He probably couldn’t remember where the plane was.

  27. aceakking says: Aug 20, 2014 11:28 PM

Our source close to the situation reports that Bell is visiting Bill Leavy’s residence to bribe him for the next Super Bowl.

  28. thegreatgabbert says: Aug 20, 2014 11:35 PM

LeVeon, LeGarrette, and le blunt were driving in a car… have you heard this one before?

  29. everyonesuksbutme says: Aug 20, 2014 11:36 PM

  30. j0esixpack says: Aug 20, 2014 11:55 PM

Let the dude fly with the team

The last thing we want is him DRIVING to Philly!

  31. rekroot says: Aug 21, 2014 12:01 AM

That’s what happens when you get caught driving the bus with a Blount

  32. aceakking says: Aug 21, 2014 12:05 AM

Everything will be OK for the Steelers as long as Bill Leavy made the trip.

  33. zam0854 says: Aug 21, 2014 12:44 AM

What a joke and a fraud!! Typical Steeler!

  34. vaughnjoe says: Aug 21, 2014 1:11 AM

Why not smoke your weed and drink at home?? These guys have huge extravagant houses. Why drive around like a couple high school kids??

  35. steelcurtainn says: Aug 21, 2014 1:24 AM

I have to blame blount for all of this. Up to this point Le’veon Bell has been clean from his college days to the NFL. You have a case of where small brother looks up to big brother in doing some things they shouldn’t be doing. Good wake up call for both of these guys. They’ll get there one game suspension opening day and then in a month it will be all blown over and won’t ever happen again. Mark it down!

  36. eagleseagleseagles says: Aug 21, 2014 1:51 AM

Ring the Bell and smoke a Blount.

  37. RegisHawk says: Aug 21, 2014 4:50 AM

So they left Bell, but took the Blount? Figures.

  38. coachbeck says: Aug 21, 2014 5:29 AM

Here we go steelers here we go

    Lol

  39. floriospftflunkies says: Aug 21, 2014 6:46 AM

of course not, he was out getting baked

  40. denverdude7 says: Aug 21, 2014 7:15 AM

    Thanks Le’Veon… you jackwagon.

You were my starting RB on my fantasy team.

You just had to toke up on the way to the airport didn’t you? Geez, even I know better than to bring weed with me to an airport. What a moron !!!

  41. clashpoint says: Aug 21, 2014 7:28 AM

Now to be accurate, Bell didn’t get a dui for alcohol, it’s due to that big bag of weed that was riding in the car next to him. Both the possession and dui in this case are misdemeanors, and he’s managed to never test positive for anything, so this is first offense territory at the worst. I’ll even throw him a half point for taking all the potential heat away from his copilot, Blount, by taking credit for the bag. This certainly isn’t a career ending episode, I think attitudes towards marijuana have changed a lot in the last few years, and are well on their way to changing even more. Rightfully so.

All that said, he’s an absolute idiot for getting caught.

  42. ialwayswantedtobeabanker says: Aug 21, 2014 7:31 AM

“Other players will get opportunities to carry the ball in Bell’s absence.”

    Thank you, Captain Obvious.

  43. greymares says: Aug 21, 2014 8:10 AM

Regular season suspension will be forth coming.

  44. teal379 says: Aug 21, 2014 8:23 AM

Remember all the talk about how the Steelers made a much better choice than selecting Lacy in the draft?

    About that, um yeah…..

  45. tinytoolalldrool says: Aug 21, 2014 8:25 AM

They had a woman with them and all three admitted to joint ownership of the pot. It was under 30 grams so it is considered a misdemeanor in Pa. Give them both a sixteen game suspension lmao.

  46. 123456ui says: Aug 21, 2014 8:40 AM

    LeVeon bowl
    LeGarrette blunt

  47. themeccalambeaufield says: Aug 21, 2014 8:59 AM

So glad Lacy is with the 13 World Champs more talent and obviously more brains.

  48. stillers213 says: Aug 21, 2014 9:32 AM

Lay off the greens boys, or at least roll the damn windows up!

To the earlier point about Bell being high in front of Steeler mgmt… Do you really think most of these guys wear sunglasses indoors just to be cool?

  49. smackingfools says: Aug 21, 2014 10:07 AM

Wish my probation drug test were as easy to beat as the NFL’s.

  50. crownofthehelmet says: Aug 21, 2014 10:08 AM

Even if he’s suspended some games, Bell will still be more productive than oft-injured Lacy.

  51. crownofthehelmet says: Aug 21, 2014 10:09 AM

The bigger travesty is that Bell drives a Camaro.

  52. richardmswartz says: Aug 21, 2014 5:48 PM

Weed ought be legal, but really not in the car, that’s not cool.

  53. nickfoliandynamite40 says: Aug 21, 2014 6:07 PM

Le’Veon Bell will forever be known as the only RB in NFL history to roll a perfect LeGarrette Blount.

  54. thehorsecavalry says: Aug 22, 2014 5:02 PM

Stupidest Millionaire Show Contestant Bell needs an off the field Nanny or Manager. That goes for ANY professional Sports Star making over one million dollars needs an assigned Nanny for 2 years.

If I was an owner I would demand it as part of their compensation package. An owner wants the players in the game, not in jail. The Nanny clause should be included in all Pro-sports contract. These people are immature and need to be controlled in public.
