Geno Atkins is ready to make his preseason debut

The Bengals are about to get one of their best players back on the field.

According to Coley Harvey of ESPN.com, defensive tackle Geno Atkins is scheduled to play a few series Sunday against the Cardinals.

Atkins, who tore his ACL on Oct. 31, was activated from PUP at the start of camp but didn’t play in the first two games.

Having him back’s a huge deal for us,” defensive coordinator Paul Guenther said. “It’s good to see him back. It definitely means a big deal to us.

“I’m sure he’s ready to get back and get his confidence up. I’m sure he’s anxious to get back in there and play with the guys.”

Atkins was off to another great start last year, with 6.0 sacks before going down with the knee injury in Week Nine. Getting him back will obviously be a big boost for the Bengals defense, as few players can create the kind of interior push Atkins can when he’s well.

  1. Best D-Lineman in the NFL folks….he doesn’t go down last year & we’re arguably talking about how many SB’s the Bengals will win!

Hey buddy you need to crawl before you walk. Win a playoff game and your walking. He may be great but a Dalton isn’t in the clutch ….but hey it’s the Bungals

  2. They are winless in the playoffs since 1990 with him, and they are winless in the playoffs since 1990 without him… Ditto for prime time games… Incidentally the Browns won a playoff game in 94′, and we had our team ripped for 3 years… Who dey? Nobody… p.s. – You guys should have your team relocated for not selling out your playoff game last year…

  3. Not only is Geno the best defensive lineman on the field, he is also one of the best off the field as well. We need more players like him and A.J. in the league. They come in, do their jobs and end up being one of the best ever at their positions.

  4. Great news. Hope he gets to knock some of the rust off before the regular season begins. When he’s healthy, nobody is better.

That being said, I won’t really be excited until Dalton wins a game when it really matters. I mean, yes, he’s 0-3 in the playoffs, but he was also putrid in all 3 games!

  5. The excellent defense, Geno’s return, all will be for naught if Andy Dalton continues to collapse and turn the ball over in the playoffs. If Dalton could simply play football at an average level instead of Chernobyl, the Bengals easily would have been in the AFC Championship the past two seasons- it’s not like their defense gave up a whole lot of points in the playoffs.

You mad Bro? Funny how a Cleveland fan can come onto a blog and talk about a win less team!? Irony anyone? Who Dey…certainly not Cleveland, that’s for damn sure! By the way, your new QB just peed a little when he saw this headline. Good luck in the Factory of Sadness, I hear they’re hiring. You should probably apply!
    IF IT”S BROWN…FLUSH IT DOWN!
