Steelers’ Le’Veon Bell and LeGarrette Blount both arrested

The Steelers’ top two running backs were arrested together today.

Le’Veon Bell and LeGarrette Blount, Pittsburgh’s first- and second-string running backs, were in a car together and stopped by Ross Township Police this afternoon. Detective Brian Kohlhepp of the Ross Police Department tells PFT that a motorcycle officer smelled marijuana smoke coming from the car and pulled it over. Police found a baggy containing about 20 grams of marijuana in the car.

Both Bell and Blount are expected to be charged with possession of marijuana. Bell is also expected to be charged with driving under the influence. An unidentified female in the car is also expected to be charged with possession of marijuana. According to police, all three people in the car admitted that the marijuana belonged to all of them.

The Steelers took Bell in the second round of last year’s draft, and he won the starting job as a rookie. He carried 244 times for 860 yards and eight touchdowns last year.

Blount signed with the Steelers this offseason after spending last year in New England, where he had 772 yards and seven touchdowns on 153 carries.

Bell and Blount could both now be subject to league discipline, but likely not until the case is resolved.

WHY do all these millionaire athletes have to smoke weed out and about in their cars?

Sit at home, or out back of their house and use this stuff.

So many are either smoking it or have it in their possession in their cars.

If they get stopped for a traffic violation and their weed is AT HOME, they are OK.

Yeah, I know they have to get it, but that may be worked around too.

All these guys that do this and get caught are dumb on multiple levels…

  63. aljack88 says: Aug 20, 2014 8:09 PM

They most likely won’t see any NFL punishment during this season. The NFL won’t issue anything until after the case is done in court. I’m sure the Rooney influence will get the case delayed for a few months a couple of times…..Unless the team makes the right move and imposes it’s own penalty (which they probably can’t because of some clause in the PBA).

I could not agree more whole heartedly, may I reccomend it be named the “Senior NFL” or “NFL Old-Timers Circuit”? Honestly, it would be tough to apply a moniker more apropos for your new football league. And it would be great when the NFL retires the Steelers and uses that spot for a more important market like Los Angeles, Toronto, London, Columbus, Des Moines, or Hartford.

A lot of haters out right now. We get it, it’s tough at the bottom. It’s not easy at the top either. Carrying this shadow is heavy. Casting it over you is dooming, we know. You pray for manufactured events like this.

In truth, it doesn’t matter. Next man up. We could start a running back off the streets tonight and see success, for that’s all we know. These attempts by the league to stop us will of course falter. Take the time to read a book and click our name for enlightenment.

Hey, eventually it will be this way all over the country. It’s great for pain control and brain relaxation. We have to get over this ridiculous notion that weed is dangerous. Alcohol is a FAR worse problem.

As the biggest Steelers fan, it pains me to say all of the following:

These two are done. Santonio Holmes was SB MVP. He tested positive in the OFFseason and was immediately released. These idiots get busted the afternoon where they’re scheduled to travel to the most important preseason game the year (#3) and haven’t done crap? They’re about to find out just how (un)important they really are.

That being said … How selfish can you be? There are 51 other guys (not including coaches, staff, etc.) who are working their butts off after two average seasons and finally having a potent offense and fast and crazy defense, giving their all to get back to the winning standard, and you pull some stupid stunt like drinking and driving, and having weed in your pocket while doing it? I hate to say they have to go…but they have to go. That selfishness can NOT be tolerated in our franchise.

Tears to my eyes. I thought we were going to witness something special this year. Sad day in the ‘Nation!

  235. bucsorbust says: Aug 21, 2014 5:28 AM

Like it or not, agree or not, marijuana is illegal in most places. Punishable, despite one’s personal thoughts on the law. If you don’t like it, it’s because you either smoke it yourself or want to, or are some weirdo liberal. All that said, smoking weed and driving around is not only illegal, but really stupid and irresponsible, just like driving drunk is. Blount even has a little girl. I wonder if he toots around high with her in the back seat. Until the league gets serious on illicit drugs, NFL players will use their money to buy up the weed, and continue to drive around town as a threat to law abiding citizens. Too bad they didn’t run the car off a bridge and into a ravine.

This has much larger implications. Forget the fact that these guys know how to circumvent the NFL’s “random” drug testing. Forget the fact that Blount has worn out his welcome at every bus stop in his career. I’ve got that knucklehead Bell in my keeper league.

  246. indywilson40 says: Aug 21, 2014 7:55 AM

What’s a Road Scholar? Is it someone that studies maps? A highway engineer?

  247. grogseal says: Aug 21, 2014 8:08 AM

    Reefer maddness!

  248. holeinone09 says: Aug 21, 2014 8:19 AM

Well, this sucks. The 2 primary backs make a stupid mistake, and it will affect the entire team. There will likely be at least a one game suspension for Bell, based on precedent. Good thing we have Ben on the team, and the incompetent Browns as the first opponent.

I bet the Steelers take their own action to show their disappointment. In fact, not taking Bell to the Eagles game does that already. You won’t see the Steelers kissing their assess like the Ravens and Harbaugh did with Rice the wife beater, who only got a 2 game suspension and was coddled by the team during the entire process. Now that was a complete joke.

  249. askod1 says: Aug 21, 2014 8:30 AM

First of all Bell and the Female admitted to the drugs being theirs and Blount was released form the scene. He was told to call for a ride. Bell and the female are the only ones being charged with the crime. That being said, with all the josh Gordon and Blackmon crap going on they should have been smarter and stayed home instead of out taking Burn rides. this isn’t going to sit well with the Owners, fans, coaches, or teammates. this impacts the entire season.

  250. mrpkg says: Aug 21, 2014 8:37 AM

Like they did with Santonio Holmes, the Steelers will suspend both of them for one game.

Got to do it, no matter how much it hurts.

  251. torethatbridgeout says: Aug 21, 2014 8:41 AM

That Browns defense is no joke. Hardly a guaranteed win, especially if Gordon plays and the Steelers have no running game.

  252. thegenoatkinsdiet says: Aug 21, 2014 8:43 AM

I told the Police Department that it was a bad idea to hire a Browns fan. But did they listen? Now look…

  253. enoughofthatalready says: Aug 21, 2014 8:43 AM

As first time offenders, they will each be suspended by the NFL for 2 games in 2014 with Bell possibly getting an additional game because of the DUI.

  254. enoughofthatalready says: Aug 21, 2014 8:48 AM

Maybe they should marry each other and enter into a drug program right away and have Tomlin proclaim how upstanding they are so that Goodell can be fooled into a lesser punishment. Oh, that’s right……..they do not play for the Ravens.

  255. wallyswfl says: Aug 21, 2014 8:58 AM

We, the Steelers, support the immediate relocation of the Bills, Raiders, Vikings, Jaguars, Buccaneers, Rams, Ravens, Chargers, Colts, and Cardinals. Their current cities are an embarrassment to the NFL and the game Pittsburgh invented. #6 – LOL this is great this person is right in line with pftpoet man o man to funny what was the steelers record last year?

  256. rufustfireflyjr says: Aug 21, 2014 9:07 AM

Forget the weed. They should be arrested, fined and suspended for being DUMB enough to smoke marijuana in a car out in public. Maybe folks are right; maybe smoking that stuff really does make you stupid.

  257. realitycheckbaby says: Aug 21, 2014 9:20 AM

Suddenly so many Steeler fans suddenly conclude pot is no big deal and shouldn’t be punished even though they were just calling for a year long Gordon suspension because “he broke a league rule”.

Hypocrites? Of course just following the team’s lead.

Regardless, you take a kid from Skip Kelley’s Oregon teams you’re asking for trouble.

  258. enoughofthatalready says: Aug 21, 2014 9:33 AM

I am certain that there are at least a dozen players on every team that smoke weed regularly. Most of them are just smart enough not to get caught doing it.

  259. enoughofthatalready says: Aug 21, 2014 9:36 AM

Not only will they each be suspended for 2 games each, I am not sure that the Steelers will have roster exemptions for these bozos to keep replacements on their roster. Archer and Poole will not be able to carry the load. I guess the Steelers will have to employ a no-huddle passing attack for 2 games. Issac Redman and Jonathan Dwyer, where art thou?

  260. willyalistentothis says: Aug 21, 2014 9:38 AM

Based on the Ray Rice suspension I suspect that these guys will only have to wash was the commissioner’s car.

  261. rg3andthensome says: Aug 21, 2014 9:43 AM

Here come all the Blount Jokes

  262. jtbsteeler says: Aug 21, 2014 9:51 AM

Notice how there’s expectation that the Steelers FO will suspend these guys on their own. Contrast that with the Ravens who haven’t lifted a finger to discipline their arrested players this summer.

No excuse for their stupidity. Suspend them as needed.

  263. movethesticks76 says: Aug 21, 2014 9:52 AM

Rumour has it Le’Veon was reefing on Blount!!!!!!!!!!

  264. rl7911 says: Aug 21, 2014 9:52 AM

The Steelers are becoming a joke under Mike Tomlin.

  265. jtbsteeler says: Aug 21, 2014 9:54 AM

The Steelers beat the Seahawks in the Super Bowl. You cried and complained. I got drunk and laughed at you.

  266. weepingjebus says: Aug 21, 2014 9:59 AM

Another master stroke from a Belichick sleeper agent.

  267. enoughofthatalready says: Aug 21, 2014 10:10 AM

For all the talk about how the Steelers FO should suspend them on their own and how the Ravens did not do the same to Rice………the CBA does not allow suspensions to come from both the league and the team. The team cannot come forward and suspend them until the league makes a ruling which will definitely be a suspension anyway. Based upon one of Goodell’s double standards, technically Bell and Blount will be suspended for 2 games without pay as it is a first time offense with Bell possibly getting another game tacked on for DUI but you never know with Goodell. I feel that their suspensions will not be simultaneous since they are essentially the first and second string RB for the team. The Steelers FO basically cannot do anything other than maybe keeping them away from practices which really isn’t a punishment to the players but a punishment to the team as a whole later on especially since they will miss regular season games.

  268. sportsshuffle says: Aug 21, 2014 10:11 AM

    Blount is just being literal.

  269. deadeye says: Aug 21, 2014 10:12 AM

I was going to simply post “idiots”, but saw that someone else had already done so. Thus I need to amend my post:

  278. steelersnowand4ever says: Aug 21, 2014 12:11 PM

Well at least Blount didn’t repeat his Oregon Ducks incident….get out of the car and lay out the cop.

  279. candrwells says: Aug 21, 2014 12:54 PM

    Dum, Dee, Dum, Dum…. DUMB!!!!!

  280. gbpackerfansincebirth says: Aug 21, 2014 12:55 PM

I’m surprised these two weren’t released and the cops given season tickets. How many other cities would arrest two starting players before the start of a football season? I say bravo officers, there are people in this world who put the law above a sport.

  281. cedarstrength says: Aug 21, 2014 1:02 PM

  282. cedarstrength says: Aug 21, 2014 1:03 PM

Question is will they have a longer suspension than Ray Rice.

  283. snakeskinsoul says: Aug 21, 2014 1:05 PM

so for the multitude of Steeler fans piling on Josh Gordon….feels a bit different now huh?

REALLY? You have an opportunity to be a professional football player, to make a boatload of money, to play a significant role for a potentially contending team … and you risk it all for a lil weed?

Although I don’t use or drink, I think it’s ridiculous that pot’s illegal. But it is. And you two are dimwits.

  286. gisellichek says: Aug 21, 2014 1:32 PM

Blount “listen rook… it will be NFL (not for long) if you can’t twist a good doobie, lets take a ride and I’ll show you”

Bell “thanks brother , we gonna dominate this season”

    Cop “this your weed”

Blount “sure , ain’t we in Colorado?, what It’s illegal in here, awe damn”
