Marrone mad after Bills brawl at practice for second straight day

Bills coach Doug Marrone said after fights broke out at Wednesday’s practice that he didn’t want to see that anymore. Apparently his players weren’t listening.

More fights broke out at today’s practice, and Marrone was not pleased. Marrone yelled at players for getting into it, and when defensive end Jerry Hughes said something back to his coach, Marrone went off, spewing profanity at Hughes and asking, “Do you want to play on this team?

Marrone also told Hughes, “If you’ve got a problem with me, you need to come and tell me.” The two talked after practice, and Marrone later said Hughes wasn’t the only one he was disappointed with.

“That’s directed at anyone who doesn’t want to be part of the team,” Marrone said. “I told Jerry that I love the way he practices and I love the way he plays special teams and how he goes about it. And we’ve got to get some other guys who are starters to do that.”

Some coaches believe that fights at training camp can be a good sign of a tough team, but Marrone doesn’t see it that way.

“I’m going to say it again, and I’m not going to answer another question on it: We’re responsible for the integrity of the game,” Marrone said, via ESPN. “Can you figure it out? Figure it out. We’re responsible for the integrity of the game. There is no use for fighting in the game of football. Period. End of discussion. Move on.”

Marrone sounds ready to move on from a fight-filled training camp, which concluded with today’s practice.

a player started mouthing off for Carolina and Thomas Davis got into his face and shut him up. its nice to see the team taking control of the situation before it gets out of hand.

I wonder how these fights impact the team dynamics.

Way in over his head. There’s a reason why buffalol was the only team to consider him for a coaching job. Not head coaching job, no one even interviewed him for water boy.

    .500 ball at Syracuse lol.

  5. clownsfan says: Aug 21, 2014 6:33 PM

He will not be HC in Toronto.

Yeah and what did they do before he got there?

“That’s directed at anyone who doesn’t want to be part of the team,”

That’s probably the entire roster. I doubt anyone on draft day hopes they get drafted to Buffalo. The only people that play there are rookies on their first contract, players no other team wants, and players that are financially motivated. The Bills are NOBODY’S first choice.

Marrone looks like a fatter Alec Baldwin…

Well at least he is trying to promote good intentioned messages, I’ll cut him some slack until they start losing if they do.

I think Marrone’s going to wear a Super Bowl Ring, and soon.

Funny how others perceive coaches. One day, they are worthless losers, the next day they’re Vince Lombardi.
Cleveland couldn’t wait to run Belichick out on a rail… and they have lost ever since..
I’m sure they would love to have that one back.

JJ or Tuna in Miami was another laugher.
    Give Marrone a chance Buffalo…

At least we know Buffalo has players on their roster who don’t take no sheet.

  18. bucsorbust says: Aug 21, 2014 7:28 PM

It got so testy that during 11 on 11 drills, he took the defense off the field completely. Five plays later, the offense scored a touchdown.

  19. peckerneckfred says: Aug 21, 2014 7:35 PM

Marrone asked him “Whats in your wallet”

  20. pammy6 says: Aug 21, 2014 7:38 PM

He’s doing a good job up there in Buffalo, I expect them to make some strides forward this year.

I’m a big boxing fan. I’m an even bigger football fan. If these guys want to fight, there’s a decaying sport that needs them in the heavyweight division.

Opened camp early for the HOF game and had them in pads for a long time. Long camp, hot, tempers tend to flare and players just want to get the hell out of there and get on with the regular season.

  32. broncostevenp says: Aug 21, 2014 9:05 PM

They don’t have a respected veteran leader on either side of the ball, so it will be another 6-10 5-11 season in buffalo. Not to mention their QB is terrible.

  33. ahs2 says: Aug 21, 2014 9:10 PM

LOL, who’s the DC?! Buffalo just got a genuine taste of Jim Schwartz.

  37. seadawgs72 says: Aug 21, 2014 11:10 PM

Success on the field starts with the GM & director of player personnel if that particular front office employs a personnel director. You can run all the coaches, good & bad, thru a team but if the guy picking the talent isn’t any good the coach doesn’t have a chance. Take it from a Seahawk fan. Not bragging about recent success, I’m referring to the 35 years before Holmgren got there & brought some consistency to the team. Even then he had a GM that constantly undermined him in Tim Ruskell which lead to his premature departure (see the poison pill with Hutchinson). Even tho Holmgren never achieved the ultimate goal in Seattle he turned them into a perennial playoff team & no team has won the nfc west more since realignment. Btw, I’m not a Holmgren advocate. I prefer defense. All I’m saying is no team will improve on a consistent basis until they have strong leadership at the GM position & if Ruskell hadn’t been in his way i sincerely believe he would’ve succeeded in Seattle.

Is it any wonder that the Patriots always win that division. Put another asterisk by Brady’s name in the records book.

Buffalo Marrone. Tornoto here we come.

  41. joetoronto says: Aug 22, 2014 4:08 AM

Marrone won’t make it to Toronto with the rest of the team and that’s good.

  42. brazzz01 says: Aug 22, 2014 6:32 AM

The Curse of Doug Flutie lives on…this is what you get for starting Rob Johnson and benching Flutie in that playoff game…

  43. dabears2485 says: Aug 22, 2014 6:57 AM

All work and no play makes Doug a dull boy.

  44. denverdude7 says: Aug 22, 2014 7:22 AM

Keep running them end zone to end zone until they drop Doug. That will get their respect and attention very quickly.

It will also put you on the unemployment line when they quit on you in game 4.

  45. mysterytonite says: Aug 22, 2014 8:14 AM

Maybe you should stop running Spiller into the back of his lineman then eh?

The “NFL Practice Fight” is almost getting as fake and played out as the “MLB Let’s all stand at home plate and jump together as a team whenever someone hits a walkoff single.”

  50. bobsnygiants says: Aug 22, 2014 10:48 AM

we’ll you might as we’ll let them fight, they getting ready for the real thing and the way it looks your offense stinks , it all on the defense.
