Let’s play the “Who gets suspended this Friday?” game

Friday

It’s Friday.  And while the NFL privately bristles at the perception that it engineers the release of suspension-related news for the final day of the workweek, recent history warrants keeping an eye out for this week’s latest leak followed by an announcement that someone will be missing some time.

So who ya got?  Will it be Browns receiver Josh Gordon, who faces a one-year suspension under the substance-abuse policy?  Will it be 49ers linebacker Aldon Smith, who faces a multi-game suspension for multiple violations of the substance-abuse policy and the personal-conduct policy?

Or will it be Colts owner Jim Irsay, who was arrested in March for operating a vehicle while under the influence of prescription pain medication?  Will it be “retired” defensive lineman Josh Brent, who hopes to be reinstated after serving time for the DUI-related death of former teammate Jerry Brown?

Then again, it also could be someone on whom we’re not focused.  That’s what happened last week, when Chiefs receiver Dwayne Bowe received a one-game suspension, arising presumably from last year’s arrest on marijuana possession charges.

So who will it be this week?  While we await an answer, make your pick below.

It won’t be Irsay. They aren’t even going to think about him until after his court case and he keeps getting that pushed back. I fully expect Irsay to get it pushed back again until it is in the early off season when everyone is focused on basketball and then the League will give him a teeny tiny little fine, if they give any punishment at all. I wouldn’t put it past them to try to sell the “undisclosed terms” ploy.

Aldon, 8 games with credit for 5 served.

Like it or not, the league wants to support those who are going out to look for help therefore needs to set a precedent that rehab will be looked upon favorably.

This kid needs to be quiet as a church mouse off the field for the rest of his career.

James Harrison just for old times sake.

  22. RegisHawk says: Aug 22, 2014 11:36 AM

    Gordon: 1 fiscal year.
Smith: 1 year’s worth of games minus 5 for rehab.

I’m going with the Trifecta, Smith, Irsay and Gordon.

I doubt they release anything today because then it would most likely be reiterated on national broadcast during the preseason games. The last thing they want is a national audience hearing all their bad news right when its released. They usually release friday afternoons to avoid this, but Preseason is boinks that up for them.

Josh Gordon will get 8 for his messed up tests, and then the NFL will take up his last DUI. We’ll be left hanging on that.

When everything is said and done, Gordon gets at least a year.

Is that Kaepernick in the picture?

  27. dacktle49 says: Aug 22, 2014 2:23 PM

Oh Seawagoners your so pathetic.. Two games max for Mr. Smith!

  28. djshnooks says: Aug 22, 2014 3:22 PM

Marcell Dareus shouldn’t be suspended until next year…that is how they do things.

Nigel Bradham got picked up in August of 2013 for weed, and JUST got a game.

Dareus and the Steelers RB’s should not be suspended until next offseason…if they NFL wants to keep any kind of integrity.

  29. catquick says: Aug 22, 2014 3:36 PM

If we’re correct, do we win fabulous prizes?

  30. jayniner says: Aug 22, 2014 3:39 PM

The suspense with Aldon Smith is KILLING me!

Not cool, NFL, not cool at all!

  31. jerrysglassescleaner says: Aug 22, 2014 6:18 PM

NFL is getting out of control.
