Ndamukong Suh seems to be in midseason form

Ndamukong Suh AP

It looks like Ndamukong Suh will be making a preseason donation to The Human Fund.

The Lions defensive tackle was already flagged for a late hit on Chad Henne, which was fairly egregious.

SB Nation has a good look at it, as Suh takes a good two steps after Henne has thrown the ball before drilling him in the chest.

So perhaps Troy Vincent’s talk with him might not have been as productive as Vincent thought.

Suh is one of the league’s best players, but too often, finds the spotlight for unnecessary hits like this one that take the spotlight away from his talent.

It’s amazing to match that kind of talent with that thick of a head.

    Dirtiest Player in the NFL!

The shaking sound that you hear is Aaron Rodgers shivering in his cleats!

  4. rbanks51 says: Aug 22, 2014 8:56 PM

Had to shake my head reading responses on twitter of people actually defending this game.

He had plenty of time to stop himself, or at the very least not completely blast him. Then to top it off he pretty much led with his helmet.

I don’t like how the league overly protects QB’s, but that was a dirty play by Suh.

How about reggie bush being more in form? But I guess this is typical around here. …

    Not really.

10 years ago its not a penalty and nobody bats an eye. I for one miss the old NFL. But this is all we’ve got I guess. Suh is just playing in the wrong generation. Football fans from the 90s would have revered this guy.

  9. hyzers says: Aug 22, 2014 8:59 PM

He’s also the player other NFL players would least like to fight per ESPN survey. That’s a guy I want on my team.

  10. monkeyjuice313 says: Aug 22, 2014 9:01 PM

Minimal compared to his history. Anyone else and this isn’t even close to being noticed.

The only way he’ll ever get to Aaron Rodgers is on a late hit.

  15. joel418 says: Aug 22, 2014 9:11 PM

He is a tremendous player, but if the NFL wants to send a message to this guy, game suspensions and full paycheck rescinding is the only way to make him stop. Step up and protect the shield, Mr. Commissioner!!!

  16. derekgorgonstar says: Aug 22, 2014 9:12 PM

    Not a Lions fan but……

is it me, or is anyone else a fan of him? Kind of like the dirty play.

  17. roserowdie5 says: Aug 22, 2014 9:13 PM

I would call that less than “two good steps”. And he hits him in the chest. No knees. No head. No slamming him to the turf. Whaaaa! It’s football.

  18. DonKellyBaby says: Aug 22, 2014 9:13 PM

And fans from the other 31 teams in the NFL would love to have him on their team. However, currently speaking, they just want to bash him.

  19. motorcity20 says: Aug 22, 2014 9:14 PM

This league is getting so weak, gonna be tough to watch soon. There was a flag for “abusive language” on Marquis Lee for God’s sake.

  25. baddegg says: Aug 22, 2014 9:22 PM

Fines mean nothing with the salaries and endorsements these guys make.

The only way to stop Suh is to suspend him for a significant number of games…make him a liability for a team to have on the roster.

  26. charlesanakin says: Aug 22, 2014 9:27 PM

Borderline on the flag. Can complain if you get called and I’ve seen worse not called. Certainly not dirty. Clean hit in the chest, didn’t lead with helmet or drive him into the ground. Nothing to see here.

  27. redwings248 says: Aug 22, 2014 9:30 PM

Knock down the qb as hard and as many times as possible. A few 15 yarders are worth it if the qb is feeling ghosts or laying on his back–better yet, out of the game. That’s football!

  45. vancouversportsbro says: Aug 22, 2014 10:27 PM

  49. chrisk61 says: Aug 22, 2014 10:51 PM

detroit needs to cut bait with suh and fairley. these 2 could be the pillars of the league’s best defense but instead they are undisciplined, overrated and need to go.

a team’s leaders can’t act the way they act.

  50. ivanpavlov0000 says: Aug 22, 2014 10:51 PM

Further evidence that QBs should be required to wear skirts.

Clean hit – in the chest. Because it’s Suh everyone is reacting like Chad Henne was mortally wounded and will never again set foot on a field.

And Reggie Bush’s TD run was spectacular.

  51. dickshotdogs says: Aug 22, 2014 10:56 PM

    Or “he.”

  52. dlem7 says: Aug 22, 2014 11:06 PM

For a guy who seems like a world class person off the field its a shame he does this on the field.

  53. davikes says: Aug 22, 2014 11:16 PM

So much for the new HC bringing some discipline to the team. Assuming that it cost the team 15 yards. With his track record it might cost him a game or two in the regular season.

  54. 2difshoe says: Aug 22, 2014 11:19 PM

What’s more pathetic than the late hit by Suh is the fact that not one of Henne’s teammates got in Suh face for the late hit.

  55. wheezerswin says: Aug 22, 2014 11:32 PM

The most over rated player in the nfl. The only reason he gets attention is from his dirty cheap shots.

  57. justafan2014 says: Aug 23, 2014 12:16 AM

  58. fansrus says: Aug 23, 2014 12:16 AM

Instead of a flag, make the punishment fit the crime. Have him stand in a defenseless position, and take a direct hit to the body, helmet first maybe, by a volunteer from the other team. That seems fair.

  59. chargerdillon says: Aug 23, 2014 12:50 AM

Calling Suh a dirty player is a bit redundant at this point isnt it?

Stomping on a guys chest while he’s laying on the ground on THANKSGIVING….

You don’t really get worse from that, Suh has pretty much bottomed out, this is just who he is.

  60. largent80100 says: Aug 23, 2014 1:28 AM

Again Suh, AGAIN? And it was a avoidable cheap shot, Henne had already released the ball.

You really make hard for people to see your talent over your dirty personality.

  61. mikeymo74 says: Aug 23, 2014 2:48 AM

Count me among all those who think this is being overblown. Late hit? Sure. Throw the flag. But it’s not anything more than that. It’s only a story because of who it is. Knowing Goodell though, he’ll probably throw the book at him for this.

  62. lgbarn says: Aug 23, 2014 2:50 AM

Gerald McCoy is better anyway. Pretty much taking the handoff every snap.

  63. steelerdynasty2010 says: Aug 23, 2014 3:19 AM

Suh’s right foot is coming down on the release, left foot hits then it’s helmet to chest. watch it closely and you’ll see that he hit him ON his second step.
having said that, he clearly lunges forward and leads with the helmet to the chest, which is the problem i have with it. didnt strike me as egregiously late, but it did strike me as flagrantly malicious and clearly something that has been legislated out of the game. leading with your head is, and always has been, stupid. the only reason guys are “tough” enough to lead with their heads is that they’re wearing a padded helmet. dont see a lot of these hits in rugby.
use a shoulder, NO problem with the hit. i could even live with a push. leading with your head is always going to be stupid to me, and always deserving of a flag

  64. Brandon in Northwest Suburbia says: Aug 23, 2014 4:23 AM

10 years ago its not a penalty and nobody bats an eye. I for one miss the old NFL.

    ___________________________________

Nonsense. 2-3 steps and leading with the helmet?Charles Haley and Greg Lloyd got flagged for that kind of stuff all the time when Suh was still in diapers.

The league has certainly taken more steps to protect players recently, but that particular play has been a penalty for 30+ years.

  65. lionsdraftguy says: Aug 23, 2014 5:22 AM

Cant wait next year during free agency when all you clowns are compaigning for YOUR team to sign Suh. Cant wait!

  66. staffordsyear says: Aug 23, 2014 5:37 AM

Suh is a dirty player= Beating a dead horse. Deal with it..and protect your qb :)

  67. mackie66 says: Aug 23, 2014 6:36 AM

Mid-season form,,must have kicked another downed linemen.

  68. stinger124 says: Aug 23, 2014 8:50 AM

There was another roughing the passer penalty called during that game but no one has mentioned it here because it wasn’t called on Suh and he’s the only NFL player who deserves a fine for that. Have I got it right?

  69. bucsorbust says: Aug 23, 2014 8:55 AM

How many living things does he stomp on that we don’t know about? Wife, dog, cat. humans?

  70. brose1029 says: Aug 23, 2014 9:40 AM

I don’t know what’s worse, the half hearted shove from Suh or the over acted flop from Henne. QB’s are treated like babies, and now they are acting like them with the exception of a few.

  71. rodgersfeeblecollarbone says: Aug 23, 2014 9:51 AM

I know it is Suh, and he has this terrible history. And, yes, it was a bit late. But when I read the comments and the story about it I thought it was going to be some brutal hit. Something way over the top. Then I watched it. Honestly, this happens every game in the NFL, multiple times often. Calling it “egregious” is what is way over the top, not the hit.

  72. leatherface2012 says: Aug 23, 2014 9:57 AM

rodgers better call it quits while he still can

  73. oldbyrd says: Aug 23, 2014 9:57 AM

Doesn’t matter one bit. Next year he will be flagged for ripping away the flag in what will be Professional Flag Football. The game has become ping pong. It is so sad to watch what they call Monday Night Penalties.

  74. rmc1995 says: Aug 23, 2014 10:24 AM

The NFL should force all quarterbacks to where some kind of protective gear on their heads, shoulders and legs if they insist on keeping football a physical content sport.

  75. dadsource says: Aug 23, 2014 1:10 PM

Best part was Henne rolling out of the way and looking up to see if the pass was complete. Suh who? Dude was a non factor in the game with a below average offensive line. Then gets headlines for a late hit which has no bearing on the play. He is trying to affect future plays with injuries because he cat cut it on the current play. He sucks.

  76. dadsource says: Aug 23, 2014 1:11 PM

    Can’t. Damn auto correct

  77. surfinbird1 says: Aug 23, 2014 1:54 PM

  78. 34defense2014 says: Aug 23, 2014 6:47 PM

  79. 34defense2014 says: Aug 23, 2014 6:49 PM

Do that then there’s no need for leading with the helmet and stuff like that. I think I could work? In really do! because this isn’t tackle football we watch these days.

  80. 34defense2014 says: Aug 23, 2014 7:11 PM

I was watching the Billls- Bucks game. The pass inter & contact rule is absolutely making this game unwatchable! I Just shut it off.

  81. bigsurbill says: Aug 23, 2014 8:08 PM

Suh isn’t that much of a dirty player so much as the NFL has become “pussified”. 1 step removed from flag football. Back in the 60′s & 70′s, Suh woulda most likely won Defensive Player of the Year awards, easily. No more rough stuff, no more celebrations. WTF has the NFL come to ?
