Browns trim roster to 76 players

royceadams AP

One day before the NFL deadline for all teams to trim their rosters to 75 players, the Browns are down to 76.

Cleveland announced that 14 players were cut from the 90 man roster today.

It’s a fairly nondescript group of players, with no big names cut: DB Royce Adams, RB Edwin Baker, OL Randall Harris, DB T.J. Heath, DL Cam Henderson, WR Jonathan Krause, OL Ryan Lee, LB Caleb McSurdy, OL Keavon Milton, LB Keith Pough, WR Tim Smith, OL Jeremiah Warren, TE Martell Webb and WR Anthony Armstrong.

The Browns now have to make one more roster move before tomorrow afternoon. One possibility is that the NFL’s looming suspension of wide receiver Josh Gordon could come down today or tomorrow, which would get the Browns down to 75.

I really liked baker, I’m surprised he was cut.

    Anthony Armstrong, welcome to Toronto.

I am a little surprised that Armstrong got cut so early considering how bad our WRs have been thus far. At least he has been a professional WR in the NFL before, which is more than you can say for a lot of the WRs still on the roster. Also of note, Edwin Baker was getting significant playing time last year and was cut in the first round of cuts. You could look at that as a positive in that it shows improvement, or more realistically it highlights just how atrocious our RBs were last year.

    Wow Manziel is still there?

Maybe this is exactly why the league is waiting. Do your own work, Browns.

It’s gotta be tough being cut by the Browns. At least they’re keeping Connor Shaw… for now, anyway.

We’re still twisting in the wind on this Josh Gordon decision. Just NO excuse for this.

So how is the Browns real first round pick doing, you know Justin Gilbert?

Baker seemed like he was a good back when given the opportunity….

If you ‘re a WR getting cut by the Browns, you’re done.
    Just saying.

See you in 2015 Gordon…well, after you serve that additional one game suspension for your recent DUI.

  13. logicaldawg says: Aug 25, 2014 1:18 PM

The league is now being officially unfair with the Browns over the Gordon thing. Time has run out.

if i was Gordon I would file a grievance with the players union, this is absurd how long this suspension decision is taking

Based on how Cleveland has played in the preseason I’m surprised a QB hasn’t been cut. QB’s need to be cut in the preseason more often before the 75-man roster is made.

Thumbs up if you want Shaw on the final roster, thumbs down if you don’t. I think between the risk of injuries and overall possible QB ineptitude, I’d keep him on the roster and carry 4 QB’s. I think Shaw would get pulled from the practice squad by another team.

    Surprised

Did the “homeless guy” pick the players to be cut?

  19. fanofthegame1 says: Aug 25, 2014 5:16 PM

Brownies gonna cut Crowell, too bad every other team knows about him. They think if they don’t use him nobody will know.

How is Wallace the right tackle that gave up the sack of Johnny to Michael Sam still on the team? That was the lamest attempt at a block I’ve ever seen.

Pettine and Farmer need to be fired at year end. They are clueless.

    Maybe Sam winked at Wallace.
