Peterson thinks Cassel has the edge at quarterback

Peterson

The Vikings haven’t named a starting quarterback, and they haven’t identified a timetable for doing so. But that doesn’t stop key employees of the organization from having an opinion on whether Matt Cassel or Teddy Bridgewater should be the guy.

The organization’s most key employee has chimed in.

“Right now, I feel like, just my personal opinion, I feel like Matt has the edge,” running back Adrian Peterson told Chris Tomasson of the St. Paul Pioneer Press on Sunday. Going off of understanding the offense and who’s running the offense better right now, you know, nothing to do with talent-wise, so that’s why Matt [has the edge].”

With Peterson the current and past (and at least for now the future) face of the franchise, his opinion carries plenty of weight. Unless coach Mike Zimmer doesn’t care what the locker room thinks.

It’s entirely possible that Zimmer doesn’t. If he does, Peterson’s voice would become one of the most important when it comes to taking the pulse of the players.

“He’s been here,” Peterson said of Cassel. “He’s a veteran guy. This is Teddy’s first year, so I feel like we are in a good position to even be having that conversation.”

Eventually, there won’t be a conversation. Eventually, Bridgewater will be the starter. And if he plays well, Bridgewater will supplant Peterson as the face of the franchise.
