The Rams made their first wave of moves, with more to come tomorrow.

The team announced 10 cuts, none of the surprising variety.

The players released were: Cornerback Jarrid Bryant, punter Bobby Cowan, tackle R.J. Dill, wide receiver Jordan Harris, long snapper Jorgen Hus, fullback Kadeem Jones, linebacker Johnny Millard, wide receiver T.J. Moe, tackle D.J. Morrell and linebacker Pat Schiller (waived/injured).

That gets them to 79, meaning they still have four to cut before tomorrow afternoon.

  1. Sam is not getting cut even with the deep d-line they have. He has not been the distraction that many thought he would. He can contribute on special teams, jersey sales, and might play a little if an injury occurs.

  2. They’ll probably wait until the final cuts , or maybe even after week one , to cut him . . . gotta stay politically correct , ya know.

  3. Michael Sam has 4sacks and 5 QB hits.

If one guy for the Dallas D had 4 preseason sacks, he’d have earned him self a spot on the 53man roster (and in Dallas, he’d have also earned a starting job and $100+mil contract haha)

  4. Seattle twice, Frisco twice and a underrated cardinals team twice…. No Bradford now? Lol not gonna matter if Sam plays or not. The Rams will stink.. Again…

  5. Cutting the other Sam (Bradford) might make business sense — and still may happen eventually — but to do it now would be horrific both from a PR and player morale perspective.

  6. They can’t cut Bradford. The cap implications would cripple them for years.

Sam is what he is: He’s going to be a backup on a deep roster. At this point, it wouldn’t surprise me if he made the roster simply because the social outrage of it all, even though he’s simply an average football player at the pro level. But what the sad thing is, you can only carry 53 on the active roster. If it comes down to giving a spot to him or a guy sweating to make the club at a true position of need, you would hope the club did the right thing for THEM and not what a certain small segment of the population would want. It’s football for crying out loud!

  7. @blacknole Winston was sacked 27 times last year? Does that make him overrated?

Manziel still went 10/15 (66.67%) and had a rushing TD. Sure he was playing against 2nd and 3rd teamers but he also had 2nd and 3rd teamers blocking for him….

  8. The Rams Organization rewards Sam Bradford with $50M “Guaranteed” (before ever throwing a first-NFL game pass); meanwhile, tens of players looking to simply make the roster, even at the expense of their own injuries, don’t make the cut, despite trying their hearts out. The NFL is truly f’ed up.

Rams started 22 players, none of whom were Michael Sam.

Please stop. The only reason he is getting press (even on this site) is because he is gay. Yet, that is the one thing you and others say you dislike about the situation. You say he should be evaluated as a football player but if that was the case you wouldn’t be writing about him. Where are the stories about other rookie bubble players? None, why? Because the fact that Sam is gay IS the story and why he gets recognition where others (many more talented) do not.

  10. I don’t see them cutting Sam. He’s shown he can contribute so can see him as depth. He seriously needs to get some speed though. A little more than he has cause he’s a bit slow.

  11. They said he was second in jersey sales behind Johnny football. Not getting cut no matter how much he sucks. Good business whether he plays or not.

    Slow clap.

It is a story whether you like it or not (hence the click)

  13. At the end of the day, he’s not a gay football player at all. He’s got 5 tackles, including 3 sacks, but no assists, in playing second/third team lineups in three games…this is definitely not a roster lock. Frankly, it’s about average. There are legitimate questions about his size, and how well he fits with the defensive scheme. At the end of the day, he is a 7th round pick who’s been just about average. If he makes it, who cares? If he doesn’t, who cares?

  14. Don’t know if he’ll make the final cut but I think he’s shown enough to expect some team to keep him.

  15. 5 tackles total, three games. Of those 5, three are sacks. All on second and third team. No assists, No passes defenses, not fumble recoveries. Just plain average. Special teams at best, maybe practice squad…

  16. Sam will never make it to the Rams’ practice squad. If he does not make the 53 man roster, he has shown enough to be picked up by another team (Dallas) as soon as he is released. Westbrook has outperformed Sam and deserves the last DL spot.

  17. He is truly a remarkable player on the level of Lawrence Taylor to be able to get this much press coverage.

  18. If Sam gets cut the liberals will say it is because he is gay,. If Sam doesn’t get cut, the anti’s will say it is because he is gay.

Reality is this, Sam is not good enough to play in the NFL at this point. There are other players on that team that deserve a roster spot more than Sam does. Reality will also show us that the Rams don’t want the backlash that would come from cutting Sam. So, a deserving player will be released in favor of being PC.

That is to days reality, as pathetic as it is.

  19. If Sam would have not come out as gay, and just as the SEC Defensive player of the year, he would have made the team anyway. This guy can play, he has about 4 sacks, 5 Quarterback hits in 3 games? Even without the hype this guy should make the team…

  20. Sam will be a PS guy. No team will sign him.

The Bengals had a DE for years who had 5-6 sacks in every preseason. Dontay Moch. He was signed one time in his years. Only to be released and resigned. I am sure every team has a guy like this,

Sam got to sack Manziel and do a dance. And I am sure all the gay guys were loving it when they weren’t watching football while they compared color swatches and the latest fashions. Since they won’t be wearing a jersey because it clashes with their eyes.

  21. I hope greg reid is able to stick. That guys worked hard to get to this point. Im not that suprised by Michael Sam not being cut. “Analysts” can nit pick all they want but you dont win DPOY in the SEC by accident.
