The Vikings released a pair of veterans among their first wave of cuts, with cornerback Derek Cox and tight end Kory Sperry the notable names of the lot.

The rest of the list included: Safety Brandan Bishop, tackles Pierce Burton and Kevin Murphy, wide receivers Andy Cruse, Kamar Jorden, Erik Lora and Ty Walker, defensive linemen Kheeston Randall, Tyler Scott and Jake Snyder, and cornerback Robert Steeples.

They also waived-injured safety Mistral Raymond.

The one bit of good news was tight end Chase Ford being activated from the physically unable to perform list.

They still have one roster move to make, making you wonder why they’re waiting.

  1. Cox and Raymond are the only guys I’ve heard of. The final cuts at safety and cornerback are going to be tough to make. I’m glad Blanton and Robinson finally came back from their hamstring injuries. I hope those hammies don’t linger.

  2. all of these guys would be huge up grades for our little feeble sisters to the east!!!! Some would make the packer ring of honor or what I would call it the “ring of stench” and playoff loses!!!

  3. You have to at least make the playoffs in order to lose a playoff game. But what would Viking fans know about winning a playoff game???

Guarantee – MN will finish last place in the NFCN this season (again)!

  4. Its pretty much the end of the road for all of these cuts. If you are among the first wave of cuts to get to 75 and its from a last place team deviod of talent, the handwritting is on the wall, you were not meant to play in the NFL.

Small consolation, the same could be said of many of the 53 that actually make it to Viking squad.

  5. What would the Vikings now about winning playoff games? Oh I don’t know….. how about 17 playoff wins in their history and 27 out of the last 46 years making the playoffs! I think most teams would take that. What most people fail to remember is that while yes, the Vikings have lost 4 Super Bowls, they were underdogs in 3 of them. (HUGE underdogs in 2) Losing to 3 of the greatest teams in history is no disgrace at all. Yes Packer fans you have won 4 Super Bowls, but you were clearly SUPPOSED to win them ALL, as you were clearly favored in ALL. So in reality BOTH the Vikings and the Packers have both, win one exception each…done EXCACTLY what they were predicted to do in their combined 9 Super Bowls.

  6. Love all the hate the Vikings are getting this year. The smell of fear is thick in the air, and it will make it all the sweeter when the Vikings cause a lot of upsets this year.

  7. Bet they are working out a deal for Ponder to the Rams right now and that is why they cut 14. Vikes open against the Christian Ponder led Rams week 1. Wouldn’t that be something?

  8. Mistral, we hardly knew ye. . . .

Meanwhile, the news out east is that they have not had to cut anyone because three weeks into preseason, one-third of their team is already on IR. Apparently, the Packer training and medical staff has decided to re-up their mail-order certifications to figure out exactly why Packers continue to drop like flies year after year.

  9. Is it that Vikings fans have developed an inferiority complex against GB. Lets be real as long as Rogers is the QB, that division is theirs. Cassel-nah, Cutler-nope, Bridgewater-love his potential, and Stafford-i like to throw picks and fumble the ball away during key moments.

  10. You can tell the Vikings are heading in the right direction. There was not half the trolls commenting on Viking posts in the past couple years as there are this year. Most of them claim GB as their team.

I’m glad to see that Theilen (or however his name is spelled) hasn’t been cut. He will make a GREAT 4th or 5th WR with a strong chance of starting in the next couple years.

GB has more bandwagon fans than most other NFL teams. I would rather have lifelong Viking fans than ones that will desert the team during the bad times.

Mark my words…..in the coming years you will see less and less trolls on Viking threads.

  11. Packer fans are really insecure this year. they know that their time has passed. 26 years of mediocrity on the horizon for the poor slobs to our immediate east!

  12. Nice to see Cassel named the starter. He couldn’t start in college but he can start for the vikings.

Bridewater appears to be a real slow learner and the vikings still have Ponder if Cassel is injured.

  13. I Hear all these ppl talking smak towards my Vikings. Maybe, maybe not.
I think the Vikings are going to suprize a lot of ppl this season & the NFC North will be up for grabs.
I know its still preseason & all….but from what I have seen, the Vikings first team offense is looking very good, and Teddy B isnt bad either.

  14. Vikings will be WAY better in their technique than in recent years. Many teams will be surprised at how the Vikes play this season.

Jerry Gray seems to be a fantastic coach. I only hope the Vikings are able to keep him beyond this year.

  15. ALL TEDDY BWATER DOES IS THROW TOUCHDOWNS!!!! DUDE IS ONE HELL OF A PASSER!!!! THE REAL PURPLE JESUS.. MOVE OVER AP!!!! YOU PLAYIN’ SECON’ FIDDLE NOW!

  16. Surprised a bit to see Cox on the list of first round cuts. I too thought he was playing fairly well. Next round of cuts will be tough, a lot of good competition in camp this year.

I think our 2nd and 3rd string OL has played outstanding this pre-season, especially against AZ where they blitzed 2 or 3 the entire 2nd half against Teddy. OL depth is definitely a strength as is our DL depth.

  17. Viking fans deserve better than this.

Old Bud Grant must be turning over in his grave. (Indoor stadium…say it isn’t so. Cold is just a state of mind)

  18. Wow. Same old posters here, I see. All the jokes about Viking’s talent , “Bustwater”, and small hands never get old, do they? It’s obvious you haven’t watched the preseason and haven’t a clue on what you’re talking about — so why not just stick to your own team’s board instead of always coming to MN to make another juvenile comment that a 12-year old would be embarrassed to say?

If you *have* watched these games, you would know that Bridgewater has shown more flashes of talent and play-making ability than any QB for the Vikings for a long time. So.. keep up the smack-talking. Then check back at week 7 or so and see where things are. My bet is that you’ll be eating those 3rd grade-level words of yours.

wow , really? so it was acceptable to lose all four because you were underdogs. As the fan of a 4 time SUper Bowl loser myself, i can honestly say, this is the dumbest thing I have ever heard.
