Dez Bryant has developed into one of the best wide receivers in the league over the last few season and he ultimately wants his paycheck to reflect that reality.

Well, the payday may not be so far away.

According to Charean Williams of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Bryant said Monday he believes there is a “big chance” that his agent and the Cowboys will be able to reach an agreement on a new contract by the start of the regular season.

“I honestly feel like what I do, sooner or later, I’m going to get what I deserve,” Bryant said. “I believe it. That’s why I don’t stress about it. There’s no need to stress about it. It’s coming. I know it’s coming, so no need to worry about it.”

Owner Jerry Jones apparently didn’t even offer much resistance when asked if a new deal for Bryant was possible that soon.

“I wouldn’t refute that. I just wouldn’t,” Jones said. “I think that’s the best way to respond to that. He’s got a good sense of it. He obviously feels in the right circumstances he wants to get something done. We do, too. That can be good.”

Over the past two seasons, Bryant has caught 185 passes for 2,611 yards and 25 touchdowns. The touchdowns rank second among receivers over that span. He ranks sixth in yards and seventh in receptions as well.

Bryant said he doesn’t want to think about his contract once the season starts. With that in mind, the Cowboys have just under two weeks to get a new deal in place before discussions would likely be tabled until next offseason.

Bryant has proven he’s worth the money. Now it’s just a matter of how soon he’ll be getting it.
