The Lions dropped to 75 players on Monday, but they quickly moved back over the 75-man limit that all teams must reach on Tuesday afternoon.

The Lions claimed tight end Michael Egnew and fullback Emil Igwenagu off of waivers. Egnew, a 2012 third-round pick of the Dolphins, had seven catches for 69 yards in Miami last season. Igwenagu, who can also play tight end, didn’t play any games for the Eagles last year, but did see time in three 2012 contests.

Lions coach Jim Caldwell said he hopes Igwenagu gets playing time on Thursday.

“Hopefully you will see him this week,” Caldwell said, via ESPN.com. “He’s one of those guys that he’s going to have to be a quick learner in order for us to be able to utilize him, but we plan on doing just that. We’re going to put him under an intensive learning curve here shortly.”

The same should be true of Egnew, since both players only have a couple of days to show the Lions that they are worth keeping around. Offensive lineman Bryce Quigley and tight end Jacob Maxwell were let go to get the roster back to 75 players.
