The Dolphins have a decision to make about center Mike Pouncey this week as they set their initial 53-man roster.
The team needs to decide whether Pouncey should start the regular season on the PUP list as he recovers from hip surgery or if he’ll be well enough to contribute to the team before the six weeks he’d require to miss if he’s placed on the list. Pouncey said recently that he had “no question” that playing in the first six weeks of the season was realistic, but a medical opinion will be a necessary part of any evaluation.
Pouncey was in New York on Monday meeting with doctors in hopes of clearing up the issue. Pouncey is hoping to get clearance to begin practicing and the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports that it was a “favorable” meeting.
Samson Satele has been filling in at center with Pouncey out of the lineup and would likely be the starter for the opening week of the season unless Pouncey’s recovery has really accelerated.
