Patriots stash Tyler Gaffney on IR as they get to 75

The Patriots were able to lift a free sixth-round pick from the Panthers by claiming injured running back Tyler Gaffney off waivers.

Today, they stashed him on injured reserve the way the Panthers were too impatient to.

Gaffney and linebacker Cameron Gordon were placed on injured reserve, and six players were released to get to the 75-man limit.

Defensive lineman Ben Bass, defensive back Travis Hawkins, wide receiver Derrick linebacker Deontae Skinner, defensive back Jemea Thomas and wide receiver Wilson Van Hooser were those cuts.

The shame of it is, we just realized there was a person named Wilson Van Hooser, and we’re a little sad that we may never get to type his name again.

Why taunt Panthers fans with a pic of him in a Panthers uniform?

patriots did the same thing with a giants TE two years ago and then cut him in the following training camp. This is a non-story and happens every year with every team claiming some guy another team either cuts or doesn’t go out of its way to protect.

Darin Gantt as a former beat guy covering the Panthers has a bias towards the team. He calls Carolina impatient, a better term would be dumb or incompetent.

“Today, they stashed him (Gaffney) on injured reserve the way the Panthers were too impatient to.”
Impatient is not the word to use in that case. That move was malpractice for an NFL GM, named Gettleman, but it fits right in with releasing 1/3 of a playoff, division-winning roster.

    @ dirtyferret
Except that ballard was an UDFA who tore his ACL and had a microfracture in his knees and was released after the SB…..the panthers lied about gaffneys inj and tried sneaking him ….

Tough to understand what Carolina was thinking. This is exactly what IR was created for.

Don’t be so quick to write off Wilson Van Hooser. There’s always the practice squad.

Wilson Van Hooser wore number 81 in his brief career as ‘camp body’ for the Patriots. He made some good plays on the practice field but sadly couldn’t live up to the number.
