Report: Seahawks fined, stripped of minicamp days for violating no-contact practice rules

AP

In 2012, the Seahawks were disciplined by the NFL for violating the league’s rules governing contact in offseason practices.

They were fined an undisclosed amount and stripped of two OTA practices for the violation, but that apparently didn’t stop them from crossing the league’s line again this year.When the Seahawks were punished in 2012, Carroll complained that it was unclear what constituted illegal contact during practices and the question has been raised by others during the last few off seasons as well.

Chris Mortensen of ESPN reports that the Seahawks and coach Pete Carroll have been collectively fined more than $300,000 for again violating the rule. Per Mortensen, Carroll was fined “at least” $100,000 and the Seahawks were fined more than $200,000. In addition, the team will lose two minicamp days during the 2015 offseason.

Like all the rules stemming from the 2011 collective bargaining agreement, the rule barring contact in offseason practices was agreed to by both the NFLPA and the league. NFLPA president Eric Winston is now a member of the Seahawks, but was not with the team in the offseason.

  1. We learned last year this team has zero regards for the rules. Lets keep holding on every single play till the NFL steps in and RUINS football. Great job Seattle!

  2. Before the “cheating” comments come rolling in, it’s not cheating if you break a rule. It’s only cheating if you’re gaining an advantage. Hitting your own players too hard and fighting is not gaining an advantage.

    But cue the clueless haters anyways.

  3. They just ignore all forms of “illegal contact”. In football, that’s bad. In the real world, I guess it’s good.

  4. No wonder players are scum…it starts at the top. Earl Thomas is the only dude worth respecting

  5. All of you whiny, jealous losers who hate the Seahawks need to save a copy of this article so that, WHEN the Seahawks repeat, you will be able to feel better about yourself by calling the Seahawks “cheaters” or “pete the cheat” or “cheathawks” or whatever other stupid name you can come up with.

  6. Imagine that. Pete Carroll cheating… They should’ve taken away a draft pick from them to get their attention. No one has class like the Cincinnati Bengals, your 2015 Super Bowl Champions!!!!

  7. Oh look at all the haters have a hay day. BOO HOO.
    The Hawks and Pete aren’t fans of flag football, big whoop. Roger Goodell is killing football.

  8. Wow – took a minute or two there to realize that’s the Seahawks coach. What threw me is his mouth and jaws are not going 50 miles a minute (the most distressing sight in all of sports)chomping on that humongous wad of whatever.

  9. Yet 31 other teams have successfully managed to avoid the problem.

    And no, given his net worth I think Paul Allen makes substantially more than $300,000 in a day.

  10. Commence the Pete the cheat comments . Isn’t it sad that the hawks are dead last in suspensions right now, how about the fact that the current world champions trophy resides in it’s case in Seattle.

    People don’t be the troll or moron claiming cheating for EXTRA contact during practice ! WERE TALKING ABOUT PRACTICE!! The hawks play physical they might have crossed the line against each other but that’s hardly cheating. If anything this should shut the “they’ve won now their content trolls up ” bc it’s clear their still hungry !

    Ped jokes , cheat hawks , seadderall , and Pete the cheat jokes commence bc every single article written about the world champs even those about cuts draws 50+. Comments. Haters fill these boards spewing crap just hoping something will stick ! It’s sad how so many of you just pray for this teams demise and yet claim they aren’t any good or got lucky or cheated ! You know you’ve arrived when you draw this amount of hate just for being good and telling people you know your good!

    Well focus on winning you focus on whining and making excuses !

  11. And the crying Seahawk fans cry foul. Cheating Pete will push the edge all day long so stop crying when you get caught. I know it’s tough, but rules are rules kiddies.

  12. Guess they won’t win three titles in four years like The New England Patriots. If your gonna cheat at least make it worthwhile. They should lose draft picks since it’s there second offense

  13. “it’s not cheating if you break a rule”…umm…hate to be the one to break it to you bud, that is one of the very definitions of the word cheat…

  14. Judging by peoples logic on here, I guess if I make a ton of noise in a library, I’m “cheating” because I broke a rule. That’s pretty much what people are insinuating. Clueless.

    Again, if a rule was broken AND is broken to gain an advantage, then that would be cheating. The clueless haters just tend to pounce on any sort of negative news without regard to how clueless they sound.

  15. The Seahawks dont care about the rules because they know that the punishments the NFL hands them won’t compare to the rewards associated with winning a Super Bowl.

  16. seatownballers says: Aug 26, 2014 5:42 PM

    Yawn, Paul Allen makes that in a day in profits and interest

    ———————————————————

    I’d say he makes that every couple of hours. With a net worth of $15 billion your interest rates are pretty good.

  17. “Before the “cheating” comments come rolling in, it’s not cheating if you break a rule. It’s only cheating if you’re gaining an advantage. Hitting your own players too hard and fighting is not gaining an advantage.

    But cue the clueless haters anyways.”

    But it is cheating to have the most players suspended for ped’s, and it is cheating to hold receivers and admit to blatantly breaking the rules for an advantage, omg! don’t have to cue the clueless people, they all live in Seattle.

    If you could only see how hard I’m laughing right now

    Se-asterisk Seahawks*

  18. I’ll enjoy my team “cheating” and bringing back the rings while the rest of you cry about how it was unfair. Get on the Hawks’ level if you guys care so much. Babies.

  19. I really enjoy watching Seahawks fans respond so furiously to the “cheater” comments when so many of them rag on about how they were cheated out of a Super Bowl win against the Steelers.

  20. As a Niner fan I agree with the hawks fans on this one. Hitting is part of the game just not the CBA.

    I do hope they truly enforce defensive holding and PI this year because if they do, the Seahawks will be nothing special. That my friend is how they cheat.

  21. Hmmm, I wonder of this has to do more with Richard Sherman’s comments about the 5 yard no contact rule? Richard is not stupid, some may hate him, others love him! But one thing Richard is not and that’s stupid, not with a 4.0 avg. as Richard says” The 5 Yard no contact Rule is being forced because of Fantasy Football” I’m not into
    Theory’s! But Fantasy Football is a Million dollar legal gambling bis! The NFL has always distanced themselves from gambling!! But not Fantasy Football!! It prompts it! Is Sherman on to something? Plausible? Realistic? Don’t know? One thing is a factual! The more points scored, better for Fantasy Football.

  22. Their will be atleast give teams who have this exact same consequence ! The hawks to hard all the time sorry they don’t play patty cake like other teams , guess that’s why they come out and beast mode other teams and they go running sacred caugh “Denver” caugh

  23. I find it would be much easier to actually like the Hawks if it wasn’t for their fans on here with their “holier than thou” attitude. We get it guys, you won the SB in dominating fashion and look stronger than ever this year. But for the love of all thats good try a slice of humble pie once in awhile and don’t get butt hurt every time someone dares to badmouth your team. Not condoning the trolls who come with the “cheat” talk but man up and admit when your team actually does something wrong- PED suspensions, violating non contact rules etc.

  24. This is funny. Some of the same people who you see on here complaining about how Roger Goodell and the NFLPA are conspiring to wussify the NFL are in here calling Seattle “cheaters” for the crime of practicing too hard.

    The blend of hypocrisy and irony just can’t be beat!

  25. Whaaaaat? Pete Carroll breaking the rules? Say it ain’t so. Is he now gonna leave Seattle holding the bag while he signs for more money somewhere else?

  26. The Seahawks got fined for playing tackle football during flag football season. The Broncos got embarrassed for playing flag football during tackle football season.

  27. So one an NFL decides that they’re okay with contact in their practices, and forgoes the stupid rule, which doesn’t even allow teams to decide if they want to or not, and that team just happens to be one of the more physical teams in the league and won the superbowl dominating Manning.

    Anyways that aside this isn’t cheating. Breaking a ‘rule’ does not equate to cheating. Doing something outside the rules that gives you an upperhand is cheating, like say videotaping practices or steroids.

    Deciding that you’re going to do a full practice as a team though? Please.

  28. And, yeah, it’s cheating. Allowing your players to get extra contact time gives them an advantage down the road. And gives you extra time to evaluate them.

  29. Cheaters cheat…..big surprise.

    and all the new Shehawk fans are gonna troll……big surprise

    Karma’s coming

  30. To all the haters out there.
    If Pete Carroll had rolled into your town in 2010 and turned your franchise into a Super Bowl winner in just four years, you’d be ecstatic. You know you would.

    You’re all pathetic.

  31. Commence the Pete the cheat comments . Isn’t it sad that the hawks are dead last in suspensions right now, how about the fact that the current world champions trophy resides in it’s case in Seattle.

    Just imagine if you had six ….? Being on top is tough and obviously you Seattle fans are learning how to win gracefully, but the pace of learning is very slow. The fan base draws the cheat comments by their constant boasting and you dare to cry when you are called out for your tendency to cheat the rules and the use of drugs. Respect is earned….keep trying.

  32. If a library had a CBA with the people who show up at libraries to read then yes.

    You’re cheating because you guys aren’t playing by the same rules as everyone else. If you do something you’re not suppose to, to gain an advantage…..I think that’s the definition of cheating.

    Who uses that lame example of making noise in a library?

    Good Luck winning another Super Bowl when you have to play defense correctly.

  33. As our rival, I hate Seattle.
    But how is this bad?

    So they want to prepare for the season by hitting each other in practice. Look around the league – they look more prepared than most other teams (mine included.) Maybe more should be smacking the crap out of each other in practice.

  35. How do you call it cheating when we’re taking the risk of injury of our own players hitting them while you other guys sit and play PATTY CAKE?

  36. You ‘cheater’ trolls are pathetic. I suspect most are 49er fans, mad because they can’t get past the Seahawks. Ambiguous rules may or may not have been violated during OTA’s. Carroll had already been fined for it. He’s not stupid. If the rules were clear, do you really think he’s violate them again, intentionally? Wow, what a competetive advantage. That must be why the Seahawks won the SBowl.

    So can we just make the NFL a flag football league now? That’s what Roger Goodell seems to want with all these bogus illegal contact penalties and now this.
    _______________________________

    Don’t blame Goodell for this rule.

    Blame the NFLPA. That’s the players union.

    The players wanted less contact in the offseason and negotiated to get it.

  38. Well that would explain why they were tackling so much better than any other team in the preseason.

    As for the punishment… don’t take away OTAs, take away draft picks. High ones.

  39. Seadderall fans are so sensitive, especially since 98% just started to follow the team and probably football in the past 2 years.

    Hey se-asterisk fans, since your so smart and superior n all after winning all of your 1 sb’s*, can you tell us, who was the 4th player elected to the football hall of fame to represent the Seattle Seahawks after the teams illustrious 40 years in the nfl?

  40. dirtdawg54- the Seahawks have not cheated what so ever ! They havnt had a player suspended for peds in over a year and won the Super Bowl DURING THAT TIME. They play physical football same with every other team except Seattle has 3 ALL PROS in the secondary most other teams are lucky to have pro bowlers . Somehow people believe 3 all pros will struggle and other teams who can Barely field starter quality corners won’t be affected? Get real the Seahawks will be just fine .

    And you do realize Seahawks fans don’t claim the steelers cheated they claim the refs cheated the Seahawks ! There is a FUNDEMENTAL difference between the two! The steelers were awarded a td wrongly (Big Ben down at 1yd line) and numerous erroneous calls that went against Seattle and directly helped the steelers . The ref came out later and public ally cried and said he has to go to counseling bc his conscious won’t settle over how many terrible and one sided calls he made . Why would he after retirement come out and say his calls had a direct affect on the winner if the game , for what reason would he say that?

    The Seahawks were screwed out if a fair Super Bowl ! Hell yeah well complain , if that happened to a team who was more nationally popular their would have been a MASSIVE BACKLASH to that game and people wouldn’t be calling foul to those fans who were cheated out of fairness !

    Hawks deserved a fair shake but major call after call went against Seattle that caused a team a fair chance .
    Example is a illegal hit on a qb for tackling a defender at his knees after he threw and interception to him? Do you even know what football is , since when can you get an illegal low hit on a tackle and especially against a qb whose tackling a defender who now has the ball !

    dirtdawg54- just hush young man grown folks taking you just sour bc your team won and did so on an unfair field . Of course fans are going to complain about that when they had never been to a SB before and when they finally make it their cheated out of a good game !

  41. Nofool,

    Worry about your steelers and what they’re doing that’s illegal. Seattle has a chance to repeat this year, Pissburgh won’t even make the playoffs.

  42. Or…instead of calling out the “haters” how about holding your team responsible for once when they screw up. Just like you act like they’re GOD when they do something good. Ped’s, DUI’s, most shady coach in sports, breaking the same rules twice, and all we ever hear are excuses or blaming the league!

  43. Reminds me of winning a Pop Warner football championship in 5th grade. As we celebrated the win with root beer and pizza, the losing team saw us and began taunting all of us calling us “cheaters”, etc.

    What a great feeling!

    #YourTearsAreDelicious
    #2014WorldChampionSeahawks

  44. and so goes the play by play…3rd and 9, Broncos’ Moreno 10 yards down field in the flat…and it’s Manning, under relentless pressure, again by Avril from left end….Manning, arm back, prepares to throw….now Avril, forcing thru Bronco blockers….LEAPS, hitting Manning’s elbow, at the last possible second….The ball’s tumbling in the air…downfield towards Moreno……uh-ohhhhh, it’s SMITH dropping coverage….running right past Moreno…. as if he’d been frozen in time….SMITH…. intercepts the pass…..It’s SMITH….he’s at the 40, the 50, the 35…..the 20….there’s not a Broncos player within 10 yards of him….SMITH – SCORES!!!!!!! And the demise of the Denver Broncos continues…. only minutes from the half, they’re down 22-0….

    cheat that – Hater’s!

  45. I wish people would listen. Pete is a world class cheater. Yes he won the Super Bowl. He has good players and coaches..but the cheater is Pete. Ask the parents of former usc players. Complete liar

  46. scmems07- Seahawks do NOT have the most players suspended that would be the WASHINGTON redskins.

    Including the short period where Seattle had a rash of suspensions , the Seahawks STILL DO NOT LEAD THE LEAGUE, they barely passed WAS and now aren’t even in top 3 . And havnt had a player suspended for peds for over a year !

    I won the lottery the other day ,I must win every time I play bc I won right ! Who cares if I play every day and only won $2 dollars from the sample size for that day I always win right !

    Problem was sample size , for a year they had a bunch of marginal players suspended , doesn’t mean they have more or less than anyone ! They don’t even lead the league in players suspended right now going all the way back to that time . It’s just sad that you don’t want to have any perspective !

  47. Under the new emphasis on defensive holding in preseason, how many penalties do the Hawks have? One on Tharold Simon….but the league later said that shouldn’t have been called so that makes ZERO…. So that is off the table boys!

    This no contact junk I think is why we see so many injury’s during that last few years…Urgh!

    By the way, we are still WORLD CHAMPS…Chumps!

  48. So did a player that was cut tell the leauge, this happend at the same time last year.
    for everyone bagging on the Seahawks, what are you going to say when its your team?

    Oh BTW the Seahawks won the Super Bowl, 43-8!

    What did your team Do?? LOSE!
    Say what you want, but if you get rolled by the Seahawks this year, just call the Seahawks cheaters if it makes you feel better because your team wasnt good enough to win.

    They keep score and dont give trophies to losers in the NFL.

  49. I’m sure Pete will cry himself and his rings as well as rose bowls to sleep over this. Jim Harbaugh meanwhile will be crying over failing to get the super bowl 3 separate times. Hahaha.

    Getting in a few more productive practices is absolutely gaining an advantage. The first few weeks are always sloppy but it is much worse with the new rules. This is a form of cheating whether you can understand that concept or not. Criticism based on valid points does not equate to “hating”

    Of course you will. Cheaters don’t care about sportsmanship. Cheaters only care about themselves.
    Seattle shows no class. OF course, they have none to show.

    Breaking practice rules, holding, PEDs. Yep, classy outfit…….NOT.

  52. That’s funny, because no one else does it, right? Like say when a certain Dallas LB blows up his knee, during a “no contact” drill, because there was contact?! Yep, definitely just Seattle.

    With the way the rules are written today, they HAVE to practice at full speed so that they can get the necessary reps in… when guys go at full speed, sometimes there will be contact.

    Another point, this rule is about player safety… it’s not there because teams were gaining an advantage. If they’re cheating, they’re only cheating their own longevity.

    BTW, who cares about 2 OTAs next year… I guarantee you that the team leaders will have everyone together for a players only workout… you just wait.

  53. “I find it would be much easier to actually like the Hawks if it wasn’t for their fans on here with their “holier than thou” attitude. Fair enough – but it’s not that easy to refrain from fighting fire with fire when every aspect of your team (and even being a fan of your team) is under attack in every single post that mentions the Hawks on this site. I know it’s a tiny percentage of actual fans, but they do scream the loudest, and it’s hard to just sit on your hands and say nothing back.

  54. allidoiswin55

    The Seahawks have not cheated what so ever!

    Yet Sherman and the Seahawks admit that they cheat and break the rules because they won’t get flagged for it all the time…..seriously, really is too easy.

  55. I really don’t know why, but whenever I see Coach Carrol I want to slap him in the back of the head so he’ll have to swallow that big was of gum or whatever it is that he’s always chomping on opened mouth. Then you have him always running onto the field which is a rule violation. The guy just acts like he’s above everybody. Drives me friggen insane.

  56. Peyton gets his butt kicked, illegal contact is re-emphasized AGAIN and the champs get fined for too much contact. Just give forehead a trophy NFL.

  57. For all the haters out there, I’m a Jets fan!! So I’m pretty miserable all the time!! But the truth is
    The Seattle Seahawks are the elite team in the NFL! They are the defending Champions! Have you watched them play at all in pre-season? I was never I big Russell Wilson fan!! But watching him progress from last year to this year?! In my opinion, He’s in the top ten QB’s in the league , if not in to top five! His play at QB is something to watch! Man, he can do it all! Without a top flight Receiving core! Again, I’m not a Hawk fan by any means!! But as a Football fan, and purest. They are an awesome team in all 3 phases of the game and a lot of fun to watch!! I never thought I would ever say this!!!!!! But Russell Wilson is going to be great!!! He’s well on his way!! Not bad for a third rounder?

    Report comment. Ted is a Pats fan hence the tolerance for,cheating. Simple things for simple people who approve of cheating ….it’s the new America…enjoy.

  59. If you can’t understand why this is cheating then you definitely don’t understand the game and clearly haven’t ever played it in any organized way. There’s a reason every football league on the planet has similar rules in place.

    I actually like Pete a lot and thought he was treated unfairly in Foxboro, but I’m disappointed that can’t seem to play by the same rules as everyone else.

  60. Would be nice if the league would give some examples of what was happening in practice that they deemed in violation of the rules. I believe that was the day that Thomas also had a hard hit on the sidelines (think it was Bates who ended up in a sling the next day?) along with the fight that broke out a couple plays later. Seems very likely that this is a fine over just a handful of plays where the players took things a little too far.

    This is also a player safety item under the CBA so it is mostly just a bunch of CYA because you see guys like Bates with arms in a sling the next day and the league is going to fine someone so that it can tell the judge in the next lawsuit that it took injuries seriously.

  61. Guess any team that has anyone involved with a fine should be labeled cheaters since that seems the general theme against the Seahawks for their training camp fine.

    Amazing…

  63. I can’t stand these practice rules. It’s professional football. The players need to suck it up or find another career. They are not supposed to be in this career for 20 years. They are paid according to that risk.

  64. These comments are ridiculous….probably most of you whiners have never even played a lick of football in your life, let alone were any good at it. Our Seahawks will prove it again this year….just wait for it…you’ll have more to time to fill the airwaves again with your nonsense, but your sniffling and whining will be drowned out by our 12th man nation! Enjoy your seasons, cheers everyone! 🙂

  65. The Players Union does what every Union does, limits opportunity to get a job or keep a job. Unions in general should be broken they just hurt their members from getting more money.

  66. So many commenters here are absolutely clueless. The reason that contact practices are limited is not to prevent teams from gaining a competitive advantage; rather, it something the player’s union negotiated for during in the most recent CBA. The Seahawks and Pete Carroll are not being fined for cheating- as representatives of the NFL, they are being fined for violating a contract between the NFL and the player’s union.

  67. It’s OK Seattle fans…just hope your team continues to cheat. It’s the only way to win right?

  72. Funny how there are comments on here about how NFL is going soft with limiting padded practice and limiting practices in general.

    Pete Carroll runs practice at a different speed than any team in the NFL. Some players get too physical and somehow the idiots start screaming “cheatting” Well I am sure Paul Allen will be on the bread lines after paying 200, 000 and Pete Carroll will be updating his resume looking for a new job.. Or not.

    Seattle Seahawks play football the way it was meant to be played and this forum the only way I can describe comments is filled with envy. Its great to be a 12, Go Hawks!

  73. Hey! If my Coach want our players to hit a little extra in practice, great! If we sign a murdering HOF Linebacker, fantastic! If we beat the living snot out the opposing QB after the whistle, nice! If we spy through a peephole at the other Teams practices, brilliant! If any of this gets my Purple People Eaters a Lombardi, COUNT ME IN!!!!!!

    Quit Cryin’!

  74. Niners rubbed off on the hawks in the west. Too bad. I guess some teams have to cheat to win. Steelers, Niners, Pats, Seahawks all have that in common now. Sad

  75. Look Hawk fans no one is saying you don’t have a great team or didn’t deserve the Ship or anything like that, but just play by the rules the rest of us are playing under and there won’t be a problem.

    I don’t necessarily agree with the rule either, but it’s a rule. Can’t understand how or why anyone would try to defend them here. Pete did the wrong thing this time plain and simple.

    Before the “cheating” comments come rolling in, it’s not cheating if you break a rule. It’s only cheating if you’re gaining an advantage. Hitting your own players too hard and fighting is not gaining an advantage.
    ———————————————————————–
    says who??? you mean when the hawks break a rule it is not cheating?? breaking ANY rule is cheating the system wiseguy.
    seattle is known for this and YOU know it!
    by the way there is an advantage or they wouldnt do it.
    more preseason contact practice is the advantage and as the article says, maybe that is why they look good in preseason!
    amazes me how much trash the hawk fans can lay on any other team (especially the 49ers) but cant take the heat on their own!

  79. Pete Carroll? Breaking the rules!? I don’t believe it. No wonder the team leads the league in PED suspensions. Gotta win somehow, eh Pete?

  80. No surprise that the Seaslugs under Pete Carroll would be violating a rule.

    Let the Karma payback for the years of cheating come back in a storm of payback!

    Another point, this rule is about player safety… it’s not there because teams were gaining an advantage.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    No. It was not about safety, it was about having to do less work. The NFLPA wanted a “victory” and this is what they chose to pursue. Less work in practice sounds good to players when it is the union vs. management. When it is player vs. player/team vs. team some players have realized that those practices were/are necessary for the team to get better.
  82. Can’t blame their “fans” for sticking up for them. 99% of them jumped on the bandwagon last year and are so stupid they think one Superbowl win is a DYNASTY! HaHaHaHaha
  83. Oh that’s right, he was indicted, then arrested a yr and a half ago.
    And the NFL did what about this Ted…..? I guess they felt there was nothing to it unlike spy gate…..right? Try again Teddy. You must be very comfortable with the Cheathawks with former Pats guy Pete the Cheat at the helm.
    Judging by peoples logic on here, I guess if I make a ton of noise in a library, I’m “cheating” because I broke a rule. That’s pretty much what people are insinuating. Clueless.
    Again, if a rule was broken AND is broken to gain an advantage, then that would be cheating. The clueless haters just tend to pounce on any sort of negative news without regard to how clueless they sound.
    pol thoin
  85. OK let’s clarify cheating.
    Did Merriweather just cheat when he hit high?
    Did Gordon cheat when he smoked marijuana?
    Did Ray Rice cheat when he decked his fiancee?
    See what I mean?
    They don’t cheat. They are PHYSICAL! Ask the Broncos.
    Go Hawks!
  86. And the NFL did what about this Ted…..?
    A former Pittsburgh Steelers team doctor was arrested today and accused in a 185-count indictment of conspiracy to distribute anabolic steroids, human growth hormone and painkillers. The indictment alleges Rydze distributed the steroids through March 2011. Federal prosecutors said that from February 2005 through October 2011, Rydze obtained more than 21,000 hydrocodone-acetaminophen, commonly known as Vicodin ES, by calling in more than 200 prescriptions to Pittsburgh-area pharmacies. Rydze served with the Steelers for 22 years.
    Just like the Torodal and HGH controversy, the NFL will do something about it, eventually. Meanwhile, LOL about your hypocricy, a steeler pot calling the kettle black.
  87. Seattle is the most physical team in the league and 300K is lint in Paul Allen’s pocket. They might get fined for this every year. Doesn’t bother me. Go Hawks!!!
  88. Let it go. They are the Champs and you can’t change that. You can play war and have all the reenactments you want, but they still won.
    So much hate is not healthy. Move on or they’ll beat you again.
    I really enjoy watching Seahawks fans respond so furiously to the “cheater” comments when so many of them rag on about how they were cheated out of a Super Bowl win against the Steelers.
    ——————————————–
    Amen, dude. And every time we Packer fans mention the Fail Mary, they tell us to get over it. Hypocrites.
  90. I think that their will alwayz be haters, I’m just curious on how they alwayz cheat???? I’ve been a diehard Seagals fan since I was born….. I can remember when they couldn’t give away tickets 2 the games to watch the Hawks play!!!! Smdh. ……. I jus think that everyone is hating! Haters come out n play! Furthermore don’t hate the player hate the game!!! No worries they’ll just have to win another super bowl 2 shut down the na sayers! And they will! They have been the under dogs 4 so long nobody wants to c em win!!!!! “We ain’t gotta cheat ya ta beat ya” don’t get it twisted!!!! They play hard and hard work pays off!!!!! Jus so u kno not jus a hawks fan “Whodat” n “C-boy’s” as far bacc as when Tony Dorsett played granted I could hardly walk bacc then I was still a fan……..
  91. What do you expect from Pete Carroll? He’s still got his hands dirty from his days at USC, so why should he clean up his act in the pros?
  92. I really enjoy watching Seahawks fans respond so furiously to the “cheater” comments when so many of them rag on about how they were cheated out of a Super Bowl win against the Steelers.
    Yes, practicing too rough is the same as a NFL ref admitting he cheated in giving the Steelers a Superbowl or a single call in a regular season game that the NFL later said was correct.
    We are better than Pittsburgh and better than Greenbay.
    That’s a fact.
  93. Success breeds haters…I hope we get more.I want to keep on winning. Think about it, every team that has success has true haters New England,Denver, San Francisco…franchises that have won alot…pure hatred for these teams…I want that kind of success.No one is above reproach especially all those people in the Midwest with the bible so far up there butt that they have justified being the murder capitol of the nation and there calling are football coach into question?not worried about a bunch of jokers/hacks/haters from you the Midwest think or from anywhere else. Just win and let all the others make excuses why they didn’t!
  94. Ray Rice’s illegal hands, fists, and boots to the head this offseason contact didn’t get as severe a punishment.
  95. As a Steelers fan, I’d love nothing more than to pay back Seahawks’ fans by whining about their team’s actual inability to follow the rules (as opposed to whining about imaginary cheating the way they do). But, being an adult football fan, I think it’s more productive to be concerned about some of the problematic issues created by the most recent CBA. Among other things, the new rules limiting contact in the off season aren’t necessarily in the best interest of the players or the league.
  96. 12s-only fans the NFL tried to make rules against.
    Best in NFL.
    Just like Wilson.
    Just like Harvin.
    Just like Sherman.
    Just like Lynch.
    Just like Thomas.
    Just like Baldwin.
    Just like Carroll.
    Just like Bennett and Avril.
  97. Well, who might be interested in badmouthing the World Champions.
    Denver fans…check
    Santa Clara fans…check
    New Orleans fans…check
    Carolina fans…check
    Redskins fans…check
    StL…AZ…Indy…Atlanta…
    Minor League teams:
    Minnesota…
  98. That’s what happens when you jack these kids up on PEDs during non-contact time. They just can’t help themselves. Lucky none of them chewed their tongue off.
  99. Was this from the “tackling clinic” video they produced? Just exactly when was that produced?
    Lol.. Conspiracy theorists do love this kinda thing, eh?
  100. Hey my fellow HAWK fans…don’t matter what we do. Damned if we do, damned if we don’t. If we were on da East Coast like say New York we wouldn’t be considered quote on quote “CHEATERS”. Hate if you want, at least we built are team unlike most teams just signing free agent after free agent….*coughesBRONCOScoughes!!!*
  101. The 2012th man, for all there lack of football knowledge does have a firm grasp on keyboard courage. They are the first to jump on Kaepernick for false allegations with absolutely no proof. Now they defend a scumbag cheater in Carroll saying that they gained no competitive advantage from this? An organization does not get fined $300,000 for nothing. How much did Kaepernick get fined?
    The only reassuring thing is that these “fans” will be gone in two years. The Sherman jerseys will go into the closet with the flat-brimmed Miami Heat hats.
    Attitude reflects leadership. All of the other garbage this team does is a result of the leadership methods of Pete. He would rather chomp gum on the sideline than lead a his team. It starts with Carroll.
  102. Needed some levity to close out a busy day, so came to PFT to get my daily dose of ‘Hawk-Hating Freaking Out.
    Needless to say, I was not disappointed. There is some classic foam-at-the-mouth hate here.
    Now, go get us a beer and refill the nuts.
  103. There’s always been a ton of Seahawks fans! it never mattered till now cause we had never won thats why it never mattered to you. Now you have a force to deal with and you dont like it!theres a legion!
  104. Dear Steelers fan. The Seahawks were the Steelers of the 2000s last year.tough running game great play-action tough defense. Thats the best thing I can say to you.
  105. Cheaters!! Cheaters!!
    What?? An NFL team does the same thing most of the other teams are doing …….but they are the only ones that gets caught, and everyone makes a big deal of it??
    Sounds familiar. But sorry Seahawks – you have to be good and kick every bodies tail for at least 10 years like the Pats before you really get all the miserable, jealous little trolls on here obsessing about you and your success. Maybe you have something to look forward to in 9 years. Pats fans love it.
  106. One year suspension for head coach, 8 games for assistant coach and 4 games for GM…oh that’s right that is only for the Saints where no proof of any injury was ever proven
  107. They made a little extra contact in some practice!
    You guys here are so bent out of shape and trying so hard to hate, it’s beyond annoying, it’s become humorous how silly you all look.
    If you knuckle daggers read the article, you will also see that “several” teams have done it. Also, it doesn’t account for the fighting, and teams that haven’t been caught bumping into each other in practice as well.
    Don’t be mad because our team plays physically and old fashioned. So what they hit some in practice. So what they push a little harder at the line. Put a hand on you to remind you its a man’s game, and they aren’t there to watch you score.
  108. This is not cheating. It’s not a big deal. Now onto the real issue. Quit whining about the 05 Superbowl Seahawks fan’s. You sound like a bunch of crying school girls.
  109. @realitycheckbaby Right, because the NFL would never cover up for their refs. They have too much integrity to do that.
  110. Look at all the butthurt from the crybabies that are afraid of those dang mean ole Seahawks cause they hit too hard. Cry us a river you bunch of pansies. Do any of you actually know what the infraction was? It was a fight between two players. BFD.
    Whaaaaaa, our team can’t beat the Seahawks so they must be cheating. Pull up your big girl panties and grow a pair. Maybe your team will be fraction as tough as the Seahawks.
  111. I wonder if all these self righteous posters are so rule abiding in their own lives?
    Maybe, stay on unemployment a few more months instead of actually looking for a job?
    Few packs of ciggies and lottery tickets with the state debit card?
    Drive without insurance? After a few beers?
    Doesn’t sound like any of you guys, does it?
  112. this is how football used to be played. there was better tackling then. Not a hawks fan at all but like the style of defense they play there. See ya at the Dome come playoff time.
  113. Howl and whine, accuse and obfuscate. Pass rules, fine us, flag us – whatever
    We still have the best football team in the league and we are going to be in your faces come playoff time.
    Go Hawks !
  115. I’m shocked, shocked to hear a classy guy like Pete Carroll would ever break the rules!
    What does this mean? Is it a sign of the Apocalypse? Oh no wait, Carroll has been cheating at anything he can for his entire football career. Carry on…..
  116. I’m really curious as to why you are all defining contact in practice as cheating, the only reason it’s not allowed is because it is a player safety issue.
    ———————–
    You answered your own question. It’s not allowed.
  118. Who was/were the sissy boy(s) that whined about having too many contact practices? If it meant my football team would be tougher, I would happily pay the fine. As for the safety issue, maybe all of the limitations on contact during practices this are why we see so many injuries during preseason games and the first month of the regular season, because the players are not in football shape.
  119. I don’t think people are “whining” about too many contact practices. I haven’t seen anybody even question that. The point people are making is that there is are rules about the progression of practices: when official groups can practice together; when the coaching staff can get involved; when they can engage in contact. These are rules the league and the players agreed t (CBA) and which the Seahawks have already been fined for violating. Your comment about gladly paying the fine is stupid. You don’t cheat and just accept fines as the cost of doing business. Because you won’t just keep paying fines, even as they get progressively bigger. The non-financial penalty means next season they lose two days of camp. There goes your theory that extra days make your team tougher or better equipped (the whole point of having every team follow the same schedule, so they ALL have the same time to focus on different aspects of the game) because now you have TAKEN AWAY days of practice. And the next time you’ll lose even more.
  120. “Patriots v Seattle in the Super Bowl. Count it”
    Ooooooo, you’re so smart! You can announce something AFTER it’s been decided. LOL You DO know the winner’s of last Sunday’s games will meet each other in the Super Bowl, right? And that you can check on the interwebs to see who the winners were?
