Julius Thomas thinks emphasis on defensive fouls could pump up his numbers

Thomas AP

Last year, Julius Thomas set the Broncos’ single-season record for receiving touchdowns by a tight end, with 12.  This year, he doesn’t have a specific goal to beat that.

Generally, however, he realizes that his numbers could be even better, thanks to the renewed emphasis on illegal contact and defensive holding.

Thomas addressed that and other topics during a recent visit with PFT Live.  The first subject?  Whether he thinks the NFL should outlaw Peyton Manning’s Rocky Top dance.

Thomas also identifies a guy on each side of the ball who could be due for a breakout year, like Thomas had a year ago.

They made the rule for manning. Of course his numbers will go up. Two hand touch

Just tell the golden boy what you want, he’ll get the rule “emphasized” for you.

I miss the old NFL :'(

Should be worried about a ring and not your numbers, which will decline regardless the moment Peyton retires/gets injured.

Thats right guys, the NFL makes all these rules around Manning. Have fun watching the Broncos win Super Bowls until Manning retires, thank you NFL!

    Go Broncos!

Manning has a losing record in the playoffs. Broncos haven’t won a Super Bowl since cheating with Capgate. Truth hurts.

  8. The Colts tanked the 2011 season, but Andrew Luck is a bust, and Jim Irsay is a druggie. The entire Colts organization and their fans should be ashamed. says: Aug 27, 2014 9:28 PM

“Our record-setting offense will be too much for the Seahawks.” -Broncos fans just before SB48

It could also be the case that some players happen to lose statistical production an inordinate number of times due to penalty. Some of the negotiation conversations are going to change as agents and teams disagree on how much unofficial penalty production should be given credit for. If the volume of penalties goes up then the number of those disagreement cases could go up, and some positions might also be arguing for more money to come at the expense of others if the pass/run ratio gets tilted.

Pretty pumped up show in general, and some good stuff from Vilma too!

This guy just said what every receiver is thinking

  12. thebirdofprey2 says: Aug 27, 2014 9:53 PM

He is speaking the truth on this issue, all other QBs and WRs will have their numbers inflated.

At what point do we start putting * on these stats because NFL handcuffed defenses for years.

  13. scw1993 says: Aug 27, 2014 9:58 PM

Seems like it’s a huge problem with megahead-led teams….the players care more about their personal numbers than a team win. 43 -8.

Actually caseyanthonymunoz tha Broncos got no competitive advantage from “cap gate”. So the truth that hurts is that you have been holding onto a belief that is wrong to make yourself feel better… I hope it works!

PEDs make your numbers go up as well

  16. kehav1 says: Aug 27, 2014 10:19 PM

without Peyton, julius thomas would be a regular tight end…

  17. ketch20too says: Aug 27, 2014 10:27 PM

Won’t have the weakest schedule in the NFL this year and they play the vicious D’s in the NFC West. We all saw what the “greatest offense in history” was able to do against a real NFL defense.

  18. ceehawkfan says: Aug 27, 2014 10:30 PM

Of course that’s what the NFL wants. It’s becoming a FANTASY GAME…not hardnosed football.

  19. doe22us says: Aug 27, 2014 10:31 PM

Ya think… so are all other pass catchers, but not all like the increased emphasis.

  20. jcmeyer10 says: Aug 27, 2014 10:34 PM

I could put up numbers with these rules.

To all of you who simply come on here to bash the broncos, I don’t know what your problem is. Chances are, most of you are seattle fans since the whole super bowl thing is being brought up. The seahawks won, so why are all of you mad? I don’t know if you are just scared or what, but settle down. Anyone who really dismisses the broncos is just ignorant and ignoring the truth, which is that denver is a true threat to any and every team in the nfl. And onto the playoffs, peyton still has a winning record in the playoffs, but he also has the most playoff losses of any player, so don’t get it twisted. At least peyton manning can make it to the playoffs unlike many sorry teams out there. And if you really watched manning, then you would know that many of those playoff losses were not his fault, but came at the expense of his teammates. I’m not saying that peyton didn’t make his fair share of mistakes, because he did, but most of these playoff losses were not a result of peyton himself. Just stop hating in this team. I’m not even a broncos fan, but I don’t get why all of you idiots come on here just to trash talk this team.
