Report: Lardarius Webb restructures deal

Lardarius Webb AP

Ravens cornerback Lardarius Webb hasn’t been able to help the team on the field this summer because of a back injury, but he has reportedly been able to help out with their salary cap.

Tom Pelissero of USA Today reports that Webb has agreed to restructure his deal with the Ravens by converting $4 million of his $7.5 million base salary into a signing bonus. That allows the Ravens to drop further under the cap now and spread out the cap hit over the three remaining years on his contract.

If there’s an immediate reason for the Ravens to want extra cap space, it could be to sign an extension with one of the team’s other players. Defensive tackle Haloti Ngata, wide receiver Torrey Smith and kicker Justin Tucker are a few of the candidates for a new deal and the Ravens could use their new cap space to reach a deal with one or more of those players.

That’s a concern for the front office. Webb’s top priority is getting healthy and back on the field to help an ailing cornerback corps that added Derek Cox to the mix on Tuesday.

    “The Wizard of $120,000,000″

Whose QB has accomplished a lot more than your $96MM QB.

Good one, doc. I’m sure you’ll continue to post that gem right up until you disappear for a month (again) in early January.

Sounds like a Torrey deal coming. And if not him, I’d say Jimmy Smith would be the next most likely candidate but they’ve got him through next year with the 5th year team option for 1st rounders.

Any deal for Ngata would likely reduce his already huge cap number and I can’t imagine they’d sink so much into a kicker who they can control for at least another year that they need additional space.

The alternative is they are working a trade for a veteran (like perhaps a healthy CB) and need some cap room to bring him in.

Flacco: 9-4 postseason record, 3 AFC championships, 1 SuperBowl title, 1 Superbowl MVP – $120M

    Dalton: 0-3 postseason record – $115M

    Who overpaid?

  8. flaccodelic says: Aug 27, 2014 2:45 PM

By the way, this is exactly what Flacco will be doing next year. Which will no doubt generate some criticism, for some reason.

    2013 AFC North Champions

Remind me who Andy Dalton KNOCKED OUT of playoff contention in 2013.

    Oh… yeah… the baltimore ravens.

    ENJOY.

Webb should restructure his deal… he’s been making a killing in the bank while not putting much time on the field. 2 ACL injuries and now a back problem…. I’m a big Webb fan, but the guy needs to get on the field. If he misses a lot of time this year, the Ravens’ should cut him.

You know starting from the last Bengal playoff win the Houston Oilers have as many playoff wins in that time span, and with the extension to Dalton, I don’t think they’ll be able to close the gap.

Not the titans mind you, but a franchise that no longer exists, and hasn’t existed since 1995.

Unlike some teams, the Ravens rarely restructure deals so I’d say something is in the works. My guess is a new contract for Torrey Smith and/or Justin Tucker. Jimmy Smith already had his 5th year option picked up by the team and is thus under contract for next year, not as big of a time issue there as with Torrey and Tucker.

both flacco AND dalton are overpaid

can we shut up about it now?

Keep framing those T-shirts, doc. I’ll be over here watching Super Bowl highlights.

This is just another Ozzie bust that the Ravens refuse to admit and cover it up. It’s all apart of that myth that Ozzie is some sort of genius.

Immature fans on these post, living vicariously thru their teams, thinking they are remotely connected to the organizations like the Bengals, Steelers, Browns and Ravens. You sound like little kids saying I’m better then you are! Grow up and enjoy the sport with constructive dialogue. I bet these quite a few of the players and coaches make in one year what most of you that post stupid ignorant pointless, mine is bigger, better, longer, then yours comments, in a lifetime.

Did you even watch the game? Dalton threw 4 pics. The difference that day was that bengals were able to run the ball a little bit and the Ravens couldn’t.

Its only funny when Steelers fans troll us and us them. Because these are two winning teams with a legit rivalry.

Cincy on the other hand has fewer championships than the DAYTON TRIANGLES of 1918. On second thought, maybe they should move to Dayton to “get that swagger back.”

FYI, the word fan is short for Fanatic. The word fanatic is defined by the Webster dictionary as “excessive enthusiasm and often intense uncritical devotion”. With a definition like that you should be able to understand why fans live vicariously thru their teams
