The Buffalo Bills have commenced the process of trimming the roster from 75 to 53.  To get there, the Bills got rid of one of their newest and oldest players.

Gone is quarterback Jordan Palmer, who signed with the Bills earlier this week.  Also gone is punter Brian Moorman, who spent 11-plus seasons with the team before being cut in 2012 and then re-signing with the Bills in 2013.

The Bills also have released linebacker Xavius Boyd, defensive tackle Landon Cohen, tight end Dominique Jones, cornerback Kamaal McIlwain, cornerback Sam Miller, fullback Evan Rodriguez, receiver Naaman Roosevelt, and center Jared Wheeler.

All teams must be at 53 teams by Saturday at 4:00 p.m. ET.

LOL re Jordan Palmer. I thought they would at least keep him around to prep for the Bears game in Week 1.

  2. deadlevelbest says: Aug 29, 2014 4:33 PM

Sad to see Moorman gone again, but he did not punt very well at all this preseason.

Palmer must have given the Bills the Bears playbook so they didn’t need him around anymore.

    Rest easy Mr. Cutler.

Landon Cohen was great during preseason. Such a shock that he was cut.

expanding to 53 teams will definitely mean an 18 game season.

So, if Palmer’s gone who’s gonna be the QB ?

  8. lks311 says: Aug 29, 2014 4:43 PM

I’m disappointed he will not be on the roster when the Bills play the Lions again in 6 weeks. I would have rested easy knowing he was just a stumble away from getting into the game.

Maybe Palmer respectfully declined to disclose inside information on the Bears’ offense.

Bringing in Jordan Palmer turned out as well as Matt Leinhart did last year.

  11. ddarlak says: Aug 29, 2014 4:45 PM

both guys made me puke last night so i feel a little better, don’t understand the Cohen cut, he was a beast

  12. papacrick says: Aug 29, 2014 4:46 PM

Shocking! I thought he looked good against the Lions last night minus the three picks otherwise his completion percentage was right in line with EJ Manuel’s

  13. bassplucker says: Aug 29, 2014 4:59 PM

It wouldn’t surprise me if Palmer has a gentleman’s agreement with the Bears. He keeps mum about their playbook, and they make him their first call if/when Cutler or Clausen goes down. He was extremely complimentary of the Bears organization on his way out so it wouldn’t surprise me.

Brian will be back, he’s like that penny that keeps turning up.

Cutting the punter moorman was a genius move by the Bills

the forward thinking analytic organization led by their boy wonder OC astutely realized that after 14 years of 2 run plays up the middle for a total of 3 yards followed by a 3rd down play play resulting in either a holding call, sack, fumble, or incomplete pass ( thereby stopping the clock) the Bills now have their defence on full alert whereby the 3rd down call call now prepares them for an interception, and at least mitigates the possibility of a long return

and thus no need for a punter and they can use the extra roster spot on an O lineman who cant block

    No EJ Manuel?

Now Cutler can quit his freaking crying

I take it you havent watched the Bills the past 43 years

  21. joetoronto says: Aug 29, 2014 5:43 PM

It’s too bad we’re going to end up with the Bills, it’s gonna be hard to get rid of the losing stench.

  22. largent80100 says: Aug 29, 2014 5:45 PM

No nepotism, no roster spot for you, Palmer.

  23. billslifer716 says: Aug 29, 2014 5:53 PM

You should already be used to that stench Joetoronto. With the Leafs and Raptors and Blue Jays in town, you won’t even notice a difference

  24. billsfan1 says: Aug 29, 2014 6:02 PM

You’re in Canada.. You should be used to the losing stench

The Boofs continue to be a source of great amusement for me….please go elsewhere and take Buffalo with you.

  26. restorativejusticeprogram says: Aug 29, 2014 6:21 PM

Kudos to Palmer for refusing to turn over the Bears’ playbook. Scummy of Bills for signing him for only that purpose.

  27. wallabear says: Aug 29, 2014 6:26 PM

Is that “legal” to sign a QB and then, several days later, cut them? lol Was that just a “verbal commitment” and not a contractual one?

  28. ecnc30 says: Aug 29, 2014 6:28 PM

Why don’t you guys in the admin building cut Marrone….lousy college coach and in way over his inflated head in the NFL

  29. restorativejusticeprogram says: Aug 29, 2014 8:50 PM

Buffalo needs to build on its strengths. Sadly, the only one that I can think of is that it is not Cleveland.

Race for the bottom here we go with Cleveland getting the #1 and #2 draft picks next year.

  30. revansrevenant says: Aug 29, 2014 9:02 PM

They should have cut the coaching staff.

As a side point: I was watching NESN Sports Today and one of the analysts said that EJ Manuel was the best quarterback in the AFC East not named Tom Brady. At first I was completely shocked, given that EJ is, while not exactly terrible, also not anything more than mediocre. Then I realized that the other two QB’s he’s being compared to are Geno Smith and Ryan Tannehill.

  31. bmore44 says: Aug 29, 2014 10:32 PM

    Palmer is better than EJ
