Brandon Meriweather loses appeal of suspension

Washington safety Brandon Meriweather is officially suspended for the first two games of the regular season.

Meriweather, who was suspended for his sixth violation of the rules against hitting defenseless opponents in the head, has lost his appeal of that suspension.

The appeal was heard by Ted Cottrell, who is hired jointly by the NFL and the NFL Players Association. Cottrell was an NFL linebacker and had a long career as a defensive coach, so he’s not opposed to tough, physical defensive football. In fact, Cottrell reduced another suspension for Meriweather last year, from two games to one. But Meriweather has crossed the line too many times.

Meriweather will be eligible to re-join Washington for Week Three.

Not only should he be suspended, he should have to go a few rounds with a pro boxer who should smack his head repeatedly. Once Meriweather says, “no more!” tell him that’s what NFL receivers want as well.

This guy is like a perennial drunk driver – ho wont stop till he causes a devastating injury to himself or someone else.

Must be hard putting “Washington” instead of Redskins you hack.

The guys lucky to still be in the league at that. He’s a headhunter!

Good. Now add on 2 more games for wasting the league office’s time.

The NFL is ruining the game. All these passing records are falling not because the QB’s of today are so much better, but because the rules have crated a game of pitch and catch. Put dresses on them already. This is disservice to every guy the “went over the middle” to make that third down conversion.

Should have been 4 games. It was 2 last time and he fooled them into reducing it.

Sixth violation and still only getting a two game suspension?

At some point shouldn’t you just start doubling the length of last suspension each time?

And at what point can the team add on a punishment for conduct detrimental to the team because he is absolutely hurting the team.

Meriweather will be guilty of an illegal hit again this season. Book it!

Of Course, let the hatin continue…What is this tackle or flag football! Hit a player high, suspension, hit him low, end his career. What do they want arm tackling, then defensive player has low stats and no tackles = Less Money

I like the way he plays the game is to soft now and QB’S are breaking records because defense’s can’t do anything anymore. Thats why I dont Buy season tickets. The whole game is flag after flag, and wait and see what 2014 is going to be like with the new rules!!!

The Washington Redskins will still win the games he has to sit out.

Should make him play without a helmet for four games.

If you look at the play he hit a moving target that lowered his head. I don’t see how this is an illegal hit.

Washington should pick up Champ Bailey as a safety.

not a skins fan but this was not an illegal hit. Shoulder to shoulder. Did not launch himself up. Shouldnt have even been called a penalty. NFL is becoming totally useless.
