Dolphins finally give up on running back Daniel Thomas

The Dolphins kept giving Daniel Thomas chances to be their lead running back, and he kept refusing to take them.

So today, they’re giving up on the former second-round pick, according to Andrew Abramson of the Palm Beach Post.

The Dolphins have also released return man Marcus Thigpen, tight end Kyle Miller and cornerback Kevin Fogg.

Thomas never gained 600 yards in a season, and never averaged more than 3.7 yards per carry.

With Knowshon Moreno coming on board this year, there was simply no room or time to wait for him to deliver on his potential.

It’s a real shame , because they traded up for him , too.
I think one of the main reasons Jeff Ireland was let go was Miami’s inability to draft good players in the second round.

The stench of Ireland is finally gone.

    It only took 3 years

Damien Williams – with an ‘e’ – is the name you need to remember from this point onward. Undrafted kid out of Oklahoma. He ran himself into a job.

Thomas has not done squat in three years…always ran soft for a big guy

He’s never had a prayer on that offense with that line. Won’t last long on waivers. Yo! Caldwell!

    garbage in = garbage out

Ireland’s picks have set back the Dolphins four years.

This guy was terrible and to think Ireland traded up in the second round to draft him.

Wish we would have kept Thigpen. If he goes to the patriots, he’ll be another Danny Woodhead.

Gave up two picks for the trade up for Thomas. Then in round 6, picked Charles Clay, and round 7, picked Jimmy Wilson. Should have just kept the picks.

No doubt Thigpen gets picked up. Wouldn’t be surprised to see him in New England.

The gross stench of Ireland & tuna are slowly leaving Davie.

If Thigpen plays for another team like he played on Thursday he will be out of a job, if Bill grabs him in NE he better shape up fast. Bill

The “stench” of Ireland isn’t gone yet. Hopefully MIA will continue to get rid of all of Ireland’s guys like Dion Jordan, Olivier Vernon, Ryan Tannehill, Matt Moore, Cameron Wake, Jared Odrick, Reshad Jones, Brent Grimes, Lamar Miller, Mike Wallace, Brian Hartline, Brandon Gibson, Charles Clay, Mike Pouncey, Koa Misi, Randy Starks, and Dannell Ellerbe. Then MIA will finally be free of Ireland and they can go back to the Randy Mueller days of a 1-15 record with 1st round draft picks like Ted Ginn and Jamar Fletcher.

Not that us fans are always right but the Miami fan base pegged this kid as a bust before the pick had even been turned in. He’s slow, runs upright, poor ball security and for a big guy he refused to run with power. To say that i’m finally glad to see his roster spot freed up for another back is an understatement.

fusstr8tedfinfan, you nailed it on the head.

Anyone who watched the college tapes of Thomas should have seen the same things. He runs too upright and almost never lowers his pads. His speed is pedestrian for a running back and there is little power upon most contact. No yards after contact except for falling forward …. fast …

Ireland must have been watching someone else …

Daniel Thomas is the poster child for Addition By Subtract. Every carry he never again makes for Miami is a chance for an actual play to happen.

Finally… that turkey stayed in the oven too long.
