Giants brush off Curtis Painter, keeping just two QBs

Zach Kerr, Curtis Painter AP

The Giants are working (slowly, painfully) on a new offense.

And they’re only going to keep two quarterbacks to run it.

According to NJ.com, quarterback Curtis Painter is among the early cuts for the Giants.

That leaves Ryan Nassib as Eli Manning’s only backup, and frankly, with the injury problems they had up front, a third quarterback would have been a luxury.

They’ve also released defensive tackle Kelcy Quarles, defensive back Bennett Jackson, linebacker Dan Fox, fullback John Conner, offensive lineman Jamaal Johnson-Webb, tight end Kellen Davis.

All of these guys will stay in the free agent market just in case we need them down the road

The Giants should “release” many of the coaches as swell.

painter played well enough in the preseason that he should find work quickly. theres plenty of worse qbs in the league serving as a back up currently

So in other words, they still have 0 quarterbacks.

Painter never should’ve been a Giant to begin with he always sucked and all having him on the team last year was take reps away from Nassib. Nassib clearly showed he was the better option this year, imagine how much further along he’d be it they hadn’t buried him under Carr and Painter last pre season. One guy had one foot in the grave and the other on a banana peel and the other was career scrub Curtis Painter and yet they had to have a backup QB battle between them, lmao.

Hopefully Jackson and Quarles can be stashed on the practice squad.

Good to see Nasib start to show why Giants drafted him.If he couldn’t beat out Painter,Reese would be gone.

Indy owes Curtis Painter a debt of gratitude. If he were not the worst QB in the last 30 years to start in the NFL the Colts wouldn’t have the next top tier QB Andrew Luck.

Good Luck CP and thanks for the gift.

The question is: Will the Giants win any games this year?

Nothing personal, but I was wondering how Painter is holding an NFL job and Tebow can’t get a look.

No-brainer. Nassib can play, and Painter stinks. I guarantee he will still be available if the Giants need him back at some point.

Painter has been stealing money for years! Finally, it caught up with him. Indy was too cheap to get a “real” backup QB and when Peyton Manning got hurt, it cost some people their jobs, including Bill Polian.

How Painter has lasted this long in the NFL is one of the greatest mysteries in sports history.

Looks like both the Jets and the Giants will join the Bills in the under .500 club this season. Not a happy thought!

Bring this guy out of retirement…..
Vince Young,… He can still play at a HIGH level,…. His NFL won/loss record right now is 31-19 as a starting quarterback… He has playoff experience … He’s a 2 time Pro-Bowler… He was voted 2006 NFL Rookie of the Year…..
The NFL is all about “WINS and LOSSES”…. and Vince can WIN…………
Bring in Vince Young “NOW”… Evaluate him, if he’s good enough sign him… You will have to guarantee his contract….

No quarterbacks and 2 rings in the last 8 years. That’s a pretty neat trick Buffalo!
