The Giants brought back Super Bowl hero Mario Manningham this offseason after he spent two injury-plagued seasons in San Francisco, but he couldn’t stay healthy enough to make the club.

According to multiple reports, the Giants will place Manningham on injured reserve on Saturday because of a calf injury he suffered in the team’s preseason finale. Per the same reports, kick returner Trindon Holliday, signed as a free agent this offseason, will be joining him after battling a hamstring injury for most of the summer.

Manningham was a 2008 third-round pick by the Giants and caught 160 passes for them over four year before moving on to the 49ers as a free agent. He had 51 catches in two years in California, but the injuries have derailed the career of a productive wideout.

Holliday returned two punts and two kickoffs for touchdowns with the Broncos over the last two seasons, but won’t be able to help the Giants in that area this season. The Giants may now turn to wide receiver Rueben Randle in the return game.
