Ravens part ways with 2013 fourth-rounder John Simon

The Ravens drafted 10 players in 2013, but only six of them will remain with the organization through Saturday’s cuts.

Aaron Wilson of the Baltimore Sun reports that the team has waived linebacker John Simon, who was their fourth-round pick last season. Offensive lineman Ryan Jensen was also on the cut list and the duo joins wide receiver Aaron Mellette and defensive back Marc Anthony as 2013 picks on the discard pile.

Simon played seven games as a rookie, recording four tackles, and had a sack in four preseason appearances this season. Jensen didn’t play in the regular season last year, but he and Simon both have practice squad eligibility remaining.

Wilson also reports that the Ravens have parted ways with cornerbacks Dominique Franks, Sammy Seamster and Tramain Jacobs. Franks’s departure is a good sign for the health of Lardairus Webb, Jimmy Smith and Asa Jackson as well as the chances of Derek Cox sticking with a team he joined earlier this week. Rookie defensive tackles A.J. Pataiali’i and Jamie Meder have also been cut.

Ah, the magic drafting of Ozzie, “in Ozzie we trust”…..turns out he makes plenty of draft mistakes just like every other GM.

Lol…how cute an Ozzie Newsome basher.

Sammy Seamster, a cornerback…was always best with the seam route.

    Or something like that.

    He’s not perfect.

    Just better than your guy.

He must’ve had a clean police record.

Fairly surprising. They touted his leadership at Ohio State and his gym rat qualities when he was drafted and he was solid on special teams coverage last year. He was fairly quiet through camp but his dominant 4th preseason performance (led team in tackles plus a sack and several QB pressures) I thought had given him the edge over McClellan and Orr. Good luck with wherever your career takes you John.

Jensen, Jacobs, Seamster, Pataiali’i, QB Wenning, DT Hopkins, WR Butler, RB Touissaint probably going to the practice squad if they all clear waivers which is probable.

Wasn’t that long ago that Aaron Mellette was pegged as the WR savior.

He just wasn’t athletic enough for the NFL

Who claimed Mellette was a wr savior for the raves? He had a few good catches in preseason last year. I’m a ravens fan and I never heard much talk about him
