Report: Bon Jovi out of Toronto group

Jovi Reuters

Good news, Bills fans.  Jon Bon Jovi won’t be buying the team.

Bad news, Bills fans.  The Toronto-based group is still planning to try to purchase the franchise.

According to the New York Post, Larry Tanenbaum and Edward Rogers have dumped Bon Jovi because Bon Jovi’s desire to control the team has limited the total bid that the trio can make.  The controlling owner must have 30 percent of the team; as the bids reportedly exceed $1 billion, Bon Jovi doesn’t have the cash to contribute to 30 percent of a competitive offer.

Now, Tannenbaum and Rogers, who would have owned 35 percent of a Bon Jovi-led franchise, will continue to chase the team by putting up more cash.  Their strong Toronto connections mean that the threat of relocation will continue until they make it clear that the team will never move.

It took him all of 3 games to realize that he wants no part of EJ. It will take the Bills 3 full years.

Maybe no one will buy the Bills. They’ll just sit there year after year, with the For Sale sign out front. Until some kid sprays graffiti over it. With the grass and weeds in the yard getting long and brown, the empty cans and broken bottles piling up. Bums will break a window in the back for a place to sleep in the rain, and one of them will fall asleep with a lit cigarette. Then local residents will form a committee to demand action…..

Still, it has to be Pegula’s team to lose.

  6. chrisk61 says: Aug 30, 2014 1:39 PM

bon jovi should have gone with john defilippis as guitarist and shea quinn as bass player back in the 80s.

  7. mackcarrington says: Aug 30, 2014 1:39 PM

It’s all moot. The new stadium will keep the Bills in Buffalo no matter who buys the team. Uuh…
you ARE building a new stadium… right?

  8. jakec4 says: Aug 30, 2014 1:40 PM

I’d be happy if I was a Bills fan. Most importantly you don’t have to be fans of the team owned by a celebrity like Bon Jovi. If he bought the Bills he might want to insist on “entertaining” poor Bills fans with his dreadful songs.

The New York Post is a pile of crap…. not unlike the Bills, Buffalo and their fans.

  13. elrock7 says: Aug 30, 2014 1:47 PM

I live in Toronto, but am not a Bills fan. I hope the teams stays in Buffalo long term.

The team is not Pegulas to lose. It will go to the highest bidder, and the Toronto bid could very well end up being the top bid.

The Wilson family CHOSE this method of sale. They could have avoided all this and just sold it privately to whoever they want to.

Bills fans have only the Wilson family to blame if the Bills end up leaving at some point.

  14. coachbeck says: Aug 30, 2014 1:49 PM

Please let Toronto win the bid.

And if anyone thinks pegula is bidding for “buffalo” is getting a snow job. He will move the team if a new stadium isn’t built. Anyone who invests over a billion dollars would

  15. 52lightsxout52 says: Aug 30, 2014 1:49 PM

Just award the team to Pegula already. His bid is just as competitive as the other potential suitors, and he’s the only one with deep connections to the area that gives him the ‘street cred’ needed to earn the approval of BillsNation…

If he wanted to be an owner, then why not be in the minority role then? You have to be at least a billionaire to get on that majority deal.

He could buy a few strip malls in NJ or something.

  21. RegisHawk says: Aug 30, 2014 1:59 PM

    Welcome to Toronto, Bills.

  22. dtr3e says: Aug 30, 2014 2:09 PM

I live in western NY and I’m a Jets fan, but I think it would be terrible for the team to move. Too many locals take pride in that team even though they haven’t made the play-offs since 1999. I wish the community could own them just like the Packers. Buffalo maybe a small market, but the surrounding area and their support of the team is HUUUGGE! I really billieve it would have a tremendous amount of support.

  23. Dogsweat says: Aug 30, 2014 2:09 PM

    Brooklyn Bills 2016.

  24. 27ringsandcounting says: Aug 30, 2014 2:21 PM

The team cannot be sold to someone who has intensions to move the team.

  25. djshnooks says: Aug 30, 2014 2:22 PM

I’ll say it again, it’s Terry Pegula’s team.

    The team is going nowhere.

  26. rabidsteelerfan says: Aug 30, 2014 2:22 PM

Fact: The Buffalo Bills are the ONLY New York team….the Jets and Giants play in New Joisey….how they get away with calling themselves “New York” is a travesty. The Bills belong in Buffalo….and I can’t stand Jon Von Blowme…..

  30. waldoampere says: Aug 30, 2014 2:27 PM

“how they get away with calling themselves “New York” is a travesty.”

Metlife Stadium is as close to Times Square and midtown as Yankee Stadium. Maybe closer.

  31. theycallmeyango says: Aug 30, 2014 2:31 PM

If they do move they better change the name, no? Bills only makes sense in Buffalo. How about either the Toronto T-birds or Brooklyn Bulldogs. I like Bulldogs personally bout time we have another team in the league with that name

  32. kgun80 says: Aug 30, 2014 2:31 PM

Like always all the classless posters on here root for a fan base to lose their team. Tannenbaum ( Toronto group)may have a ton financial backing but Pegula does as well. Not to mention the financial repercussions to deal with an empty stadium for a few seasons until the team can leave. Fighting lawsuits with New York State and politicians who have already threatened litigation as the Bills are the only team that plays in NewYork.
Look we know our team has sucked for over a decade. We know we have no titles and we know it snows a ton and people like to hate on Buffalo because it’s blue collar. But we love our teams and losing either of them would be a tragedy. The Bills.. Win lose or whatever are a big part of our city.

  34. rjkilla says: Aug 30, 2014 3:09 PM

@ rjkilla you are spot on. I’m watching FSU/OK ST and ABCs bottom line just reported that this story is indeed false and JBJ is still very much involved with the Toronto group…also, this game is awesome
