Report: Jets waiving Stephen Hill, confirm three other cuts

Wide receiver Stephen Hill’s tenure with the Jets appears to be coming to a close.

The club will be waiving Hill, their 2012 second-round pick, Brian Costello of the New York Post reported Saturday.

The Jets have yet to announce the move.

The 23-year-old Hill struggled to meet expectations in New York, catching 45 passes for 594 yards and four touchdowns in two seasons. He showed major promise right off the bat, catching two TDs in his NFL regular season debut. But sustained success has eluded the Georgia Tech product.

However, the 6-foot-4, 215-pound Hill seems tailor-made to be picked up by a club hoping a change of scenery is what he needs. Hill was clocked at 4.36 seconds in the 40-yard dash in the 2012 NFL Scouting Combine, and he has the size clubs crave in their receivers.

For the Jets, the pending release of Hill could be the final chapter in one of the club’s most notable personnel missteps in recent years. Two picks after the Jets selected Hill, the Bears took wideout Alshon Jeffery, who has become a Pro Bowler.

In other roster moves confirmed by the Jets on Saturday, the team released tailback Daryl Richardson, cornerback Johnny Patrick and linebaker A.J. Edds. Richardson, the ex-Ram, could be a candidate to land elsewhere as a backup.
