Seahawks cut roster down to 53 players

The Seattle Seahawks terminated the contracts of two veterans, placed one player on injured reserve and waived 20 players to reach their roster limit on Saturday.

The Indianapolis Colts announced earlier in the day they had traded cornerback Marcus Burley to the Seahawks in exchange for a sixth-round pick in 2015. That led Seattle to have to let go of 23 players to get to the maximum of 53 players by the 1 p.m. PT deadline.

Seattle terminated the contracts of cornerback Phillip Adams and offensive tackle Eric Winston. They placed defensive tackle D’Anthony Smith on injured reserve and waived tight end RaShaun Allen, cornerback Akeem Auguste, running back Demitrius Bronson, wide receiver Arceto Clark, quarterback B.J. Daniels, guard Caylin Hauptmann, tackle Nate Isles, center Patrick Lewis, wide receiver Chris Matthews, defensive end Benson Mayowa, safety Terrance Parks, tight end Morrell Presley, quarterback Terrelle Pryor, defensive tackle Andru Pulu, fullback Kiero Small, defensive tackle Jimmy Staten, safety Steven Terrell, linebacker Korey Toomer, wide receiver Bryan Walters and running back Spencer Ware.

Toomer, Ware, Staten and Small are all former Seattle draft picks.

  1. The only surprising move is releasing Walters who showed solid return skills (minus a fumble) while keeping Phil Bates but I guess Seattle loves his upside. Kiero Small and BJ Daniels better make it to our practice squad.

Other than some lost depth at d-line this Hawks roster is better at every other position group than the one that won the Super Bowl.

  2. BJ Daniels was cut. Hawks sucked all the G2 they could get out of him about the Niners so he was expendable

  3. Seahawks are reloaded for another run, hate to say it, but its true. They are stacked on both sides of the ball, huge gap between them and Arizona and San Fran.

Fun team to watch and they appear very hungry.

  4. 49ers ought to spend a little less time obsessing over the Seattle roster and little more time figuring out how to douse that Dumpster Fire smoldering in the suburbs of San Jose.

  5. Yea u know maybe the niners should pic up bj daniels!! like the seacheats did to get some info on the niners….now that would be funny right there…..
1-nfl has installed new holding penalties( thanks urs truly seattles dbs!!
2- new rule on cut blocks to urs truly cheating o line
3- new peds testing has to be witnessed now thanks to the seacheats….
    Wooooooooooow
    what a mess!!!
5 time superbowl champs! 49ers are a real dynasty!!!

  6. Roster cuts are in, time for the seahawks to go shopping in the Niner throw aways again.

I’ll bet the ‘hawks pick up RB Winston (a clone of Lynch), and OLB Thomas.

  7. 49er fan: “nfl has installed new holding penalties ( thanks urs truly seattles dbs!!”

Fun fact headline from the just-completed 2014 preseason: “Seahawks Only Team With No Defensive Holding Penalties This Preseason.”

    D’oh!

  8. To 49er fans, you do know the last Super Bowl was over 20 years ago? Did you witness it or living off your dad’s glory?

Start worrying about your shaky offensive line, 1 read QB and suspect secondary that can no longer be protected by a dominant front 7 that is missing 2 All Pro’s for at least 8 games.

  9. Get ready NFL. This team will be better than last year’s edition. Our offense will be explosive and our defense will still be our defense. Go Hawks!

  10. 9ers fans need to be concerned with this @zz kicking they are going to receive from us this year. I see a sweep in your future and hopefully after the 2nd beating, your coaches fate will be sealed. Go Hawks!

  11. Joey49er shut up you are making the true 9er fans like myself look bad. I would much rather have BJ Daniels then Blaine Gabbert.

As far as the cut blocks not being legal that is not entirely true. Cut blocks are still legal it’s the rolling afterwards that is no longer legal. So Seattle will continue to use cut blocks.

  12. Wasn’t too surpised.

They liked Toomer for his potential, but he’s been out for the last 2 seasons with health issues. Comes a point in time where you can’t waste the roster spot any more.

Mayowa couldn’t hold his own in the competition and didn’t do anything to distinguish himself in the last 2 preseason games. Still probably good enough to be poached or PSed.

  13. Many of these players you are so concerned about losing are going to end up on the practice squad today. This is just the first version of the final cutdown. More to come today and on through the week.

  14. Lol, I love how every Seahawk article includes comments from Seattle fans about SF. Obsessed with us much, little brother?

  15. LOL, I love how every Seahawk article includes comments from 49er trolls. Obsessed with us much, has-beens?

  16. Lol, I love how every Seahawk article includes comments from Seattle fans about SF. Obsessed with us much, little brother

Dude, you’re a Niners fan posting on a Hawk cut down thread about us being obsessed with your team…

Even you can appreciate the hypocrisy, right?

  17. If you’ve got to quote what your team did 2 decades ago, you’re not in touch with what has happened with your team for 20 years.

Championship game, every game. We all we got, we all we need. Go ahead nat’l media, doubt us again, just like you did last year….Manning, blah, blah, blah…….

    GO HAWKS!
